Pentagon Laughs Off North Korean Missile Threat

FOX News:

The isolated regime made the threat as a U.S. destroyer shadows a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.

The Pentagon shrugged off a threat from North Korea Wednesday to wipe the United States off the map.

“I don’t even know how to respond to that. It’s silliness,” said Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell.”For what and with what?”

But even as the spokesman discounted the threat from the communist nation, which reportedly may fire a Taepodong-2 toward Hawaii in early July, he defended Defense Secretary Robert Gate’s decision to move the THAAD system to Hawaii along with the massive SBX radar system.

“I don’t think he would have deployed that THAAD if he didn’t think there was a reason to do so,” he said.

Tensions have been high since North Korea walked away from nuclear disarmament talks and warned it would fire a long-range missile.

U.S. officials have said it would take at least three to five years for North Korea to pose a real threat to the U.S. west coast.

But a A senior defense official told FOX News earlier Wednesday that the “Tapeodong 2 potentially has the range to reach Hawaii.” He said also he was “very confident” these deployed missile defenses have the capability to take out any missile the North may launch.

The isolated regime made the threat as a U.S. destroyer shadows a North Korean ship suspected of transporting illicit weapons to the military dictatorship in Myanmar in what could be the first test of U.N. sanctions passed to punish the nation for an underground nuclear test last month.

The Kang Nam left the North Korean port of Nampo a week ago with the USS John S. McCain close behind. As the Kang Nam moves South, the McCain has been replaced by the USS McCampbell, which took over monitoring on Tuesday.

The new U.N. Security Council resolution requires member states to seek permission to inspect suspicious cargo. North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.

“If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will … wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all,” the official Korean Central News Agency said.

The warning came on the eve of the 59th anniversary of the start of the three-year Korean War, which ended in a truce in 1953, not a peace treaty, leaving the peninsula officially in a state of war.

The U.S. has 28,500 troops in South Korea to protect against an outbreak of hostilities.

It will take 3-5 years before they pose a serious threat to the west coast, so till they figure it out we will sit on our ass and blame Bush  :gun:

    • IRONMIKE

Maybe if they took out LA during the Oscars I could forgive them. Who knows BHO might even be in attendance.

  • RIchard Quinn

In 3-5 hours we could bomb these jerks back to the stone age. Problem is, to quote give ‘em hell Harry, Mr. O and court “don’t have enough sense to pound sand in a rat hole”

“U.S. officials have said it would take at least three to five years for North Korea to pose a real threat to the U.S. west coast”.

    Oh good. Let’s wait.
It makes me sick to think that Gen Douglas MacArthur himself with an international army was in North Korea and we could not liberate the place.

    • RIchard Quinn

I don’t think the UN and give ‘em hell Harry at the time had the stomach for a possible war with Red China. Might have been interesting history by now if they had.

If we had a REAL leader, we’d remind NK that we could turn their entire country into a parking lot within minutes. So go ahead. Bluff called.

    • vivi libero o muori

      another analogy;

NK is like a chihuahua barking at a pit bull.
they can bark and bark, and maybe even bite our ankle, but when it comes down to it, Mr. Miyagi said it best…

      “SQUISH…..LIKE GRAPE…”

which is the chihuahua now with this administration in our office?

ATB, regardless whether OB is the pres, our armed forces made a pledge to our CONSTITUTION…. NOT to our prez. so yeah. NK….. go ahead. we will flatten u like a balloon the day after the Macy’s day parade….

NK threatening us is like Perez Hilton calling Will.i.am a faggot…Unfortunately for NK, they’ll get more than a punch in the face. Why would a country the size of Idaho threaten the most powerful country in the world??????

Kim Jong Ill is about to die, and he wants to see his plan come to fruition, regardless of what it’ll do to his populace….

    • http://twitter.com/ArchInfidel ArchInfidel

Vivo while our armed forces make an oath to the constitution they cannot go into battle on their own!

You really think Oscrewup has the balls to fight a war? While we have the potential to wipe any nation off the face of the earth there is no way anything happens in the next 4 years!

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

vivi, I understand all to well about the pledge the armed forces made to the Constitution, I made it myself! and have been fighting overseas since the end of 2003, so don’t tell me our Armed Forces will go over there and squash the DPRK like an ant because that is the naive explanation. The Armed Forces follow a thing called a chain of command and who do YOU think is at the top of that chain of command? I will give you a hint, he is a usurper with big ears. It is the usurper currently that gives the orders to the armed forces, not the Constitution and if this usurpers policies and lack of leadership reflect weakness, then our military will be viewed as weak. I know too well how capable our military is, but when you insert political correctness and leadership that only looks out for their own careers and could give a damn about the Marine or Soldier, then how effective has our military really become? Dont preach to me about our military.

“It makes me sick to think that Gen Douglas MacArthur himself with an international army was in North Korea and we could not liberate the place.”

He did until China forced him back to South Korea, and MacArthur wanted to fight the Chinese but President Truman refused over concerns of the war ballooning into a nuclear confrontation with Russia.

    • vivi libero o muori

Truman knew that we could win the battle, but create and lose a completely new war. Winning doesn’t mean shit when the Nuclear clock strikes midnight…

When it comes to a worldwide Nuclear war, patrick swayze said it best it “roadhouse”…

      -”nobody ever wins a fight”

not when nukes are involved. That’s why we dropped 2, and stopped. Hopefully never to be done again. The 2 we dropped were necessary, as they prevented hundreds of thousands of deaths on both sides, but Nuclear weapons are the Pandora Box of our time…. Nobody wants to cause nor receive that kind of damage…

    • vivi libero o muori

ummm… lemme reiterate… Nobody but islamic jihadists want to detonate nuclear weapons….

Nukes to Hadjis are like the lottery to welfare families….

  • Lock and Load

Everyone is looking at this from the perspective of an attack launched from NK; what if it is launched from an anonymous freighter off the US coast :?: There would be no warning, or time to get to cover, as it would hit us completely unexpected. Then add this to the mix… what if it is not a conventional nuclear attack, but instead, an EMP attack, which would detonate at great height over the US but create an EMP effect that would wipe out ANYTHING powered by electricity. See the series of videos at Pajamas here http://www.pjtv.com/video/Specials/EMP%3A_The_Very_Real_Threat_of_Electromagnetic_PulsePart_1_of_3%3A_EMP_101/2056/;jsessionid=abc_ajL2bvk0c4mdgzvis
which talks about the possibility of such an EMP attack. Unfortunately, if the scenario is possible, L’il Kimmy could indeed wipe the US off the map, with as little as one or two warheads, and perhaps nobody would even be sure who did it :!:  :???:

  • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

this is an issue that needs to be dealt with now, unlike the previous administrations that did nothing, this one has to do something besides laugh at the situation. The idiot in office and his cronies are merely fanning the flames and will make DPRK’s resolve all the more! This can be an opportunity to prevent a war and the idiot in chief (aka USURPER) is as always doing nothing except saying naughty things because his words mean so much. Tell that to the boys and girls that go over to the ROK to fight a war that really could have been averted.

    OK.

When the missle finally launches, if it does, America, (Not Obama) will go apeshit. Of Course we’ll knock it outta the sky, regardless of what Obama wishes would happen… IF and only IF NK is stupid enough to attack us, we will throw the retard (OBAMA) aside and deal with the world as we should. We have been the Cops of the world for the past 100 years, and have fought for freedom for so long that the media has forgotten….. so fuck’em

    • vivi libero o muori

I’d pay money to see Olberman strapped to an Oak tree, with 13 knots, and a strangely curious look upon his face as the “FLYOVER” Americans look at what Italian Grandma’s did to Mussolini at that gas station…then look back at him….with a sense of…how do u say, “LIVE FREE OR DIE”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

yeah, I am not gonna hold my breath vivi….America’s sheeple are going to throw ofuckhead to the side and take care of the DPRK and the world. ok.

While this announcement is pretty silly I do not like our top military leaders saying publicly that it is silly. The reason is no matter how silly the threat, it is still a threat and should be treated seriously.

Smaller groups have proven that small rubber boats with bombs can put a navy destroyer out of commission. A truck packed with explosives can take out a barracks. Or a passenger jet can take out some buildings. All from a very small group.

North Korea is not small, it is much more organized, has a lot more firepower, and has the will to cause a lot of destruction. Probably can not wipe the US off the map put they can do a lot of damage if they have to and much more damage to our allies in South Korea and Japan.

North Korea knows that any major attack will mean they will cease to exist but a good majority of that country never hears any opinion other than the governments which means a good portion of that population could believe all their woes are caused by the US. They could be fine committing a major attack even if they die as long as they strike a deep blow to their enemies.

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

well said Jeff. All the ROK will be is a speed bump…this is something that needs to be averted because if people cannot swallow the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they sure as hell are not going to be able to swallow another Korean War, especially with the MSM and the current administration.

This is an easy no brainer for a REAL LEADER. Tell that chipmunk and his UN enablers (China and Russia), that “any missle launched even in the direction of the US or any of its Allies will be considered an act of war and that we will retaliate in kind regardless if their missile hits its target or not”

This will get the attention of the UN and it will put notice to China and Russia that they better get their little mutt back on its leash cuz we are not in a fuck-around mood!!!

    • GRIZZ

That was pithy.I like it.

 YEP, i say we get it ON, but no leadership here, obambi is a weakling

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

the usurper is the problem…he is viewed as weak which is why the anti american countries are going crazy now…taking advantage, testing nukes out…making threats. This usurper will do nothing and they know it. Dont get me wrong, I agree with you 100%, but the problem is the usurper and nothing else.

This is what we should be looking at…
Kim Jong Mentally Ill is in very poor Health. And he just might want to go out standing up to the United States, to prove to his son & his people he could do it.
A wounded Badger is more dangerous than a Healthy one. So we should not take this crazy bastard lightly. :gun:

    • http://hyperinflation-watch.blogspot.com/ ZenDraken

Agreed. It is inevitable that the Nork regime will collapse of it’s own internal screwed-upness. All we have to do is hold the line and wait. The question is: will the regime disintegrate peacefully or will it try to drag everyone else down with them? I just wonder if Kim is sane enough to realize that his son will not survive a second Korean war.

Also, If they go down shooting, we cannot save Seoul from devastation. It’s a mess no matter what we do, but we can “hope” they go down without lashing out. Again, we need to be prepared, hold the line, and wait.
