No surprise here. I would be surprised if one did not find that sort of thing in Berkeley, CA. It’s a private school, so there’s not much anyone can do about it anyway. I suspect that the influence is most likely the parents. There are, after all, a lot of Communists in the Bay Area. Anarchists too.

I do not, for the life of me, understand why anarchists would use the Communist symbol. Back in the day after the Soviet Union got started, the Communists were rounding up the anarchists and either shooting them or sending them to the gulags. There is, after all, a history of this that is documented. So, are these young anarchists so stupid they should get the Darwin Award?
