Although I HATE letterman, and I think his ‘joke’ was nothing more than political bashing of a conservative family, I disagree with the idea of having him fired, for a few reasons:
First, Imus got fired for the ‘knappy-headed ho’ comment, and never should have been fired in the first place. It’s called comedy. It shook the pillars of free-speech on the radio, making everyone wonder whether or not you had to stifle your own thoughts. Clear violation of first amendment rights.
Second, In calling for letterman to be fired, have we stooped to the level of libs, by attacking free speech as well?
Now, I do think he was an ass for going after bristol/willow in the first place, and I did contact 6 of his advertizers expressing dismay and going after his disregard for public decency (you just don’t go after children, it’s bad form) but I don’t think we should seek his termination, if only for the support of freedom of speech, not for letterman.
Think for a bit. If letterman gets fired, that sets a dangerous precedent in this country, where ANYONE can get fired for saying something off-colour. It’s bad enough it happened to Imus, we shouldn’t continue opening the lid of Pandora’s box, lest we find something we don’t want to.

Agreed, hit them in the pocketbook, no ad revenue equals no more show. Don’t take away the right to say it, just make it cost too much.

Imus was fired because he offended blacks…Letterman “only” offended a white Republican.
The real test will be in a few years to see if any comedian will go after Obama’s daughters The One is still in the White House.
IMO if Obama had a teenage daughter and someone made a similar joke about her, there would be multiple firings…
