    Yon is awesome.

    I don’t necessarily think it’s our responsibility to “fix” Afghanistan, and it’s been “broken” since before Alexander the Great anyway. They harbored Bin Laden and now they pay the price for it. But we do need to do what we can to ensure it doesn’t become an Al-Qaeda refuge again.

    How about we just carpet-bomb Afghanistan with electric generators, satellite dishes, laptop computers, iPods, WiFi, and all the other technological instruments of Western cultural depravity, and let it simmer for a decade or three?

    Meanwhile we maintain a couple of megabases to launch Whack-A-Mole ops on the Taliban, and keep pressure on Iran and Pakistan as a side benefit.

    Not that it would solve all the problems, but it would undermine the power of Islam to keep Afghanistan in the 13th century, and give us a presence in the region to do whatever else is needed.

    Just a thought. Ideas?

      Creating an unbroken sheet of radioactive molten glass from the Persian Gulf all the way to Pakistan would make a that whole part of the world much easier to deal with.

    Afghanistan? As long as politicians try and envision a “clinical” over seas contingency, the taliban will prosper, islamic radicals will prosper, the American body count will prosper. obama will gleefully orchestrate this.
