NEW YORK (Nielsen Business Media) – Some of the nation’s biggest advertisers are distancing themselves from Fox News host Glenn Beck after he called President Obama a racist during a July 28 broadcast.

Geico has pulled its ads from Fox News Channel’s “The Glenn Beck Program.” Lawyers.com, which is owned by LexisNexis, also has vowed not to advertise during the program, according to Color of Change, an African-American online political organization that has been urging advertisers to stop supporting the show.

Additionally, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance and SC Johnson all said their ad placements during the broadcast were made in error and that they would correct the mistake.

The controversy stems from Beck’s comment that President Obama is a “racist” with “a deep-seated hatred for white people.”

Geico spent more than a half-billion dollars on ads last year, according to the Nielsen Co. It spent more than a quarter-billion dollars in the first half of 2009.

A Fox representative noted that Geico is dropping its ads from the show but was quick to note that it was shifting dollars to other programs. “The advertisers referenced have all moved their spots from Beck to other programs on the network, so there has been no revenue lost,” the rep said.

Beck’s show pulled in an average of slightly more than 2 million viewers for each of its 19 telecasts in July, according to Nielsen.

Progressive Insurance representative Cristy Cote said that there has been a lot of confusion surrounding the company’s involvement with the program. “We had not bought advertising on the show in the first place,” she said, “so when we learned that our advertising had appeared on the show by mistake, we contacted the network to correct the error.”

She said Progressive tries to “avoid programing that we believe our customers and potential customers might find extremely offensive.”

A Procter & Gamble representative echoed that sentiment: “At times our ads are run by mistake on shows that they were not meant to … Any of our ads that ran did so by mistake, and we’ll try to make sure that doesn’t happen in the future.”

I love Glenn Beck and only wish he was on the air between 7 & 10. I know, I need to DVR him.

  • John Charles

Now is the time to boycott all advertisers who don’t want the Glen Beck audience. When millions take their business to their competitors let them justify their losses to their shareholders. Stand up America, fight back when the truth is tryiong to be suppressed.

  • Trigger Control

Go here and send an email to the list they have on their site. Tell all those pussy racist supporters to shove their products.

Here is the email I sent to them all:

    To Whom it may concern,

I understand you have chosen to withdraw advertising on the Glenn Beck Show. Do you understand you are being manipulated by an extreme fringe group bent on seeing companies like yours socialized. Don’t think it can happen to you, just look at the banks, automobile industry and next stop health care. People like myself and my family spend thousands of dollars a year on your products and services. If you choose to turn your back on people such as Glenn Beck, I will have no choice but to no longer require your products or services.

When you have a moment feel free to do the math (2.4 million viewers * thousands of dollars per viewer) = a huge dent in YOUR profits!

I am sure those Color of Change folks will more than make up for the difference in your profit decline.

    Have a great day!

    • westcoastgirl

BTW, an extreme fringe group whose leader spent time in prison for inciting the LA race riots of 1992 and who has also accused President Bush of allowing blacks to die during hurricane Katrina.

  • westcoastgirl

If you don’t already, also start to look and see where the products you are purchasing are made. Many value products in grocery stores are made in America, while brand name items are made foreign. Especially GE products, which I have no problem not using. I hate P&G products for the most part too.

    • Hawkerdriver (Pisson the Koran

P&G sold out to the left decades ago. That they would back olucifer and his friends ain’t no surprise.

Remember this.Color of change really only represents the ideology of about 18% of this country.Small fry, noumsain?

  • Sully

It’s past time to start paying attention to where your consumer spending is going America.
    Stop supporting Progressives!

  • Kevin

Ha, I already canceled my Geico insurance and told them where to stick it. The dirtbag on the other end of the phone told me they want to be apolitical. I told them that there is no other way to be more political than to pull advertisment, and if they were truley apolitical, they’d pull it from every news network. So much for my 900 every 6 months I was paying, Geico doesn’t need it.

    • GRIZZ

    • Scoot

State Farm told me basically the same thing.

What is interesting, is that these insurance companies are bowing down to the commies who are saying they are the devil. Makes you wonder why they’re doing it. They’re doing it because they support this commie shit. They are just playing the bad guy role for now. It’s all a freaking game to these pricks, and we are the pawns. It’s time we wipe off the board of this evil game of theirs.

    • Hawkerdriver (Pisson the Koran

I use Cotton States. They beat geeko’s rates.Old conservative company, check’em out. Also Woodmen of the World has a conservative reputation.

The advertisers need to understand that obama is a racist. The advertisers acted stupidly.

  • Mark Gibbons

Now is the time for gun manufactures to buy these ad spots. Buy a Harley get a gun free.

      FUCK YOU OHITLER !

  • TerryTate

Well, while they may not be pulling their revenue from Fox, I hate to see people quibbling and splitting hairs.

I guess, next time I’m in the grocery isle, I’ll just use their line,

Apparently I picked up your product by mistake. Please excuse me while I put it back on the shelf and take a different brand….

    • Ivan the Kafir

LOL…I like that line…I’ll try it out

  • GRIZZ

Good.I was sick of seeing that progressive freak chick

  • http://papaswamp.blogspot.com Papa Swamp

color of change co-chair is also Obama’s Green Jobs czar…..hmmmm surely there can’t be a connection…

  • J Griffin

As an Insurance Agent I have not recommended the Progressive Insurance Group for over five years. It was at that time that I found out the largest Stockhol;der was 1. a friend of George Soros, 2. An ultra Lib who sponsored Moveon and the KOS Krackpotts. Persides that they a re a really lousey company to deal with. They constantly try to underpay claims in our area(Northeast). P & G and GE are buying most of their consumer products in China etc so same for them. What is good for the Goose is good for the Gander. Obama is btw all about payback- he did not sit and listen to Jeremiah Wrong and Louis the Lip Farakhanned for 20 years for no reason. Look at the details in the all of these bills to get a real eye opener. Racism comes in all shapes sizes and colors.

  • Tom

I was one of those folks that emailed SC Johnson and got a reply that may as well have come from a government agency, just a circle-jerk line of crap. I decided rather than get into a pissing contest with them I’ll simply boycott their consumer products and like-minded friends will need no convincing, just alternatives. I’ll be more than glad to help. Much easier for me to react on a professional level tho, as I have control over an institutional cleaning products budget…I owe it to those that fund my operation to get the highest quality for the lowest price, and I certainly can’t allow Johnson to have a stranglehold on my budget…and no point in telegraphing my punches, I’m just gonna do it. The sales rep is gonna have a fit when his/her boss looks over their quarterlies :-)

    • Scoot

Get ACTIVE, and us your voice as a weapon against these companies. Let’s put our Freedom of Speech to use!

Call them, and they can’t send you a canned response letter through email.

  • punisher55

Where are the conservative organizations , why are they not calling for a conservative boycott of these companies ?? where are the conservative leaders on this? If the libs can blackmail Beck they can blackmail anyone else they choose .

    • Sully

      Good question… they’re selling books.

I called Best Buy corporate office today to complain to them, and the receptionist hung up on me when I told her what my opinion was on this issue. Unreal.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat12104&type=page

I also called State Farm corporate, and the person I talked to in PR, didn’t have a clue who Van Jones was, and said their ads were misplaced when aired during Glenn’s show.

    1-309-766-2311

I did get to tell both of these companies that, by doing this, they are supporting a Communist organization (colorofchange.org) instead of the American people. They didn’t have anything to say as a comeback with that being said.

Let these corporations know how you feel, but call them. Talking to someone on the phone is a lot more personal than a freaking email.

I’m calling CVS on Monday when the PR guy is back in the office.

    • Scoot

And…make sure to tell them you are a member of ACTIVE, The American Constitution and Capitalism Defense Front, and there are over 1,100 members in our organization with ties to numerous other organizations that support our position.

Let them know there are a shitload of us out there that will not buy from them.

  • Matt in GA

Let’s start visiting these companies. Stand outside their offices in front of employee entrances.

  • Ivan the Kafir

misplaced, my ass. this reeks of discrimination. that’s right, go ahead and discriminate against the white male. his life is worthless and as long as you bow and scrape at the feet of the god of PC, you won’t even have to feel ashamed.

    *puke*

  • fas1776

This boycott is long overdue, lets get serious and hit them where it hurts,We will not buy anymore liberal products,Remember Apple is no good either,Al Gore sits on their board.

  • Lock and Load

“Progressive Insurance representative Cristy Cote said… Progressive tries to “avoid programing that we believe our customers and potential customers might find extremely offensive.”

Well guess what bitch, I find you and your libtard company and ads extremely offensive, so you will never see a dollar of my business, and I will advise others to avoid you like the plague

  • Mark Gibbons

Gun companies should be buying those spots. An hour of weapons advertising would be deadly.

  • Xcrypto

Just go shopping and fill your cart with Procter & Gamble products … then leave. Encourage all your friends to do the same. We’ve done this at Wal-Mart and local stores that refuse to open more check-out lines. (It shouldn’t take longer to check-out than it does to shop…after all that’s where they make the money; at the check-out.)

  • http://papaswamp.blogspot.com Papa Swamp

WalMart responded to my letter stating they have pulled advertising from all “polarizing” cable news shows…we’ll see.

    • rowdyone

WalMart supports the health care reform.

  • Hawkerdriver (Pisson the Koran

Wal-Mart supports acorn. I don’t have the link but saw it here a month ago. :gun:

  • Moriah

Just like Savage said when the UK banned him: “First they came for Savage and you were silent,” and lookey here, it didn’t take long for “them” start to coming for the rest of them. There’s something VERY WRONG when someone in the POTUS administration starts going after people who speak out or criticize the POS. This is basically the State going after its detractors just like the Soviet Union did( still does.) WHERE’S THE F*CKING OUTRAGE?

    • puck30

It is strange, These high profiled conservative talkers that were mute during Savage & now are mute again with Beck.

Something is not passing the smell test here.

  • minutemant01

Sunday I heard some really great radio commercials for guns. I mean they sent shivers up my leg! If they would put those to film, and put them on Fox news, they’d have enough business to replace the automobile industry we just nationalized.

  • puck30

Seem this boycott might not work out soo well for the
    socialists on other cable channels.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/19/is-there-really-a-boycott-of-glenn-beck/

Have to say I am puzzled by Wal-Mart, don’t they realize they are now sleeping with the enemy?

“Addendum: I have to say I’m puzzled by Wal-Mart’s acquiescence in this boycott. It’s not Beck fans who picket their stores, demanding unionization and demonizing them for their employee compensation policies. They’re appeasing the same people who want to drive them out of business.”

    :gun: :gun: :gun:

  • puck30

Here’s how a little can help, Every year I go to Wal-Mart for new specs. But a quick check over at…

    http://www.defendglenn.com/advertisers.php

I see that Pearle Vision is on the support list. Well guess where I’m going Friday? And after that I’ll stop at Red Lobster for lunch.

I just have to post the unbelievable cop-out answer I received from Geico after e-mailing them about their decision. Was it for business or political purposes? You be the judge!

Thank you for your interest in this matter.

Last week we took action to move our marketing messages from the Glenn Beck show and you are wondering why.

    Well, you deserve an answer.

If the nature of the comments on a program overshadows our message and causes GEICO to be drawn into a national debate, we are likely to reconsider where we place our marketing messages, which is what we did.

GEICO delivers very important messages through its major marketing campaigns: we’re saving customers’ dollars, we’re easy to do business with, we’re looking out for our policyholders. That’s what we hope the public hears and sees and focuses on.

As a company, we do not take positions on controversial issues.

As an advertiser, while a national debate on issues can be healthy and appropriate, we don’t see ourselves in the role of taking part in those debates

Our business is auto insurance. We want to bring people value and we attempt to reach large audiences with that message.

It is of little benefit to us if a program gets so much attention that our message is drowned out.
