    Those Now Gone

    Fallen Servicemen,
    for country fought;
    liberty, freedom,
    the primary reason.

    They gave themselves,
    that we be free

    Fathers, mothers,
    sisters, and brothers;
    our dearly departed,
    life for country given.

    Families broken,
    for liberty.

    Veterans who served,
    and lived to tell;
    the horrors, and risks,
    now sleep in peace.

    Served their country,
    for our security.

    Unknown Soldier, MIA,
    remembrance our way,
    to honor you as well,
    victims of a warriors hell.

    Served, now lost that,
    our lives be free.

    Sleep now Sleep tight
    rest now, duty done,
price paid in life or death.
    The vigilance now be ours.

    (Roger W. Hancock)

    (Lyrics)

    Day is done,
    Gone the sun,
    From the lakes
    From the hills
    From the sky,
    All is well,
    Safely, rest,
    God is near.

    Fading light,
    Dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky
    Gleaming bright,
    From afar,
    Drawing, near,
    Falls the night.

    Thanks and praise,
    For our days,
    Neath the sun
    Neath the stars
    Neath the sky,
    As we go,
    This, we, know,
    God is near.

I lost my mother when I was a kid. Painful cannot begin to describe it. You had him for many years, be grateful for that, through your grief.

Grieve your heart out, but do not grieve as one who has no hope. You will see him again. We know how this story ends.

  • Ji

Your Dad brought you up right.

This man, part of a disappearing generation, saved the lives of my parents, offered them a future and therefore, I was born.

Fully aware of this for many years but even clearer since the past 8 years, I salute him.

Loosing a parent makes you aware of the fact that “home” is gone deffinitly and…..you’re not/never a child anymore/again.

I’m sorry for your loss Pat. But, let’s celebrate what his life brought being a WWII-warrior………FREEDOM. Let’s not forget.

Richard and Pat. I lost my father-in-law who was also a WWII vet, on Saturday morning. May God hold you in his arms.

  • nospyme

Sorry for your loss Pat. I would love it if he could get into Arlington National Cemetery. He is without a doubt worthy of burial there, unlike f’in Teddy Kennedy…

You ought to tell his story, with his take on obambi and friends. Besides being a slice of history, it might help you in your grieving. (just a thought).

    All the best.

Pat, so sorry to hear of your loss… my prayers go with you and yours.
That generation of heroes has mostly passed on, and we are slowly losing our link to those special people, along with their values and determination that are hard to find today.
I saw a WW II Lancaster bomber flying this weekend, and wondered about the kind of individual who would have flown them into the hell that was the air war over Europe. The old Lanc is still “bound to earth”, but her old pilots and other service members, to quote Reagan, “have slipped the surly bonds of earth” and are in a better place, where war is no more, hatred has passed away, and they can rest in peace.

  • Tom

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Pat. There are no words we can write to take away the pain and hurt of such a loss, but know we do care.

  • vincenzo4

Dearest Brother Pat: My heartfelt love and regards to you brother. I am no strnager to this pain or its loss and pervading yet acclimating to the emptiness that never goeas away.

When I was a little boy, as we ate breakfast my Mother’s only brother disappeared from out apartment on a very wintry sqall snowy Sunday morning. He went down to the front porch of our two-family house to retrieve the newpaper, cld in only jeans, a t-shirt. he never came back from that check and his footprints disappeared as they were followed and the blizzrd worsened. What we now know is PTSD…he snapped, something in that paper or a flashback we will never know.

My uncle was in the Bataan Death March, Korean War, some of early Viet Nam. A private investigator found his remains in an unmarked grave in New York City where he apparently lived homeless for several years.

This is the cost of patriotic fervor, the willingness to give of self for the greater good and multiple secure tomorrows.

In 32 years service and still counting, I have served in a combat zone after voluntarily deploying and I ma proud of that, deliberately walking toward fear and certain death. My comrades came home in boxes, and I have been to a few other funerals at Arlington. The pain never leaves. The ability to manipukate it like a rock in the shoe works the more you move that rock.

Lives, Fortunes and Sacred Honor. Sacred, Honor.

    In blessed humble service
    Vince

    Pat,
Very sorry for the loss of your father. He was part of a fading generation last to know first-hand what it means to sacrifice for Liberty and Freedom, to fight for survival and existence of the United States of America. There is no greater honor to their legacies than for us all to carry-on their torch of Freedom, their arms of Strength, their fight for Peace, their love of Country, most of all their faith in God and good will triumph over evil. Their burden is our responsibility, their sacrifice is our legacy. It is our duty, our honor to carry-on in their names.

God bless you Pat, may you find peace and strength in memories and character of your father.

  • Steve Rogers

    Pat,
Please accept my deepest condolences in this difficult time.

  • Jarhead68

Deepest condolences, Pat, on your loss. Your dad’s service will never be forgotten by true patriots. I lost my dad in ’98. He flew The Hump during WWII. He would be rolling over in his grave, if he could see who’s running the government today.

RIP all the WWII vets and Americans who supported that glorious effort to defeat fascist socialism. We have to defeat it yet again, right here on our shores. Semper Fidelis to our Constitution.

  • ticticboom (Will Kill For The Constitution)

God of our fathers, known of old–
Lord of our far-flung battle line
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
    Dominion over palm and pine–
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

    The tumult and the shouting dies;
The captains and the kings depart:
    Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

    Far-called, our navies melt away;
On dune and headland sinks the fire:
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

If, drunk with sight of power, we loose
Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe–
Such boasting as the Gentiles use
Or lesser breeds without the law–
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard–
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding, calls not Thee to guard–
For frantic boast and foolish word,
Thy mercy on Thy people, Lord!

Pat my best to you family in this time of loss. I am going to guess your transformation to a conservtive view gave your father a sense of peace and pride. I have always appreciated your transformation and now it is clear. No matter how far we stray we all come back home to our true core values that our parents instill in us.

Pat, On behalf of ACTIVE New Mexico,
you have my most sincere condolences and our prayers.

My father, a WWII Veteran passed away several years ago, I still think of him daily. These were tough men, forged from tough times, I thank them all for their contributions to this country.

May you see God’s light on the path ahead
When the road you walk is dark.
    May you always hear,
Even in your hour of sorrow,
The gentle singing of the lark.
When times are hard may hardness
Never turn your heart to stone,
    May you always remember
    when the shadows fall—
    You do not walk alone.

WHY IS A GERMAN PHOTO USED TO PORTRAY A US WWII VETERANS DEATH?

    • ticticboom (Will Kill For The Constitution)

Probably has something to do with the fact Pat has vision problems from IED blast trauma. Although being distraught and posting the first pic he came across is a possibility.

In the mean time, take a deep breath and turn off Caps Lock.

    • NMPatriot

I’m assuming that picture is representative of his mood and tremendous loss, and not meant to be disrespectful.

      Chill

    • http://www.tipjarmusic.com James Hooker, Nipple Whisper

I´ve got no problem with the picture. Back in the day, I toured a lot in Germany playing clubs on American bases. I went on a walk one cold snowy morning and turned into a city gate that I thought was a park, and I was greeted with virtually the same exact sight as the picture Pat posted. It was haunting I gotta admit. I stood there quite a while reflecting that every one of those sumbitches had a mother and she had a boy in the ground. Then I wondered how many of those Germans laying there actually believed in what they fought and died for and how many laying there only picked up the Mauser because,if they didn´t, their ass and their families ass was grass if they didn´t. Sometimes this funny old world ain´t so funny.
      .
Pat, it´s now the 11th as I write this. I hope you´re doing well.
