You can't compare fiscal conservative, pro-life, pro-military McCain and deficit spending, pro-abortion liberal Specter. Their voting records historically and this year have been miles apart. For one recent example, McCain denounced Obama's budget as "generational theft" (a phrase that Sean Hannity then used thereafter); Specter voted for Obama's budget when the Democrats did not have the filibuster proof Senate yet. For another more dated example, McCain was a strong supporter of Robert Bork's confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court; Specter voted against Bork.

What you call the MSM (mainstream media) and I now call the state supporting media did not win the GOP primary for McCain last year. McCain was almost out of it completely at one point in the summer of 2007. But he came back because he kept going, arguing for the Iraq War when it was not clear the surge would work and for fiscal conservatism. He did so by always doing well in the GOP primary debates, making countless appearances in 18 hour days and coming off as overall the most solid candidate, particularly given his unquestioned and unquetionable knowledge and experience in foreign policy, military matters and national security. In contrast, Guiliani's liberal social views and horrible campaign turned off many Republicans; Romney's money did not translate into votes as doubts about him persisted given his record as a pro-abortion liberal Massachusetts Governor who appointed Democrats to judicial office and who did not have much if any knowledge and experience in foreign policy, military matters and national security; Huckabee was not a fiscal conservative as Arkansas Governor who again did not have much if any knowledge and experience in foreign policy, military matters and national security; Fred Thompson did not have fire in his belly to run; and Ron Paul's foreign policy was wacky, blaming America for 9-11.

It was just a bad year in 2008 all around for Republicans, with the financial "crisis," the Bush Administration bank bailout, the unpopularity of Bush, demographic changes favoring Democrats, Obama money and Obama loving media. People forget, though, that at the Saddleback Forum hosted by Rick Warren, McCain dwarfed Obama and on substance beat him in each debate moderated by the a MSM representaive trying to help Obama. Had the campaign been decided on substance and foreign policy, McCain wins despite everything.

I understand what you write about the left wing media trumpeting words by McCain, and McCain may have once thought that he could neutralize a media hostile to Republicans. He learned otherwise in the 2008 election. If you have been listening to what McCain has been saying this year, he has been 99% highly critical of Obama.

I do respect the man. Especially his service.

What I do not respect is that he is constantly used as a pawn by the MSM to screw conservatism in this Country. Like Arlen Specter, every time he contradicts anything conservative, it's blasted all over the Country by the MSM as the "reasoned" voice of conservatives. The MSM is what won him the primary last year by trashing and marginalizing anyone that was remotely (and truly) conservative. Then, when he went up against God, they threw him to the wolves. And, yet, he's still getting played to this day.

This is an excellent statement by McCain, who this year voted against every Obama bailout and budget bill, denouncing the multi-trillion dollar deficit spending as "generational theft," and voted against the confirmations of Geithner, Kagan, Sibellius and Koh to their respective positions in the Obama Administration.

Instead of knocking McCain, we should be cheering his well reasoned criticism of Obama's actions (or rather non-actions) with respect to Iran. The Iranian protests should be supported by us. Obama is the problem and the object of our scorn.

McCain is not saying what he is because he is up for election. His words here are consistent with his being a hawk with respect to foreign policy, military matters and national security. Remember McCain was almost alone in 2006 supporting the Iraq War, when even many Republicans went wobbly, and McCain was instrumental in the Senate in beating back Democrat efforts to cut off all funding for and lose the war. McCain's support for our troops was seemingly against his political interests, but he did so because he would rather lose an election than a war.

As Pete Hegseth once wrote in the National Review Online, respect the man.

McCain always "goes faux conservative" when election time is looming (he's up in 2012).

This lame bastard just want to be around to help ensure passage of Ogabe's amnesty legislation. He's a piece of crap.

Get his ass out of office ONCE AND FOR ALL by supporting Simcox for the GOP nomination:

McCain's behavior is guided by the honor code at the Naval Academy.

What ever he thinks is honorable he'll try to do it.

Such as amnesty for illegals or even the sucker punch known as campaign reform.

It doesn't matter to him whether or not it will royally fuck things up, just as long as the two dozen, still functioning brain cells in his head says it's honorable, then everything's hunky-dory.

I wish to hell John McCain would just shut the fuck up. If this RINO harbors thoughts of another run for the Presidency, he's got to be mad dog crazy. That's why we're in this mess right now... last November, our only choices were two progressive liberals.
John McCain needs to just ride off into the sunset and stop trying to speak for the Republican Party. Let more conservative voices be heard.
