Hotel Owner Tells Hispanic Workers To Change Their Names

    While I don’t necessarily agree wtih the fact of wanting the manager/owner to change the employees names to more “American” names, I know that the company for Western Union customer service does the same thing.

    We recently had an issue with a wire transfer and made nearly a dozen calls to Western Union CS. Every individual had thick Indian accents, and was confirmed they were located in Indian in six conversations, yet they all had names such as Bob, Mary, Michael, etc….

    On the last call, I did ask if that was their real name or their nick name, and it was admited that was their “nick name” at work.

    This is nothing new.

    I got caught in the Kafkaesque hall of mirrors known as Dell Customer Service. Every Indian “Andy”, “Joan”, “Jared(1)”, and “Mike” proved as competent to solve my problem as a box of instant rice.

    Then, I got connected with a lady named “Swatee”. No pretense. She went by her real name. She also had the issue resolved within about 3 minutes, then called back several days later to ask if my credit card had in fact been properly credited back.

    Odd, to say the least.
