Politico”:

ACORN filed suit today in Maryland against conservative filmmakers James O’Keefe, Hannah Giles and conservative Web site Breitbart.com for secretly taping the organization’s employees at its Baltimore office.

In the complaint, ACORN alleges that the filmmakers entered into the organization’s offices in July with a “hidden camera and microphone” and taped employees Tonja Thompson and Shera Williams. Both employees are listed as plaintiffs on the complaint, filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.

ACORN is seeking $500,000 for each employee and $1 million for the organization in damages.

Any Legal Eagles out there?..If those bozos @ acorn due file suit, don’t the open themselves up to more scrutiny via a motion of discovery?… They might very well rue the day the went forward with this.

    hahaha!!

I’m not a lawyer, but from what I understand ACORN was operating in Maryland illegally as they were not in good standing w/MD and they had their authority to do business in Maryland forfeited as of Nov 16, 2006 and again on Nov 14, 2008. Anyone can access this from the State of Maryland Dept of Assessments and Taxation website:

Unfortunately, the people’s republic of maryland has a wiretap law that requires the consent of all persons who are taping and being taped. More unfortunately, the case will be tried in baltimore city before a jury, but not of the peers of O’Keefe and Giles. Their best hope is that their attorney requests a change of venue based on the publicity generated by this story and the case is sent to a Conservative county.
Even more unfortunately, the states attorney, patricia jessamy, may want to prosecute them criminally.
The truth is that these two young heroes should get a Pulitzer Prize.

One thing I heard Breitbart say about it, and I agree with him.

“Bring it on. I relish the discovery.”, referring to the discovery of information should it go to trial. Corrupt organizations like ACORN operate in secrecy, and bringing how they operate out in the open will be far more damaging to ACORN (and who knows how many politicians and public figures) than to Breitbart or the 2 journalists.

    Bring it on, indeed.

Greta Van Susteren was almost ecstatic last night, saying ACORN was stupid to do this, as the discovery process would force them to reveal records (upon request) that may do serious damage to the criminal enterprise. YEAH!!!
