Here’s what I saw.

I receive “call to action” emails from both
ACTIVE NY region #1 leader Dan Maloney, and from the Conservative Society for Action.

ACORN and Move-on.org are staging a rally in front of NY Senator Chuck Schummer’s
Long Island office. ACORN’s stated purpose is to create the illusion of popular support
for nationalized health care. This was to occur at 11:45 AM the very next morning.

11:30 PM

Thursday 7/9/09, 11:40 AM

A police car races by me with lights flashing as I approach the Senator’s office building.
I didn’t know it at the time but I would see this vehicle again later.

11:45 AM

I arrive at the Senator’s office building at the same time as the Director of CSA.
We are the first to arrive.

Several CSA members show up and begin distributing signs.

ACORN is already in position just outside the building’s entrance.
The ACORN group is no more than 6 people.
Later their ranks swelled to a whopping 10 people.
They are surrounded by Police cars with flashing lights.

Later I learned that ACORN called the Police and demanded any
counter protesters be kept away.
For the next hour new patriots show up steadily.
ACORN is about to have a bad day.

12:00 PM

The combined ACTIVE, CSA, GOE, AND 9/12 groups are about 35 strong by now.
We all walk to the building’s entrance to face the enemy.
The ACORN-holes are clearly upset by our “intrusion”.

12:15 PM

The patriots number about 50 with more streaming in by the minute.
The Police warn us not to block traffic flow in the parking lot.
We comply by stepping fully into the court yard like building entrance.
We are now literally nose to nose with ACORN.
It smells like stale popcorn and ass.

12:30 PM

Patriot numbers are easily 100 and growing.
ACORN members begin shouting slogans and talking points at us and passersby.
Patriots respond to the slogans with questions and begin to “dialogue” with them.
Around this time one of Schummer’s aides comes down and speaks to the CSA leaders.
He thanked them for coming, but the Senator is in Washington DC and cannot speak to them.
The CSA leaders inform Schummer’s aide that they didn’t come to see the Senator.
Dialogues with ACORN begin to get intense and loud.

12:45-55 PM

Patriot numbers peak to over 150.
ACORN decides to change venues by moving to the other end of the building
where Senator Gilibrand’s office is located.

At the time we all thought they had given up and were going home.

All 150 patriots began to sing in unison,
“Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey hey, goodbye”.
Then we sang “God Bless America”, Then Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It”.

I thought to myself, This is a good day to be an American.

All but 1 ACORN member walked off.
I had an exchange with this remaining ACORN member.
An elderly woman with white hair and a white cain.

It went something like this:
Me: So, how much per hour does ACORN pay you to protest?
Her: Nothing. I’m a volunteer just like you.
Me: Well that makes you kind of pathetic now doesn’t it?
Her: Pathetic how?
Me: Your promoting communism and your not even getting paid.
Her: Communism? You don’t know anything about communism.
Me: Its true I’ve never had to live under communism, but when I read their stated goals
and compare it to what your spouting, it’s the same thing.
You are a communist.

That’s when she hit me in the head with her cain.
Don’t worry, I lived to tell the tale.

1:15 PM

It’s now a party atmosphere amongst the patriot crowd.
The patriot crowd begins to thin.
One or two random leftists (not ACORN) are calmly discussing issues with patriots.

A lone camera man from local Long Island TV station, TV55 shows up (sans reporter) .
He sets up the camera in the parking lot about 50 feet from the patriot gathering.

1:40 PM

The patriot crowd is steadily leaving, down to about 40.
The TV55 camera man films an ACORN member holding the mic and talking to the camera, (much like a reporter would do) with us in the background.

Being too far away to hear what was said, I can’t factually report what happened here.
I can tell you that I wasn’t happy to see this.

1:50 PM

The ACORN crowd walks by us on the way to their cars.
The old woman with the cain didn’t wave good bye to me.
They all leave.

2:15 PM

The leaders of the 4 groups have a quick meeting in the parking lot.
Topics of discussion were the accomplishments of the day and the follow up mission.

Then we all got in our cars and left.

One last observation with regards to the Police:
From the outset ACORN treated the Police like they were servants or butlers.
The patriot group was respectful of the Police and immediately complied with THEIR concerns.

Through out the entire event, the Suffolk County Police were courteous, and professional.
