What Should Have Been Said To America’s Children

“Pick a goal,†the President said, “Work hard. Succeed.†Some people were surprised that his speech to America’s school kids sounded almost conservative.
We say, “Of course, he needs to inspire success.†He knows his socialist paradise depends on a rich, successful minority to support the poor, oppressed majority.
Nevertheless, we wish he would have told America’s kids this story, apocryphal or not:
An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student, but had once failed an entire class.
The students in that class had insisted that socialism was the perfect political system since it’s a great equalizer and assures that no one will be poor and no one will be rich.
“If you really believe that,†the professor said, “Let’s bring socialism to this classroom. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade.â€
After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone received a B. The students who had studied hard were upset while the students who had studied very little were happy.
When it came time for the second test, the students who had studied very little for the first one studied even less and the ones who had studied hard decided that since they couldn’t make an A, they also studied less.
When it came time for the second test, the students who had studied very little for the first one studied even less. The students who had studied hard now realized they couldn’t get an A, so they also studied less.
The average grade on the second test was a C. No one was happy.
When the third test was given, no one studied and the average grade was a D.
As the quarter went on, the students’ scores never increased as bickering, blame and name calling resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else.
Much to the students’ surprise, everyone failed.
On the last day of class, the professor said, “Let this be a lesson to you. Socialism will always fail because it’s against human nature.â€
“Capitalism succeeds because people are willing to work harder to increase their rewards,†he added. “And socialism fails because no one will tries or succeeds when the government takes away all the rewards.â€
Yup, that’s what the President should have told ‘em.
