ACTIVE: Patch Design Needs Some Opinion

October 27th, 2009 (66) Posted By Hardball1911.

Keep the comments strictly about the design, not desires to see work put in elsewhere, etc. There are plenty of people working ACTIVE behind the scenes trying to ensure that nothing is missed. A HUGE thank you is due to those who are putting effort and time into our cause. It is more important than any one of us can imagine.

If you like a design, say so, if you don’t, say so. The main thing to remember is that the logo is what it is, and will not be changed for the patch, which puts certain limitations on the visual the patch gives. The red ACTIVE A will remain, even on the subdued patches. It needs to be so.

Three options at present. A blue background option will be presented soon. Please excuse the poor photoshops. These are preliminary rough drafts for visual reference only. Just imagine them as final embroidered patches.

Option 2 AND Option 3 are great! Great work Hardball!

  • stiggy

the one thing that instantly comes to mind when i see these designs is the german iron cross. while this symbol was in existence in germany long before hitler and his nazis rose to power i think it is most associated with this time period of nazism. since that type of tyranny is what people at this website are most ardently against, i don’t know if it makes sense to have a symbol that could be mistaken for nazism/oppression/etc be the symbol for a group that seeks freedom for all.
what about using a simple cross, a celtic cross, or another symbol that does not have the potential negative connotations of something so similar in design to the german iron cross?

  • MinneSoCold

Option 3 works best, option 2 would work better if you rotated the patch 45° to a diamond orientation.

  • grumpy mechanic

    Option 3 is cool.

  • Lottie

    # 3 best and only!

  • http://statins.org Imabirther

    3 works for me :gun:

  • Sgsaur

    I’ve like 3 the best.

    • Sgsaur

and now that MSC’s version is up, I like it as well.

  • SC

OK! Why not connect the top and bottom tabs in the middle? Under the “A”., maybe behind the circle maybe over, who knows… NO? I like the 3rd option of the three shown though…

  • muck

the thrird option for sure, for sure

  • Hardball1911

Ok, here’s the “other” question that I didn’t ask but should have…

Do I have one made with a blue background (like is suggested for the shirt color) or stay with the subdued look?

As for me personally, I will reserve my comments until I have a consensus.

  • Evestay

3 is my choice (is the white in the very center supposed to be there?) and I prefer the subdued look.

  • muck

blue background for patch would be cool, me personaly i hate the “foilage green” they use for acu’s and the blue really wouldnt stick too much more than the damn acu colors

  • http://www.accdf.com toldyouso

3 subdued

  • YERMOM

the circle is the most powerful shape there is.

    option three is best.

  • reagan54

I like 3 the best. Subdued with the bright white toned down would be great.

  • RexRedbone

    What is the patch size?

  • TechnicalDeath

I would proudly wear that 3rd patch on my shoulder.

  • nospyme

    Option 3,

but I’d change the grey circle surrounding the white to blue. (Thereby giving a Red A, White background, surrounded by the Blue circle).

Or, keep the inner grey circle/ring, but change the outer edge of the circular patch to flag blue.

  • SgtJenz

3 is preferred. 2 would be good if rotated as MinneSoCold stated.

Subdued is preferred. Blue? Have to see it first.

  • http://HBCIndy.com Dr. Jerry

How about a combo of the patch from #1 and the rocker from #3 in the subdued format? Make the top of the patch and the rocker have the same corresponding shape: So when they are set together they perfectly fit.

(that would kinda have the same shape and appearance of a 1st Cav patch with a Ranger or Airborne rocker, they just fit well together and have a appealing look)

    • http://HBCIndy.com Dr. Jerry

And I certainly like Minnesocold’s version, the color scheme is Primo!

  • BradW (the Infidel)

Hardball, subdued option for all, until ACTIVE starts having jackets and shirts for members to purchase. I like #1 for use on jackets, #2 for hats and #3 for on shirts and/or light jackets. I would gladly wear any or all.

  • Nanny

I like #1 and #3 – maybe a combination of both and would like to see a little blue in there somewhere. I like the subdued green/grey look

  • Storm 0311

I don’t see a reason why you have to pick one.(I guess option 3 I like best but..) Things like this are a form of Heraldry, a way to be picked out.
Heraldry gets used a lot of different ways.

In the back of our brains we are all thinking what BDU jacket or vest we are going to put it on. depending on what Branch or mindset it changes for every person.

Grunts are always going to want subdued colors.
And the style patch’s from whatever uniforms their used to.

  • Bob P

    3 subdued

  • neofish

Wouldn’t mind seeing it on blue. #3 is a winner.

  • Shooter

They are all good, but Option 3 seems to strike my eye. And yeah, I would like to see something in Blue also as I think it would make the red stand out better because green & red are complementary colors. Only other way to get the red to stand out would be to make it a fluorescent background and I don’t think that would quite look right.
    Good Job hardball……….

  • MinneSoCold

I had to try something by rotating the square to a diamond. Then I change it to blue and added a little red.

    http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/4468/accdfpatch.jpg

    • SgtJenz

Darker blue maybe and it’s good to go. Like the diamond.

  • streeter

    Option 3.

I’m guessing most of the commenters have yet to see the Minnesocold blue/red patch added after option 3. That is awesome. I would like to see the subdued option three and the bold MinneSocold.

    • Hardball1911

      MenneSoCold,

You have the helm on the blue #3. :) Not to mention my go ahead to alter it if needed. I’ll post it if you make it. ;)

    • copperpeony

Please don’t hate me for this comment because I mean no disrespect but if you stand about 10 feet from the monitor, Minne’s design tends to look like the Star of David. I think it’s an optical illusion.

  • copperpeony

I like number 3 the best and if you were going to use a blue color anywhere, I would make it the same blue as in the American flag ( a navy), not a bright blue.
Maybe a white stitching around the circle too?

I don’t care for the #1 because it seems unbalanced…too much space on the bottom unless you put the ACCDF in the space and raised the cross.

  • Post Modern Thor

Option 3, thereafter MinneSoCold’s Version

  • ranger75

    Hardball,

Try useing the RANGER REGT. SCROLL that would look cool

    RANGER out

  • cold soldier

I dont want to hurt anyones feelings, can I vote “present” LOL

  • http://www.accdf.com toldyouso

change of vote. really like minnies.

  • Political.fish

Option three makes the best impression, and operational sense (Bright colors are simply an easy target, and the circle defines the logo porportionally).

  • MinneSoCold

Ok, just one more based on some feedback. I think this is a better option than my other:

    http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/5323/accdfpatch2.jpg

    • Post Modern Thor

      Really well done!!

  • MinneSoCold
  • BradW (the Infidel)

Minne, I like it IMHO, but the reasons above still stand as well

  • Steele

Option 3, subdued. It would go well with a “Oath Keepers” patch.

  • muck

    blue circle is perfect

  • Xcrypto

Is it just me, or does it look a bit to “Nazi”? Looks like an Iron Cross.

    • MinneSoCold

The logo is a viking cross battle symbol…
      http://tungelstadailyphoto.blogspot.com/2009/03/viking-cross.html

Now the viking sun cross looks more like a Nazi symbol…
      http://www.truthism.com/images-2/swas-2.jpg

    • tlk

No it isn’t just you. But I’m not going there again.

If you’re determined to keep the iron cross I say go with being bold – the red & blue.

    • GRIZZ

Gimme a patch that looks like tlk’s avatar
I will rule the world thru intimidation

    • copperpeony

      LOL Grizz.

    • YERMOM

you would defiantly be a mean machine my brotha

    • Infidoll

For the record, TLK, I agreed with you then…and agree with you now.

  • MinneSoCold

Alright, I think this is THE ONE. The others I did are fine for t-shirts, but for the patch design, this one works. It’s a mix of option 1 and 3 but a better shield shape. Main patch is navy blue with black edging, ACCDF state patch is black:

    http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/7374/accdfpatch4.jpg

This is subtle yet strong and allows the logo to be bigger on the patch.

    • copperpeony

  The cops will love it!!

    • Big Sarge

      This one gets my vote.

As soon as the new Logo is up and running, I’ll be in line to get it.

    • Post Modern Thor

Geting better all the time!

  • windigo

    3

  • Jeanet

Okay, it’s non of my f*cking business as I’m not American but I go for option 3 but would like it to see on a bleu background in stead of the subdues greyish. Also, I’d like to see the words “God, strength,”-etc. embroided in gold.

Kind of funny as my personal heraldry-shield has the words “Strength, Wisdom and Beauty” in it divided by the Christian cross embroided in gold.

  • politicalfish

    #3, subdued.

  • ji

I dont like the weapons part.
I would prefer something more subtle, but just as effective:Power.
Such as, we are a power to be reckoned with.
I thinks weapons could turn people who dont know us, off.

  • Tom Yaz

I dunno, looks “good” but unfortunately reminds me of the KKK symbol: http://www.adl.org/hate_symbols/groups_kkk.asp

  • Storm 0311

I like the shield shape but I like the tan or green.

  • C-Low

I don’t know about the words.

I think the three pillars of the American society should have been used.

    GOD
    COUNTRY FAMILY

All the pansies efforts are to chip at these pillars when you get down to brass tax and our goals should be the reinforcement and reestablishment of such via policy.

Also maybe on the bottom a 4th “MANY BUT ONE”. This is much of our foundation, America was were many came but after being integrated into being AMERICANS became ONE. Also another target of the pansies is the cutting up of america in opposing groups “salad bowl” mentality which is nothing more than a divide and conquer strategy that guarantees our in-ability to become one and take back over our government.

Not saying a policy of big tent, the platform must be accepted and must be without exception.
