As usual, the physical length, not the weight, may be the issue for B-1. That the B-2 has to be modified to carry BGU-57 may not be completely accurate- they are still adding other weapons for the B-2. It still has not been tested with a large variety of ordnance that the B-52 has carried for years. But this is just SOP for the new bomber. Right now I'd like O to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan if he's not interested in any victory but his and not be trying to start a war with Pakistan and Israel. Otherwise, you are correct ... deterrence is a sound policy if you aren't abandoning defense spending everywhere else including back-stabbing our European allies.
