NewsBusters:

Ill will against former Vice President Dick Cheney still runs high in some circles.

So high, in fact, that when the University of Wyoming decided to name an international student center after him, Suzanne Pelican began circulating a petition against it last year. One year later, that petition has earned 150 signatures and an Associated Press story.

In a story titled “Protest brews over Cheney center at Univ. of Wyo.” AP reporter Mead Gruver writes:

The university’s decision to name the center after Cheney, a former Wyoming congressman, prompted a petition that collected more than 150 signatures.

The petition said polices of the Bush administration were “very controversial” and the name will affect how people perceive the center. Cheney’s support for harsh interrogations — torture, some say — is one reason to oppose naming the center after him, said Suzanne Pelican, who began circulating the petition a year ago.

One hundred fifty signatures in a year? That must be some kind of organizing.

At the Bloomington, Indiana Tea Party I attended on April 15, the organizers got 577 signatures in a matter of hours.

Hat tip to Gay Patriot who comments:

Wow, we got thrice that in an afternoon at a Tea Party in Santa Monica, one of the most left-wing bastions in the Golden State. And we didn’t have a an AP report from that grassroots protest leading Yahoo!’s news.

As they say in Wyoming: Get a rope, let’s have a hangin’! After that we can have a BBQ at the Dick Cheney Student Center for International Studies.

Love it, expertus! My God, 150? 150??? That’s quite a crowd, quite a consensus, lol. This is what mob rule really is and why calling US a democracy is a misnomer. A democracy is when a handful of people can infringe upon the rights of millions. 150????

wow. i could sign 150 ‘donald duck, mickey mouse and goofy the dog’ signatures in under an hour. Just like ACORN. Seems to me that some people like what Cheney has to say. Hell, my dad was in his graduating class.

UW has an enrollment of over 13,000 students. That means that this Pelican couldn’t even get all the baristas at the libtard coffee houses to sign. Being way generous on the math means that two in every thousand are opposed. Highly newsworthy.
“Protest brewing”. What? That would be like me hosting the Dollard nation for the super bowl and asking you all to share one Coors Light(12 oz.)
In 2007 Dick and Lynne Cheney donated $1,800,000 to the UW international/studies abroad foundation. That sum was matched by the state of Wyoming. They are therefore responsible for generating $3.6 million for that program.
I would guess that naming in international studies center after him seems fair.
But don’t get your hopes up Dick, that Pelican could have 165 signatures by 2012.
