What You May Not Know About Speaker Pelosi’s (Waxman’s) National Energy Tax

HouseRepublicanLeader
John Boehner:

H/T JayMS

Washington, Jun 26 – Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax is going to raise electricity prices, increase gasoline prices, and ship American jobs overseas to countries like China and India. This, we know.

It would be a bureaucratic nightmare overseen by a confusing web of government agencies that would take and redistribute trillions of dollars from family budgets and workers payrolls. This, we also know. Even Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson (D-MN) admitted in the Washington Post this morning that: “The truth is, nobody knows for sure how this is going to work.” How encouraging.

But what don’t we know? Here are some facts you may not know about Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax:

Homebuyers Beware. Trying to save up for a new home? You may have to save up a little longer for your purchase. The Democrats’ bill would dramatically increase new home costs by mandating California’s expensive new building codes for the entire nation. Immediately upon enactment, the Democrats’ bill would demand a 30 percent increase in energy efficiency for new construction. A couple of years later, the Democrats’ bill would require an additional 50 percent improvement. These numbers were chosen with no concern for cost to consumers or feasibility in implementation.

Homebuilders Beware. The Democrats’ bill imposes new mandatory regulations and civil penalties for homebuilders. If your state refuses to accept the stringent and costly California building codes, the federal government may assess penalties. And don’t get too comfortable with the new mandatory regulations because the Democrats’ bill allows for “consensus-based” codes to supplant those outlined in the bill. So, as soon as you’ve invested your hard-earned money to comply with the bill’s mandates, the rug could get pulled from underneath you. Translation? You’ll pony up more and more money.

Home Sellers Beware. Having a hard time selling your home? Here’s one more hurdle to jump: all homes sales are conditioned upon an energy audit and a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program for your home that’s outlined in the Democrats’ bill. And if you thought you could improve your property with a fresh coat of paint and some granite counters? Think again! Now your home will be subjected to a new energy rating assessment and energy labeling program that will penalize you for older windows, original fixtures, and dated appliances. So the Democrats’ bill would bring down the value of your home!

New Lights No Matter the Cost. As early as 2012, the Democrats’ bill eliminates all existing lighting technology used in many outdoor lighting fleets (parking lots, stadiums, secured facilities like power plants and factories). Just as an example, switching to the mandated technology in the bill will cost one small utility about $30 million in annual revenue. So you now have to comply with the new mandates for new lighting? Hold the phone. It is not clear that a feasible alternative technology is available for every existing lighting application – regardless of cost – which could force some businesses to close.

The consequences of Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax for families and small businesses are real. It will drive up energy costs, send millions of jobs to countries like China and India, and place an especially heavy burden on rural America. There is a better way. House Republicans have proposed the American Energy Act, legislation that represents the fastest route to a cleaner environment, lower energy costs, and more American jobs. The legislation would:

* Increase environmentally-safe energy production on remote lands and far off our shores;
* Promote the use of alternative fuels that will reduce carbon emissions, such as nuclear, clean-coal, and renewable energy technologies; and
* Encourage increased efficiencies and cutting edge technologies to maximize America’s energy potential.

Today’s vote on Speaker Pelosi’s ill-advised national energy tax will have consequences for every American. It is a bad deal for America. And the American people will remember how their Members of Congress vote.

    Well……

I would hedge my bet, that just as EPA standards drove many Industries such as Steel overseas so will this scam of Cap & Trade. Areas that rely on these industries will become blighted just as the Steel Towns. If you live in an area that relies on Coal for electricity plan on lowering your living standartds. If you have business vehicles plan on taking in the shorts for fuel or close your doors. If you are a farmer your live stock will be taxed for farting…etc…etc…etc.

As a consumer feel the pain of Obama’s version of trickle down economics, the pain of paying more for everything required to sustain your way of life.

What these treasonous bastards are accomplishing is the destruction what little brick and mortar we have left in this country.

And while the traitors in DC pass all these feel good bills that penalize fellow Americans, China and many other countries will continue doing business as usual blowing black soot from their smoke stacks, manufacture goods with slave labor and suck up all the industries our Government has decided to disgard.

JMO……….Some folks with deep pockets paid a lot of money to bring this country to this point, and they will make even more in profits with the Green Technology Industry.

    Welcome to Hope and Change.

Why the hell is Michael Jackson still saturating the news feeds?! I don’t care about that pervert. All he is and the people like him are over paid entertainers…Are they just showing this so we can’t see what else is going on in the world, or is it just to give the people within hollywood validation in their meaningless lives?

    • Johnny Doe

      Both.

    • Paslode

Obama needed a distraction to divert attention from this bill, he needed another crisis like worked for all his other ramrod bills. So Rahm contacted Jacko’s MD who is a avid Obama supporter and the fix was in.

At a set time Jacko’s MD slips Jacko a Mickey, Jacko cashes out and grabs all the attention.

Never let a crisis go to waste….and if you need a crisis make one.

      Tinfoil off.

    Dear John,

Republican proposals include “Promote the use of alternative fuels that will reduce carbon emissions”

That they even use the phrase “carbon emissions” just goes to show that the GOP is a party of losers and they have ceded any and all debate.

    The USA is SOOOOOOO fucked.

    • Scoot

I agree with you JDN. All of these lifetime politicians will never have to conform to these rules and regulations, and it showed by all of them laughing and joking with each other during the vote.

I’m reading Glenn’s book “Common Sense”, and I can’t remember who said this, but it’s in the effect of lawmakers must be willing to put themselves in a position to encounter the same as any of their constituents from a bill they have passed.

All politicians are set for life with a killer pension and killer healthcare, not only that, but they are mostly lawyers and have money shooting out their asses. They all could give a rat’s ass about what they are doing to the citizens of the USA, republicans and democrats alike.

This country needs a military coup of Washington…pronto. This is the only way to save our country from these pricks turning it into Nazi Germany.

I about to wonder if ANYONE has any guts at all to do what is right.

All the people here say is “KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY”. WOW.

There are no Patriots here to compare to the Founding Fahers…..I have learned that over the last few months.

As someone pointed out on the other article, BEING ACTIVE didn’t do shit. No One pays attention to words. They know we won’t MARCH, RIOT, BE POWERFUL, etc.

THE LEFT HAS INTIMIDATED ITS WAY TO POWER…WE ARE PUSSIES WHO JUST WHINE.

    • Johnny Doe

Calm down and get a grip. If I didn’t know you’re just an inebriated loudmouth I’d think you were a plant. Knock off your bullshit. It’s getting old. Fast. Shut your mouth, quit your pissing and moaning, and if you don’t like what you see here feel free to move along. You don’t have the slightest idea what you’re talking about.

    • http://patdollard.com Average Joe

      damn John Doe,
My country is dying because of the Democrats. My Business and INDUSTRY will be dead in 6 months.

      Enough is Enough!!!!

    • Johnny Doe

Look, I hear you. We’re with you. It’s not just the Democrats. We are in deep shit. We all know that. Insulting folks around here will get you nowhere. Fast.

This is a very serious time. This is not the time for rashness or hot tempers. If we mean to succeed, it will take everything that all of us can give, and then some. We are not playing games here.

If you want to be part of the solution, and not part of the problem, exercise some discipline. If you are as dedicated as I think you are, we want you with us. Whether you know it or not, you’re in good company. The best. Don’t blow it.

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

Average, I understand your frustration…I too am frustrated, but in order to accomplish taking our Country back and securing our kids futures again…it will take discipline, courage, and most of all the commitment to do the right thing when everyone thinks your wrong. There is no need to take out your frustration on all of us, we are in this boat with you. Don’t burn the bridge you need to cross or you will be all alone. There are alot of people here that are TRUE patriots and Constitutionalist. The time to act is now, Saturday, go to the Tea Party Website, and attend the protests! That is action, action that will speak louder than words! and during this time, contact your Senator and tell them to overturn this horrendous Anti-American job bill called the CRAP and PRAY (Cap and Trade) and that we are ALL holding them accountable. That is ACTION and being ACTIVE, don’t blame others for the lack of action that you are taking! This is a forum where we get together and ensure that each one of us is aware of whats going on. So, get out there and make it happen, you have the drive. You can bet as soon as I am done overseas, I will be ACTIVE and getting out there because whether it is just me by myself or with a million of my fellow American Patriots, I will be out there ensuring that the idiots in our Government KNOW that atleast one TRUE American is unhappy with their performance! A BULLHORN works wonders.

It’s like this. We didn’t just wake up one day and end up here. It took a long time for us to get this far off track so it’s going to take a long time to get us back on course. For some of us, we won’t even be alive long enough to see the end results. All we can do is work to get the ball rolling. Stop acting like one of those people who want to drop 30 pounds over the course of a weekend when we all know you didn’t put the 30 on that fast to begin with.

 aboutTO-good post and so very true.I like so many around me had been idle for so very long as our country was flushed down the tube.I managed to vote for the lessor of two evils come election time but that was really it.
With the election of the “great satin” I realized It was time to do something.I started calling and
e-mailing politicians.I registered and started attending TEA parties. They may seem like baby steps, but we all must start somewhere.
 Average Joe – We must all organize and fight this evil in a civil manner. If this method fails,I am affraid things will spiral out of control to the next level. If and when this happens we must all be ready to do what we must, just as our founders did.
So stop pointing fingers and start shaking hands with like minded people.WE are ALL on the same side. :gun:

    • David

The Republican leadership, if you want to call it that, sucks. They are WHORES just like the democrats. They spent like crazy because the dems did it. They are just as much to blame. And we kept voting them [Republicans] back in office. This morning on FNS, McCoinnell said that we have a “global warming” problem. The problem is that he is the senate minority leader and he says that?
So, where from here? Johnny Doe, aTb, Chuck O, unkaglen and others on this post have it right. We need to stop whining like democrats and stand up for our great Country. We need others with the courage to take our Country back. To do this we need real leaders, not more WHORES. The time to organize for 2010 is now.

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

the time to hold them accountable is now, not in 2010 because by then it will be too late and the Country we once new and grew up in will be long gone! Is that what you want for your children? People, it is not about us anymore, it is about our children! The time to protest and hold them accountable is now! BECOME the LARGEST pain in the ass your SENATOR and CONGRESSMAN/WOMAN have ever had! ENSURE they know the RIGHT way of doing things and that they are going to be held accountable! Become PRO-ACTIVE not RE-ACTIVE, that was the problem of yesteryear, being reactive to issues that arose but we do not have that luxury anymore!!! ANYONE want to the take the lead on this and organize all here, on ACTIVE, resistnet, tea partiers and ALL other organizations and PROTEST DC? The time to do it is now. I cannot due to ongoing commitments overseas.

They don’t listen because the WHORES are too busy getting re-elected by using earmarks [see what I did for you with other people's money? No, WHORE, it is OUR money] and letting lobbyists contribute to their campaign committees.

    • David

“I am sorry if I got carried away.”
Don’t apologize. It is a sign of weakness and that’s all obama does. Reagan didn’t apologize.
You have a right to be angry, just like the rest of us.

    • Johnny Doe

Screw that. Apologizing isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of integrity. Honorable people own up to their mistakes and respect others who do the same. It CAN be done out of weakness, like Obama does. He goes around groveling and apologizing for things he shouldn’t be. It would be a grave mistake to confuse the two.

  • Lottie

oboma apoligizes not for himself or what he has done but for all of America for what we have done. He will never apoligize for himself for what he does to us. I too have many times showed my anger, fear fustration here. I get impatient and want it now. Like all I vent but I am not for ever running. I have limited meens to do much so I use my computer to send out all and any information I find and send to others. I am thankfull to have this fine group of true Americans to help keep our spirits up when down. God Bless America and my we be granted the power to bring our country back.

  • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

    Well people, I have been on my Senator and this was the response received (this was in response to me writing in regards to stopping this CRAP AND PRAY Bill HR 2454;

“Thank you for contacting me regarding the American Clean Energy and Security Act. I welcome your thoughts and comments.

In our effort to reduce emissions, I believe we must invest in alternative sources of energy. Wind, solar, nuclear, and biomass are clean, safe and effective sources of power. Their increased use would create thousands of jobs and allow us to produce energy for Americans, by Americans.

Some Members of Congress have expressed their intent to mandate a cap-and-trade policy to be imposed on all Americans. I believe that cap-and-trade would increase energy prices. In 2008, Peter Orszag, who then served as the Director of the Congressional Budget Office, and who now serves as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, testified before the U.S. Senate’s Committee on Finance on the implications of a cap-and-trade regime. In his testimony, Director Orszag stated, “Under a cap-and-trade program, firms would not ultimately bear most of the costs of the allowances but instead would pass them along to their customers in the form of higher prices.”

For this reason, I believe that a cap-and-trade approach to address climate change would be onerous and would adversely impact the economy. It could create economic hardship for farmers, ranchers, workers and small businesses, in addition to consumers. The last thing our nation needs during this time of economic hardship is higher energy prices and higher levels of unemployment due to a federal mandate passed down from Washington.

As cap-and-trade legislation comes before the Senate, I will keep your comments in mind. I appreciate hearing from you, and I hope you will not hesitate to keep in touch on any issue that is important to you.”

This comment is for anyone still committed to pounding some truth into the minds of our elected morons in Congress.

Since our Senators and our Congressmen seem to be incapable of reading any ‘real’ science or talking to any scientists with integrity… maybe they can sit through a, slightly longer then one hour long, documentary film.

This assumes, of course, that any of them are Internet-literate enough to even figure out how to watch a video on a computer.

I saw a post of Friday on other site, but don’t remember which one. It stated that we should absolutely be comparing NOW to 1774-1776. And here it is paraphrased:

The Democrat-RINO laws from before 2008 Election, “ILLEGAL ALIEN” love-fest, TARP, Anti-American speech, ACORN vote-rigged election, STIMULUS, Homeland Security Memo on Right-Wingers, Pro-Islamic movement, Trillion-plus Budget, GM-Chrysler, Cap & Tax, Healthcare takeover are all actions comparible to British actions before Revolution.

The 2008 Election with ACORN-Black Panthers should be compares to Boston Massacre, a Tea Parties Comparison, and FBI/Homeland Security compares to Lexington-Concord. So the conclusion is that the Democrats alreadyhave fired the first shots and we need to respond with Action and not words……………….

Personally, I think that if Cap&Tax is passed, it will shut down my industry in 6-7 months and it will never recover. Soon after that, the abolute Socialist-Elitists will have their personal jets, limos, media, mansions at the expense of the whole Country.

I copied the following Definition of ‘American Socialism’ onto my computer a few months ago, here it is:

A political ideology based on the redistribution of wealth, socialism stresses the privileges of the many over the rights of the few, but in practice when socialist economic principles are forced onto a nation by a totalitarian government a new Upper Class appears which is much better off than the Lower Class.

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.” – Winston Churchill
