Obama Invokes Death Of Grandmother Many Say He Murdered In Health Care Debate – With Video

Obama

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) – Now, it’s personal. President Barack Obama invoked his own anguish over the death of a loved one as he challenged the debunked notion that Democratic efforts to overhaul the nation’s health care would include “death panels.”

“I just lost my grandmother last year. I know what it’s like to watch somebody you love, who’s aging, deteriorate and have to struggle with that,” an impassioned Obama told a crowd as he spoke of Madelyn Payne Dunham. He took issue with “the notion that somehow I ran for public office or members of Congress are in this so they can go around pulling the plug on grandma.”

“When you start making arguments like that, that’s simply dishonest—especially when I hear the arguments coming from members of Congress in the other party who, turns out, sponsored similar provisions,” Obama said.

In a debate in which he often sounds professor-like, Obama spoke with a rare bit of emotion that seemed to counter that of vocal health care opponents as he referenced the beloved grandmother who helped raise him and who he called “Toot.” She died of cancer at age 86 on Nov. 2, two days before he won election to become the nation’s first African-American president.

He talked about her death while answering a question about misinformation being spread about Democratic health care efforts during a town hall style gathering in a high school gymnasium.

“Health care is really hard. This is not easy. I’m a reasonably dedicated student to this issue. I’ve got a lot of really smart people around me who’ve been working on this for months now,” he said. “There is no perfect painless silver bullet out there that solves every problem, gives everybody health care for free. There isn’t. I wish there was.”

But he said that because there’s no perfect solution to solving health care, opponents “start saying things like we want to set up death panels to pull the plug on grandma.”

The president is seeking to put to rest claims that the health care overhaul he seeks would set up “death panels” to rule on life-sustaining care for ailing seniors. It would not, and Obama has stressed that point repeatedly over the past week.

Obama reiterated his contention that the Democratic health care legislation would not create “death panels” to deny care to frail seniors. Obama has explained that the provision that has caused the uproar would only authorize Medicare to pay doctors for counseling patients about end-of-life care, living wills, hospice care and other issues, if the patient wants it.

Conservatives have called end-of-life counseling in government health care programs like Medicare a step toward euthanasia and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has likened the idea to a bureaucratic “death panel” that would decide whether sick people get to live. Those claims have been widely discredited but the issue remains a political weapon in the increasingly bitter health care debate.

I just love how the MSM is still trying to cover his ass on this…Even after the Senate HAD to remove the death panel provision from their version of the bill…Thereby ADMITTING it was in the Fucking bill.

Get over media, Sarah Palin kicked the left’s messiah ass all over the place in this debate. The American people (not just us right-wingers) aren’t buying the bullshit anymore.

Also notice how he drags out grandma’s dead body every time he’s in trouble…i.e. last time it was the Revered Wright issue.

    What a dick

  • Sully

Barry is on TV so much he’ll have gone through every logical fallacy by… er, yesterday.

As Mark Steyn wrote, the Dems don’t want to “unplug Grandma”. They never want her ‘plugged IN’.

but dash’d and brew’d with lies,

Discredited? How? How has such a notion been discredited when there is a 1,200+ page bill out there that no one has read in its entirety? Do we simply take a politician’s word that Death Panels don’t exist? That takes trust and I don’t think that many people out there have trust in politicians.

To quote Psalm 146: “Put not your trust in princes and sons of men, in whom there is no salvation. When their breath departs, they return to their earth and their plans perish.”

If the government would keep their fingers out of our present health care we wouldn’t be having this issue. Those that profit from our current system are the same one standing in line for the new so they don’t really care one way or the other.
This health care bill is not about helping anyone. It is about taking our own decision making and giving them the power instead.

In this bill it also will take any of your assets when you die. You lose much more than your lifes decisions.

Don’t it seem kinda funny that just when all the baby boomers are getting ready to retire we are the ones to suffer the most.

Our funds have been robbed by greety government officials, many have to go back to work. But there are many also unable to work what about them.

This generation of baby boomers were the ones keeping this country going. So instead of the life we worked hard for is pulled right out from under ourselves.

It is us that will save this country again because all other generations have been selfish little brats. They don’t know what real work is. They call making money from others missfortune a job. If we are the only ones left that care why should we be the one to stand up and say no more? I am sick and tired of trying to be nice to people when I say things about all this shit. It is open season on these mf ers I won’t listen or take any more crap from you.

I have been called a racist two days in a row. It is not about race it is about what it meens to be a true American. We have many coultures in our country. We have been very good hosts, we have listened thoughtfully, been considerate, understanding. It is stopping now. The more you allow to happen, the longer we let things go the more we lose of our America. Why do these people come to our country? Its not for the right reasons. We have no where else to go for the kind of life we made for ourselves. We were nice people and just like anytime you are to nice to people they start taking from you untill you have nothing left. Then they complain about how we treat them. If you don’t like it get the hell out so we can enjoy our country because it is the American people that have saved the world and now we are the ones needing to be saved. Don’t wait for it to happen if you want things done we have to do it ourselves. It is always been this way in America and this time it is no diffrent. Stop trying to do everything by law why would you think it would work they are not going by the laws they are making up laws and not holding to laws to take all we have. If America can’t get up and fight for ourselves we deserve to lose. I am not going to let this happen anyway I can. If being a racist so be it. Get the fuck out of our country so we can get back to enjoy life as we deserve. Otherwise get out there and do any and everything you can because time is getting short and the enemy is almost set to take the final step . It is better to die trying than to live under what is coming soon. Pray that God gives the wisdom and power so we may be suscusfull and get rid of these maggots so they won’t do this again. FREEDOM TO US THE ONES THAT DESERVE IT BECAUSE WE ARE WILLING TO STANDUP AND KICK THE SHIT OUT OF THESE ENEMYS. GOD BLESS AMERICA YES WE CAN. :gun: :gun: :gun:

  • GRIZZ

He smothered grandma with a pillow just to prove how compassionate he is.

  • dwall

“Pass health care or I am taking off this stupid flag pin – dammit”

  • http://grouchyconservativepundits.com maggie

The death panels have already been set up through
    HR1, the stimulus bill.

“Who is on the Council? One of its most prominent members is none other than Dr. Death himself Ezekiel Emanuel. Dr. Emanuel’s views on care of the elderly should frighten anyone who is or ever plans on being old. He explains the logic behind his discriminatory views on elderly care as follows:

Unlike allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination; every person lives through different life stages rather than being a single age. Even if 25-year-olds receive priority over 65-year-olds, everyone who is 65 years now was previously 25 years.”

Unless this bill is subjected to immediate scrutiny
we’re going to start seeing some highly unpleasant
    consequences from it.

And then of course there’s the fact the IRS in both
House and Senate bills is being set up as the
    medical insurance enforcer.
The IRS will be privy to every intimate detail of
your health profile. They will get to decide if
and when you should be penalized with a tax for
not being approved by what kind of insurance you
have or if you opt out.
We are basically looking at the very end of the
last bit of personal freedom we have, all within
    a very short time.
A line needs to be drawn NOW, and the first one of
the bastards who crosses it should be subjected
to every nightmarish consequence this bill will
bring down on all of us.

Sad to see a US president reduced to this … lies is all he has. And the whoppers are coming fast and furious. The only thing I can think of is he thinks we are all as dumb as Kenyans.

    • copperpeony

He doesn’t think we are dumb as Kenyans. He knows exactly what we think because he has his spies reading all the blogs. He is preparing as Stalin and Mussolini did.

He is also waiting for trouble so he can martial law us into submission.

  • ignifer

I predict Americans as a group will equivocate, and rationalize inaction, until we are either in chains so fully cinched as to make freeing ourselve from them impossible or faced with a struggle so brutal that it makes freeing ourselves from them NOW pale in comparison.
Half steps will be our undoing.
By not wanting to endure the mildly distasteful or moderately painful we set ourselves up for the bitter and the unendurable.
I think there was a time when AMERICANS saw quickly that harm to the Liberty one was a threat to the Liberty of all.
“The price of Liberty is eternal Vigilance”..have we lost sight of this in our comfort and compalcency?Americans used to LIVE by this truth. We wont even get off the couch and endure time away from the air conditioner to counter blatantly anti-Individual Marxists stealing our freedom in broad daylight. We are not even SUNSHINE PATRIOTS.

Extremism in defense of Liberty IS NO VICE. I know the regulars here see this truth but what is it going to take to wake up the herd of sheeple we find ourselves surrounded by?

don’t be fooled, there are alot of people who fall for tactics like this. we have the next chavez here.

    Off Topic:

Does this sound fishy to anyone else? This is a program by Michael L. Thurmond, a Commissioner Georgia Dept. of Labor (Democrat):

    Georgia Works Program

In response to the weak economy and lengthening terms of unemployment, Georgia Department of Labor Commissioner Michael L. Thurmond created Georgia Works, an innovative training initiative designed to stimulate job growth and hiring. Georgia Works allows laid-off workers who qualify for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits to receive on-site workplace training, regular UI benefits, and a special training allowance. This allowance is intended to defray some of the costs associated with training such as childcare, transportation, tools, and work clothes.

Employers in the Georgia Works program provide training for a maximum of 24 hours per week for up to eight weeks. Upon successful completion, trainees receive certification of acquired job skills and will be considered for employment.

“Georgia Works enables businesses to audition potential employees,” Thurmond said, “and it helps the unemployed gain access to training and, potentially, new jobs. What this does is create a transitional period between unemployment and employment.”

Job Seekers may contact any GDOL Career Center for more information about how to become a Georgia Works trainee. Employers who would like more information about how to participate in the program as a worksite may contact the Career Center in their local area.

    • copperpeony

OMG…tooooooo funny. Thanks for my Sunday smile

  • Mertin

I’d like to introduce some logic.
There are just two things you need to consider:
    1. How much you spend
    2. How much you get

    1. The US spends 16% of GDP on private health care. That work out at $7300 annually per person.

    2. The US outcomes are similar to the UK. Britons live 2 years longer than Americans and less babies die there at birth. The US has better breast cancer and prostate cancer survival rates. Both countries have very similar numbers of doctors and nurses per 1000 people.

So what’s important about being similar to the UK? Well they only spend $3000 annually per person to get the same results as the US. So the US system is very expensive.

As for death panels: The UK system decides what they’ll pay for… based on how far the money goes… and that’s it. The money goes further than it does in the US but there’s a limit. Want more care? They have to pay more taxes or go private.

In the US at the moment what’s the difference? Just that when your own money runs out, or the insurance company refuse to pay, or Medicare takes too long, you get no treatment. Same damn thing. Treatment cut off because the money’s not there to pay.

So what’s the real difference? Cost. The US system is the most expensive in the world. Go take a look at all the insurance companies…. look at all those shiny buildings… all the employees shuffling out. Do you think that all comes free?

Screaming: He looks like Hitler!: Death panels!: he killed his grandmaw!… ain’t gonna make the US system of health any cheaper.

Oh, and that guy… Stephen Hawking… that famous physicist in a wheelchair… the one with motor neurone disease… scare mongering articles said the death panels would kill… if he lived in the UK… guess what?

He’s British… works at Cambridge University… been there all his life… says he owes his life to the National Health Service… in that country where they spend less than half what we do per person.

So cut out the hysteria and work out how we get costs down because we could have the best system in the world if each treatment didn’t cost two or three times what it costs elsewhere.

You want a system based on insurance? Fine, work out how it pays for itself.
You want billing departments? Fine, include the wages of all the accountants.
You want socialised medicine? Who manages it? Who keeps costs under control?
You want competition based on individual responsibility? You work out how the individual gets a fair deal from a multinational drug company when he’s scared for his life.

These problems need solutions, not hysteria.

    • Sully

      So you’re a Socialist?

    • politicalfish

Your logic, as you call it is flawed. Your assertion that UK health care is near equal to US outcomes is laughable. As far as Mr. Hawking. The UK has both ‘public’ and ‘private’ health care. Mr. Hawking does not get the same care those on the public system get. As you admit he’s a Cambridge Prof! Socialism fails in every domain it infects. The US systems functions very well, except to the degree that government involves itself into it. The reason third party payors (Ins. Co.s) are doing so well is a direct result of government intervention to remove health care decisions from the physicians!
Take your socialized nanny-state bullshit and shove it up your ass. Unless you want to talk about UK dental care.

    • Sully

      LOL… yeah Mertin, what political.fish said… lmao

My question was serious though because you’re ‘appeal to logic’ was fallacious. It was the same ‘argument’ that Barry was trying to sell until He ran into the folks at the Congressional Budget Office that actually know something about ‘actuarial economics’. The Euro-Socialist ‘systems’, based on populations of ~60 million, would NOT fit an American population of ~300 million. Costs to America would dramatically increase rather than decrease and the quality of care would suffer dramatically.
That is what has brought Barry to ad hominem attacks against ‘evil’ insurance companies and doctors that perform unnecessary amputations and His special pleadings about His Grandma.

    • Sully

      “competent Capitalists”?
      lmao
There’s nothing either Capitalist or logical about nationalizing health in America.

      See my earlier reply Mertin.

    • JayMS

      Absolute horseshit.

It does not cost less in the UK. The government just caps out what they will pay out. That doesn’t do jackshit to lower costs only to ration care. Of course you marxist assholes also conveniently neglect to mention the horrific taxes you pay on damn near everything you buy to pay for these programs.

Secondly, don’t insult my intelligence by lying to me about the “death panel” issue either. I know for an absolute fact that NHS denies care to older people, the overweight, and smokers. NHS outrightly denies certain cancer treatements that are common in the US and tells people to fuck off and die after they pay horrific taxes their whole life.

Notice how you also neglect to mention Britain’s wonderful “do it yourself” dental care. People literally use pliers to pull their own teeth because of a shortage of dentists.

How is this any kind of improvement? Because it “costs less”? Or perhaps you would prefer the US adopt the Cuban model of healthcare? A two-tier system where honchos in the communist party or foreign soccer players get top-notch care while the peons get stuffed into roach-infested hospitals.

What an absolute mountain of weak-sauce bullshit you are trying to sell us here. What new thinking do you or Obama have to offer us? All I see is the same old warmed-over marxist garbage that has been nothing but an abject failure everwhere it has been tried. Fuck socialized medicine. You can keep it over there.

  • CJW

Leave it to Hussein to use a gimmick to try and sell a bill he knows nothing about.

His knowledge on the bill he hasn’t read is minimal, he’s not a doctor or insurer, and he has proven he will lie to get what he wants. This narcissist truly believes the end just the the means to get to his big win, no matter how bad it is for the country.

Here’s the deal, Baby Boomers: You have had your turn.

Your only social function now is to hurry up and die so that the rest of us can have your toys.

    Social Security: Gone. Broke. Kaput.
Medicare: Gone. Bankrupt. Toppled under its own weight.
401(k)? Don’t make me laugh. The Government knows, to the cent, how much money you put away, and when, and what your tax bracket was when you “deferred” that income. You only think the money is yours. Get this: ALL money belongs to the Government! “Your” share of “your” 401(k) will be as much as the Government says it is. So make some alternative plans for “your” “retirement”.

You worked hard, played by the rules, and paid all your life. You stupid, gullible sheep believed all this time that “your” Social Security money was sitting somewhere waiting for you to turn 65 and start drawing a monthly check. How God-damned stupid can you be?

It sucks to be you. It is a different world not. If you don’t like it, tough shit.
