August? What August?

Politico:

Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”

The note was a follow-up to Ensign’s questioning at the markup.

I don’t want this…I DON’T WANT THIS! Stop trying to foist this lying travesty on me. I am a free man. I don’t want to be a slave or ask “by your leave” of any man. I refuse to live in the pocket of my neighbor or have him live in mine in the name of “health care” or “social justice”. The only person’s “skin in the game” of my life should be my own. I will rise or fall on my own merits. Why is this so hard to understand by those purporting to act on my behalf? I can only assume based on abundant evidence that they intend to enslave me for the benefit of their self-aggrandizing power schemes, and that in the end to justify their existence as political parasites and leeches. I have a deep burning anger at these people.

Too bad Ensign screwed himself out of all credibility. No one will pay any attention to anything he does or says any more… sad.

Welcome to the all new and improved Debtor’s Prison!!

So, if you do not have/want to spend the $1900 (per person per year) you will go to prison and get fined $25,000 and become a ward of the state? Prison laundry must pay pretty well if you are going to come up with $27,000 while in the slammer.

Socialism is inevitably authoritarian. Freedom and socialism are incompatible. I can get erudite and quote F.A. Hayek (author of “The Road To Serfdom” and “The Fatal Conceit”), but you get the point.
