Gingrich Attacks Republicans Supporting Conservative Party Candidate

Gingrich Harvard

The Hill:

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) late Monday had some choice words for Republicans supporting Conservative Party party candidate Doug Hoffman (N.Y.), accusing them of conducting a “purge” of the GOP.

Many national Republican figures, such as Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.) and ex-Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska), have backed Hoffman over GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava in the 23rd district’s special election this year. The district has been long-held by Republicans, but many conservatives have shied away from Scozzafava for her socially liberal positions and the local GOP’s selection process that they say was not transparent.

Gingrich broke the mold and backed Scozzafava, saying her candidacy gave the Republicans the best shot of regaining a congressional majority. The former Speaker faced a push-back from the right after his announcement but he upped the ante on Monday.

“This idea that we’re suddenly going to establish litmus tests and all across the country we’re going to purge the party of anybody who doesn’t agree with us 100 percent; that guarantees Obama’s reelection, that guarantees Pelosi as Speaker-for-life,” he told Fox News last night.

Gingrich called Scozzafava a “liberal Republican” for her support of gay marriage and abortion rights. But he defended those positions as in-step with her district and her predecessor, former Rep. John McHugh (R-N.Y.), who was tapped to be President Barack Obama’s Army Secretary.

But he said that her endorsement from the National Rifle Association, her signing a no tax-increase pledge, and her opposition to cap-and-trade and healthcare reform legislation made her “adquately conservative in an upstate New York district.”

Gingrich also attacked Hoffman for not having proper knowledge of local issues and living outside the 23rd district.

“So I say to my many conservative friends who suddenly decided whether they’re from Minnesota, or Alaska, or Texas, they know more than the upstate New York Republicans? I don’t think so,” he added.

Newt is usually better than this. He is just wrong here. He should see the support of Hoffman not as a purge, but as rank and file Republicans and conservatives supporting the candidate of their choice. In contraast, Scozzafava was the choice of former New York GOP State Chairman Joe Mondello, who has since been replaced by Ed Cox. Newt should be supporting Hoffman, whose views are much, much closer to Newt’s.

Newt isn’t better than this. He’s part of the reason why we always lose our way.

If we continue to wander away from our principles simply to win a short term election we will continually end up with Democrat light types fucking up the direction of this country.

Enough of the Rockefeller Republicans, i.e. RINOS.

They are the minority, not us.

The RINOS muddle the waters and then run as far from the party so they can point the finger at us when people wonder why conservatives have strayed from their values. Talk about trying to have it both ways.

If we stick to our core values and follow through then that is something that I am willing to sink or swim upon.

      Not some RINO bullshit.

      So, fuck Newt.

  • Charlie from New Jersey

Republicans need to stand for the Constitution and the Republic that administers it… not efficient and responsible socialism. Newt got this wrong.

Newt is not the man he pretends to be. Beware! Rush said he was traveling around the country last week with Howard Dean touting the health-care bill. He also made those stupid commercials with Pelosi. He is not a true conservative. Newt had his chance when he was Speaker of the House. Did he push the conservative agenda? No. Instead, he played around. He made lame issues like school prayer the center of his efforts. Look at how the Democrats act when they have the Power! I wish Gingrinch would just go away……..

  • dacoelec

Newt’s jump the shark moment. Go away you pseudo conservative scoundrel! :!:

  • http://patdollard.com Average Joe

It is time for Gingrich and some other RINOs to accidently step in front of a car, a train, or a bus.

Newt has clearly been seduced by The Dark Side.

I was a fan of his for a long time, though I thought he had some pecadillos that would prevent me from voting for him. Was I simply fooled by him, or did he actually have Conservative views and then move away from them?

He seems to be such a contradiction.

Ronnie, where are you when we need you?

Wandered off the res? Not a dumb guy. I would ask the question…what does he know. I wouldn’t class Gingrich as a RINO, that’s reserved for the elite. He’s picking his battle for some reason. Maybe trying to center up for a run. This guys all about the founding fathers. Maybe he’s just trying on his gilly suit.

  • killczar

as a nonenrolled voter newts loathsome statements show the stupidity of beltway repukelicans. they are a heart-corroding subspecies of progressives.

  • Mike

Newt is nothing more than a New World Order bitch whore.
He has bought and paid for by Soros the pimp.
This is a liberal republican and should be treated like that. We need to put his ass on trial as well.

    Steve is on the money.

  • Sgsaur

    Fuck you, Newt(er).

  • Jim D

Newt is also lying! skozzy refused to sign the no tax increase pledge. Hoffman is the only one who publicly signed it.If her name is on it she did it in secret in the last week.

  • Wowster

‘Gingrich broke the mold and backed Scozzafava, saying her candidacy gave the Republicans the best shot of regaining a congressional majority.”

Aren’t Republicans suppose to be CONSERVATE? I don’t see how Hoffman hinders a republican cognressional majority, unless of course the majority attempts to conduct business as usual.

    GO HOFFMAN

i’m a upstate New York Republican. I support Doug Hoffman.

  • pete

Hey Newt, tell us what it’s like up there in Bohemian Grove?

  • Bobby E

He just wants a piece of the pie that’s being baked in Washington.

  • http://www.dirtydozensbunker.com Sanders

Newt’s a double agent for the Dimtards – his actions betray him.

  • Scott

Remember why Newt got out of politics? He was bashing Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal while married and banging one of his staffers ala David Letterman. I’ve had my fill of Newt, time for new TRULY conservative leadership.

  • Kentucky Jim

According to Newt and the National Republican Congressional Committee if we give our contributions to them to give to a particular race somewhere else in the country we are good little citizens, but if we give our contributions directly to the conservative candidates of our choice, we are improperly interfering with a local process. Hypocritical dickhead.
