Californians faced with double digit unemployment, higher taxes and runaway government spending begin to stage protests with the help of local radio shows (KFI). This sets the stage for a battle at the voting booths, prop 1A, 1B and many more tax propositions. Devastated small business owners and employees face off against the powerful teacher, state employee, prison guard, etc. unions
Facing almost certain defeat, Arnold and company, threaten massive cuts to education and basic services.
California is the epitomy and a microcosm of the financial mess all of us are in. As our govts have grown, our societies have become dependent on the services they offer, no matter how screwed up some of those services might be. The cost of these services, when you factor in the thievery taking place, is more than we can bear. The problem is, the people don’t want to give up the services, but they don’t want to pay for them either. We only have two choices – shrink the govt and get rid of services, or pay more taxes.
