CBS:

NEW YORK ― New York City’s largest municipal union is endorsing City Comptroller and Democratic front-runner William Thompson Jr. in the coming mayoral race, posing a major political setback for Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

District Council 37 is backing Thompson Jr., an endorsement that will give Thompson much-needed help against the billionaire incumbent, who has already spent more than $36 million on his third-term bid.

The union has 125,000 members and 50,000 retirees across many city departments. They maintain bridges, roads and subways and work in health care, schools and libraries.

It’s a diverse force that will provide Thompson with troops on the ground for his campaign.

Thompson is the Democratic front-runner. Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent, is not competing in a primary.

Meanwhile, a July Quinnipiac University poll showed Thompson making up ground on Bloomberg, trailing 47 to 37 percent. Bloomberg had a 54 to 32 percent lead in a poll taken the previous month.

It’s just NYC standard bullshit politics usually these unions end up endorsing the loser anyway.

The problem I have with Bloomberg is that they are basically changing the term-limit to accommodate his wishes to remain in office.

I remember Giuliani offered to stay on the job after 9/11 and Bloomberg was like: “No, no, no: Term limits” and yet when it suited him, he managed to get it changed.

I think Bloomberg has been good in carrying on a lot of Giuliani’s policies. I don’t like that he’s neither fish nor fowl politically.

BUT IT’S TOTAL BULLSHIT THAT HE’S CHANGING THE RULES!

    Sorry.

This bothers me. Especially with all the dirty dealing in DC. Can you imagine them doing this for the Supreme Leader some day?

Bloomberg is running this place into the ground. He’s more concerned with controlling every aspect of his subject’s lives than dealing with aggressive panhandlers, junkies, muggers, rapists, and drug dealers.

He’s laying off cops to hire inspectors to make sure foodstands at street fairs are using King Bloomy-approved oil in the fryers.

It’d actually be better if we had a mayor less competent at imposing his will on those unfortunate enough to be under his thumb.

I wouldn’t give a rat’s @ss who they elect as mayor… but his face and voice is all over t.v. across the country.
