June 18 (Bloomberg) — Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he has ordered the U.S. military to take defensive measures should North Korea attempt to fire a ballistic missile toward Hawaii.

“I think we are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect American territory,” Gates told reporters at the Pentagon today.

It never should have come to this. The world has pussyfooting around this little lunatic for years.I remember Madeline Albright going over there when clinton was “king”, and she was grinning from ear to ear.
Bush named the Axis of Evil. It was Iraq (our soldiers took care them), Iran and North Korea. Look at N. Korea and Iran today. I hope history looks at him kindly. BECAUSE HE WAS RIGHT!!!!

It has been stated that NK could not hit Hawaii (as they are about 500 miles short) and that there is a 90% chance of intercepting the ICBM. The thing to worry about this is if NK would do a mid air burst, this would result in an emp.

California is about 2300-2500 miles from Hawaii, and from what I’ve read, doesn’t seem like it would not effect California. The only good thing it seems about a mid air burst, is that there wouldn’t be any fallout, if you can find anything good about all of this.

So will Biden be right when he said that Obama will be tested within the first six months? This is a test Obama can not fail. This time, he has got to depend upon the suggestions of the military, the more experienced, rather than his Chicago “buddy” friends in his administration. Our country could be attacked on our own soil. Obama’s own “home state” (note the quotes) is at risk. Lives could be at risk.

The question is, do we “trust” Obama to do the right thing, and the best thing for this country, if the choice must be made?

You assume that the missile would have a nuclear warhead. At maximum range, the Taepodong-2 is estimated to have a payload capacity of less than 500 kg (1,100 lbs). (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taepodong-2).

The test weapons that N. Korea has fired (one fizzled) are believed to be Uranium 235 implosion types modeled after the first generation Pakistani weapons based on technology released by Kahn.

The U-235 warhead is significantly heavier than a plutonium design and can be expected to weigh somewhere in the area of 2000+ pounds. OK for aircraft but not for long range missiles.

Also, the step of going from a test warhead to one successfully integrated with a missile as a weapon system is a pretty big one. I seriously doubt the N. Koreans are anywhere close to that point.

  3. Don’t worry O will order Gates to stand down and we will let them fly their missile as they wish.

I’m sure Hawaii would really like to have a nice laser defense system (ABL) which they just cut funding to…..

I just heard from a friend in Hawaii his remarks
“One thing that can happen is the Hawaii Governor , Linda Lingle (R) can call out and activate the Hawaii National Guard
    Both Army and Air
She does not need DC’s permission to do this . Gov. Palin can do this too .

THIS would be a very strong message to both our country and the world

IF these two Republican leaders have the grit to lead in this way .

She should do this soon , right away
I’m writing her today with that request”

maybe we should support him in this effort

here’s another angle to look at. does anyone think that n korea would really send missles to the u.s regardless of obongo being in office. we would still nock the shit out of them. what if this is the “crisis” that we all know of and it was set up to make obongo look like he has diverted such crisis. ahh hail obongo for his courage and leadership.

    Wasn’t it a cease fire?
My father was a disabled combat veteran and it had an effect on me. I do not forgive those proxy comi bastards. they re-opened the war. Ya - put hillary in as a threat, how much unverifiable dismantiling money was you and bill (dick) responsible for. NC is just sucking on the same tit.,

Sadly most governors don`t have the stones to even consider the Guard as their states own forces as they should be. Every president thinks he owns the Guard and gets away with it, the guard should stay in their respective states and defend them and them alone against any aggressor be it foreign or domestic. Kimdongone is playing more stupid games and as long as the ragheads don`t get the BOMB let him act tough.

  9. I have been thinking about this for a while and have come to the conclusion that this act of aggression may the answer to show the people that the usurper in office is the wrong person for the job. The way this idiot is handling our enemies will come to bite him two fold (as you can see now with NK/DPRK).

I would hate to think that the usurpur would allow a nuke to go off in this country,as a means for an ULTIMATE power grab.We would be the ones to suffer, not those that inflicted the damage.Full scale gun confiscation, positive id,iris scan, the works.
