While he states that only the Governor has the "authority to act in an emergency", the Lieutenant Governor has the authority in the Governor's absence. The article notes that Jake Knotts is an ally of Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer, who is running for Governor when Sanford's term is up. Bauer talks the conservative talk, but he doesn't always walk the walk, and I get the impression that he's in it for himself, not for the good of the people. I find it interesting that Knotts (a RINO, and a Sanford critic, which, in my book, makes him a scumbag) brought the issue to public attention. And if the quotes in the article are accurate, then Knotts sounds like a whiny little baby. Apparently, State Senator Jake Knotts doesn’t even know his own state’s Constitution.
