Lindsey Graham May Vote “Yes” For Sotomayor

In Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is sounding like a possible supporter. He opened up his comments by saying: “We’ll see what your future holds, but I think it’s going to be pretty bright.” And after an exchange about the Second Amendment, he said he doesn’t think she’s an activist.
“That’s what makes you more acceptable as a judge and not an activist,” Graham said. “I think and believe based on what I know about you so far that you’re broad minded enough to know that America is bigger than the Bronx and bigger than South Carolina.”
After Sotomayor gave yet another explanation of the “wise Latina” remark, Graham told her: “You know what, judge: I agree with you.” And discussing Ricci, he said: “You have as a judge been generally been in the mainstream…The Ricci case, you missed one of the biggest issues in the country or you took a pass. But I’m going to say that as Sen. Feinstein said you have come a long way, you have earned the respect of Ken Starr … and you have said some things that have bugged the hell out of me.”
