Tens Of Thousands Rally Against Corruption In DC To Protest Spending, Lies

Taxpayer Rally

WASHINGTON – Thousands of people marched to the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, carrying signs with slogans such as “Obamacare makes me sick” as they protested the president’s health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.

The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. People were chanting “enough, enough” and “We the People.” Others yelled “You lie, you lie!” and “Pelosi has to go,” referring to California congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

Demonstrators waved U.S. flags and held signs reading “Go Green Recycle Congress” and “I’m Not Your ATM.” Men wore colonial costumes as they listened to speakers who warned of “judgment day”—Election Day 2010.

Richard Brigle, 57, a Vietnam War veteran and former Teamster, came from Paw Paw, Mich. He said health care needs to be reformed—but not according to President Barack Obama’s plan.

“My grandkids are going to be paying for this. It’s going to cost too much money that we don’t have,” he said while marching, bracing himself with a wooden cane as he walked.

FreedomWorks Foundation, a conservative organization led by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, organized several groups from across the country for what they billed as a “March on Washington.”

Taxpayer Rally

Organizers say they built on momentum from the April “tea party” demonstrations held nationwide to protest tax policies, along with growing resentment over the economic stimulus packages and bank bailouts.

Many protesters said they paid their own way to the event—an ethic they believe should be applied to the government. They say unchecked spending on things like a government-run health insurance option could increase inflation and lead to economic ruin.

Terri Hall, 45, of Starke, Fla., said she felt compelled to become political for the first time this year because she was upset by government spending.

“Our government has lost sight of the powers they were granted,” she said. She added that the deficit spending was out of control, and said she thought it was putting the country at risk.

Norman Kennedy, 64, of Charleston, S.C., said he wants to send a message to federal lawmakers that America is “deeply in debt.” He said though he’d like everyone to have free health care, he said there’s no money to pay for it.

“We want change and we’re going to get change,” Kennedy said. “I want to see fiscal responsibility and if that means changing Congress that will be a means to that end.”

Other sponsors of the rally include the Heartland Institute, Americans for Tax Reform and the Ayn Rand Center for Individuals Rights.

There were nearly TWO MILLION people in DC at the Tea Party today! We covered the Tea Party for 4 hours today on BTR!

Police estimate 1,200,000 people in Washington D.C. for this, ABC estimated 2,000,000. I was there, it was simply amzing. :gun:

    • Bobby E

Thank you so much for being there, Bob … and for your service.

    • Rocky Mtn1776

Bless all of the patriots who went to the cesspool that Washington has become. If this isn’t a wakeup call, more extreme measures may be needed. A damned shame our illustrious leader and his idiot sidekick got out of Dodge when they knew we were coming.

Any trouble out of ACORN or any of the other hate groups?

    • Bob USMC

Thanks so much for your comment about my service, it’s ALWAYS appreciated, and was heard manytimes both Friday and today! But I did absolutely nothing special as Washington, DC is my hometown, and I still live somewhat near there. The ones who came from much farther away and on their own dime deserve our gratitude. :gun:

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

well, here is the gratitude from all of us in the middle east to you, Bob, and to all of those that went and represented us as well!

And, I appreciate your humility, Bob. It’s still no small matter that you took the time even though you reside there, but you are right about the travellers. Soros didn’t help me make my trip to a Rolling Thunder/Gathering of Eagles rally two years at great expense to me, so I was simply amazed at the turnout yesterday. It’s not that I didn’t believe in our resolve, but it’s so much easier to make the local, in-state rallies. Even JFK spoke of Americans as doing the things that are hard, not easy or expedient. There will be a lot more flak to weather in the days and months ahead, but these rallies bolster my confidence we will rescue a country on the brink of darkness.

    • Robin

Viewing the photos has renewed my hope and given me strength. Thank you, Bob, for your part in Service and for attending yesterday. God Bless America!

  • Bobby E

HOORAH! … HOORAH! … HOORAH! I am so proud of those who could make it and sorry that I couldn’t. But, if Washington doesn’t get the message, there will be 5 million next time meaning business. If that happens, I aim to be there. Thanks to all of you who went and represented all of US. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is what it means to be an American … God, I am in tears now for not being part of it, but more importantly for such as these that I call countrymen.

  • Ernest T. Bass

I’m glad ABC gave a truthful estimate…I’m anxious to see what the others give… “a handful of protesters”..anyway    to the patriots that were able to be there…. I’m with you in spirit.

    • Howard

Actually ABC issued a clarification saying only thousands of people were there. THEY WERE NOT TRUTHFUL!

Here is the release of their clarification.

      http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/protest-crowd-size-estimate-falsely-attributed-abc-news/comments?type=story&id=8558055

PEOPLE WHERE EVERYWHERE. Every age. Parents made an effort to bring their young children. That was the best part for me.

For ACTIVE members, I have posted a report at the New Hampshire state group. Please contact me over there to join.

      https://accdf.com/groups/new-hampshire-state

I was amongst a bunch of people from New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts who traveled in for the event. Every spot of grass where someone could stand was filled. You could see the spaces to the sides of the Capitol were also filled. We were in front of the building on the left looking in, all the streets were also filled. This doesn’t include the people who surrounded the reflecting pool and stretched along the mall from the Capitol to the Washington Monument.

I spoke with a police officer and he said that the crowd estimates “would exceed expectations.”

Quite the show! The signs were very creative. Everything was very orderly.

We met people from IL, AZ, CA, SC (90 buses — 90*50 people per bus = 4,500 people), OH, FL, TX all over the place. They announced 45 states were represented including Alaska and Hawaii. The organizers had people text to a number somewhere and try to use that as a way to count attendees.

I wonder if the “pictures from the sky” will ever be published.

Quite the show. ONLY THE BEGINNING!!

  • Bob

I just watch the NBC and CBS evening news. They were pretty good about the size of the crowds. Obama will speak with them tomorrow.

  • NY Nick

A “Community Organizer”,the American people have elected the equivalent of someone who can get a block party together.

The last superpower on this planet is headed by some dweeb who(hopefully) won’t mess up where the dunk tank goes.

How have we gotten to a place where the American people elect a clown such as this?

    Anybody can be president.

    • Xavier

If you control the media you control the minds of the people and can do anything (or at least try).

    • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

because we as a people cannot verify the votes and the electoral college (to see if they are accurately reflecting the people or voting on their own) so we as a people have been dependant on the media to report accurately and we all know who controls the media…which is why this natural born kenyan won!!!! ALL should be tried for TREASON in a war time environment which means either life behind bars (in solitude) or death!!!

  • Nanny

God Bless all those who are there in body. I could not as my husband is having surgery. But we will be there for the next one because I don’t think the politicians in Washington will get it – even with the numbers they are reporting. We have to get rid of the current members of the press who will not report the truth. We need the two young reporters who broke the ACORN story. We need to get rid of main stream media and then the REAL truth will come out!!! To the patriots that made the trip to DC – GOD BLESS all of you for taking the time and effort to show Washington that we mean business. Even if it was 1 million in bodies on the ground there are millions who were following and support you 1000%. Thank you America for telling these politicians if they shove it down our throats in 2009 we will shove it up their ass in 2010!!!!

    • Bobby E

Unfortunately, Nanny, Michelle Malkin is reporting that the Baltimore D.A. (stands for dumb-ass as far as I’m concerned), in true Dem-fascist fashion will put those two intrepid reporters on trial. This will be a long, protracted ‘war’.

The New York Times!!! actually gave a fairly good balanced article (as far as they could) on the day’s activities. Check it out.

I am in DC rollerblading with a sign that reads
    Pat Dollard’s words…

    “When a Dictator takes over
    there is NO announcement!”

    LOTS of thumbs up!!!

  • http://www.accdf.com aboutTObegin

thats why the dictator skipped town to minnesota and pretended he knew nothing of the march on DC! I think he became nervous and thought he was going to be lynched.

    • Bobby E

That’s o.k. All polichickens will skip something that is not in their honor. What we need is for them to pack their bags and leave for good. On Drudge I picked up a few tidbits (can’t stand to listen to him so I read about it) of what Obamunik was saying, but as I said the other day about it’s ‘how’ he says it, his anger is becoming more noticeable. When he comes unglued is when he will committ the errors that will bring about the end of this administration. As no other President has done, because he is not presidential but an instigator, he IS literally picking a fight with the American people.

    • Bobby E

Oh … and thanks to all of you over there, aboutTObegin. We all pray for you and look forward to America’s true son’s and daughters to return to US.

  • Ty

There were also millions marching and watching throughout the rest of the Country as well. We had almost a hundred show up at a Mr. Gatti’s. Fort Worth had over 10,000.

Amazes me how much coverage the “Million Man” march got compared to yesterday. Actually, no it doesn’t.

  • MDVet

Like BobUSMC I am local to DC so made no great sacrifice to be there…however I could not have lived with myself, nor called myself a patriot had I not gone.

This is the 2nd “tea Party” rally I have attended, and one of the things that sticks out is the genuine politeness and consideration the attendees show each other. No pushing and shoving, and if someone accidentally bumps you they immediately apologize.

I wonder what the crowd is like at a “donkey” rally.

    Anecdotal story:

Upon boarding the Metro after the rally, I sat down next to a very pregnant young 20 something woman. Seeing our Gadsden flags (there were 3 of us), she inquired where we had been. I replied, trying to be clever, “we were getting our free health care.” She replied, “oh I heard something about that… I hope it happens soon.” No further conversation with her ensued…lol. So many young people still don’t get it :!: :!: :!:

I was genuinely concerned that despite the promotion by Glen Beck and other prominent patriot groups, that the event was be a flop with meager (40K to 60K) attendance. Well, I guess we know now that this isn’t just a few irate bumpkins, but the beginning of a true revolution against big marxest government.

Thanks to all those who made a considerable sacrifice of their money and time to show the lame, so called leadership of this country that we won’t be silent anymore.

  • cclezel

YankeeMom, it was a pleasure to have seen you yesterday. What a memorable day folks an done I will never forget. We made history anbd the American people are now wide awake. According to Park POlice tehy estimated the crowd at 2.1 million. It was truly an inspiring event and I look forward to many more.

  • http://www.myspace.com/methushelah Demogorgon

I knew there were a lot of people there (in Washington) yesterday but WOW!

I had no idea how many until I came home and saw the video at Erik’s other 912 blog post (Aerial View Of The DC March…).

My conclusion: Yes we can… ultimately do whatever might have to be done to bring this particular ‘government’ of pathetic, parasitic, and malevolent… mental midgets down. We really DO outnumber them!

“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

    – Winston Churchill

  • copperpeony

I was in awe at the crowds. Just think how many never went to DC and were there in spirit. This display of patriotism just motivates us to do more as far as getting rid of this administration.

WND has some amazing videos: http://www.wnd.com/

Especially since Obama said “they won’t stop us”.

  • DTOM

    Just got back from D.C.

Anyone have a link to credible estimates?

All, I know is that there were a lot of people!

Seeing the number of people there gave me the sense that we might just have a chance!

  • American Woman

I was there and can say first hand that there were a ton of people. 2.2 million was what I heard and people from DC who were working there kept saying this was the biggest event ever, compared only to the civil rights march. But I can also say that for every 1 person there, there are at least 10 people who wish they could have been there. Imagine that!!!
People came as far as Hawaii and Alaska.
I love my country and have always been proud to be an American. yesterday was the most amazing day of my life, I became so overwhelmed during the national anthem I could not control my emotions and looked beside me to see an older man former marine and noticed we both had tears rolling down our faces, we embraced sharing an amazing moment that will forever bond us two strangers in love of country. The sound of millions of people singing was an experience to rich for words. I have goose bumps just thinking about it as I type this. After the daily attacks by the communist in chief I left there feeling renewed and refreshed to fight this fight even more than before, I made new contacts and friends and so did the rest of the 2.2 million. This is just the begining and they know it. Obongo flew his helicopter over the crowd and circled around on his way out of town. He knows and his speech that day reflects it.
“If you misrepresent what’s in the plan, we will call you out.” basically if you reveal whats in the bill we will call you out as a liar and destroy you is what he is saying. He is in full manipulation/campaign mode and so is the media. We are living history in the making folks.

  • B. A.

It was an amazing experience. To be in a crowd that huge, and not one act of violence says a lot about the true american patriots. I’m going a little off topic here, but Mr. Dollard you need to check out this article coming out of Canada. It’s about the 2008 ” alleged ” election fraud. Please go to http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/14583. You may be aware of it already, if not, please check it out. As a matter of fact everyone needs to read it. Thank you.
