Wanna Hear A Joke? Obama To Commit Billions To Offshore Drilling… In Brazil

Zing!

The Wall Street Journal:

You read that headline correctly. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration is financing oil exploration off Brazil.

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

The U.S. Export-Import Bank tells us it has issued a “preliminary commitment” letter to Petrobras in the amount of $2 billion and has discussed with Brazil the possibility of increasing that amount. Ex-Im Bank says it has not decided whether the money will come in the form of a direct loan or loan guarantees. Either way, this corporate foreign aid may strike some readers as odd, given that the U.S. Treasury seems desperate for cash and Petrobras is one of the largest corporations in the Americas.

But look on the bright side. If President Obama has embraced offshore drilling in Brazil, why not in the old U.S.A.? The land of the sorta free and the home of the heavily indebted has enormous offshore oil deposits, and last year ahead of the November elections, with gasoline at $4 a gallon, Congress let a ban on offshore drilling expire.

The Bush Administration’s five-year plan (2007-2012) to open the outer continental shelf to oil exploration included new lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. But in 2007 environmentalists went to court to block drilling in Alaska and in April a federal court ruled in their favor. In May, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said his department was unsure whether that ruling applied only to Alaska or all offshore drilling. So it asked an appeals court for clarification. Late last month the court said the earlier decision applied only to Alaska, opening the way for the sale of leases in the Gulf. Mr. Salazar now says the sales will go forward on August 19.

This is progress, however slow. But it still doesn’t allow the U.S. to explore in Alaska or along the East and West Coasts, which could be our equivalent of the Tupi oil fields, which are set to make Brazil a leading oil exporter. Americans are right to wonder why Mr. Obama is underwriting in Brazil what he won’t allow at home.

Soros just traded millions of shares of Petrobas.

    • Hardball1911

Which is precisely why these taxpayer funds will go to Brazil to help them explore. Soros’ Socialists (read that “The SS”) must have their investments give a good return or their purchases of the United States government will be as much a losing proposition as it is for every honest tax payer out there. We couldn’t have that, now could we?

Hell no, the SS and their henchmen must be able to economically control every citizen, or their plan to socialize the country will be kaput. I would have never thought that such an evil person could make himself so rich off of the blood of others, and still be able to sell the lie that American corporations are the evil ones. Have you ever heard a liberal scream bloody murder over one of Soros’ funded undertakings? Yeah, me either. It’s always companies like Haliburton who, by the way, distributes more food and infrastructure around the globe to the needy than any other entity including any government one could name.

Soros is a target. His wealth is a target, and we must make him bankrupt and poor. Oh, speaking of making people bankrupt, has anyone paid attention to the fact that the Swiss are now forcing the turnover of secret bank information about their clients to the IRS? Do you think any of Soros’ information is included? Take a look at the list of clients that are targeted, not one is a liberal democrat. Wonder why? It’s called “killing the oppositions funding”.

This one is close to home for me….my husband looks at that scenery in that picture for weeks at a time…the oil production in the Gulf of Mexico is our bread and butter.

Not just us of course but the entire Gulf region depends on this for survival.

Who’s funding these environmentalists that are blocking drilling? The Saudis? The Russians?

    • tlk

Can’t name the ultimate source but just about all of the leftist groups are funded through the Tides Foundation – big contributors are Peter Lewis (progressive insurance), Herbert & Mary Sandler, Soros, Steven Bing (hollywood producer)…more but these are the big ones.

No surprise here. Follow the money and it leads right back to the person who helped finance the coup of 2008- George Soros. The uninformed are going to begin waking up (if they haven’t already) to the nightmare they elected.

    • Lone Wolf

The problem with the uninformed is that by definition they will draw the wrong conclusions and identify the wrong solutions, except by accident.

  • Scoot

That’s our money he is using to create jobs in Brazil.

This shit has got to stop soon. Very soon.

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

your right Scoot, it HAS to stop! Like I said before, I will be out of work in the American Oil Sector like all the rest of the unemployed in America thanks to the Socialist FUCK! It all boils down to the usurper trying to force true Americans to submit, which will never happen in this day and age. I would rather die than leave our children to a socialist country!

wake up people and start becoming ACTIVE before it is too late because when that time comes, you will be sucking on the usurpers tit.

I came right out and asked Jim DeMint in an online Townhall yesterday – isn’t it true that George Soros and his cohorts control our country today?

Then I asked …how did the Republican Party allow ACORN to be come more powerful than they are?

    He didn’t answer me.

  • Sully

This story came out a week ago in the financial news.
It should be huge but there’s zero investigative journalism in the world.
Petrobras is the LAST company on the planet in need of money. They’re likely a cover ‘pass-thru’ for somebody getting paid off for something.

    • tlk

I did read about it a few days ago.

You’re probably right about the pay off..

Still wondering where all the news is about the Chavez/Ayers drug cartel and the Honduras connection.

Another question I asked DeMint about.

    • tlk

Honestly I’m more frustrated with the Republicans right now that the Sleezocrats..I expect them to be the disgusting sewage that they are but why aren’t the others really fighting this with all their might?

      I don’t get it.

  • Professor Bill

This is another means of wealth transfer via keeping us dependent on foreign oil. The money just as easily could be spent in the Gulf of Mexico but that would lead to less dependence. Obambi wants us totally dependent on foreign oil and foreign food.

Most people don’t know it but the Central Valley of California. which produces 1/3 our entire countries food is under totally assault from the environmentalists. George Miller has said that the farmers here are farming illegally, whatever that means. They want to export our food production to the third world. Can you imagine being dependent on foreign food? Insanity.

  • March

    Insane.

  • GRIZZ

Did dipshit borrow this money from the chinese too?

    • March

      You know he did.

This asshole is acting just like a college kid who’s had his first credit card show up in the mail.

He’ll have it maxed out in no time with no idea how he’s going to pay the bills.

      We’re fucked right now.

    Total loan is $10 billion.
    http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=340859&CategoryId=10718

Soros on amazing blind luck just so happened to pump $811million (the largest of his Hedgefunds holdings) into Petrobras. Why not it is now backed by a US loan….

    Bend over America!

  • cocorico

after the “green” oil, now the “black” oil

didn’t Lula make a joke on the blue eyes ?

it will be anyway cheaper to drill there than around the bubba shrumps sources

  • Mark Gibbons

    2010 might not matter.

  • YERMOM

    how is this not treason?

    • Sully

      It is treason.
The guy responsible for prosecuting the crime is the guy committing the crime.

  • Tom in CO

    It’s cheaper in Alaska.

  • tlk

It’s ok. After we round up these bastards and put them in those camps that they built for themselves we will drill to high heaven.

  • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

to hell with putting them in their own camps, deport their asses to another country (like ummm, AFRICA) so that we do not spend our hard earned tax dollars supporting them behind bars! They are ALL crooks, and we should start with the usurper himself and end with the FIBBER, GIBBS!!!!
