ACORN Missing Money

NEW YORK (AP) – ACORN has filed a lawsuit claiming that Congress violated the Constitution when it passed a law cutting off federal funding to the organization.

The Center for Constitutional Rights filed the lawsuit on ACORN’s behalf Thursday in Brooklyn federal court. It claims the law was unconstitutional because it punitively targeted an individual organization.

Messages for comment left at the White House and the federal agencies named in the suit were not immediately returned.

ACORN, short for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, portrays itself as an advocate for the poor and minorities.

The group’s CEO, Bertha Lewis, says she underestimated the impact of the Congressional action. She says state, local and most private funds have been cut off as well.

    How f’in stupid is ACORN. You wanna go to trial and have all your dirty laundry and record keeping brought to the public eye? They should do what every criminal enterprise does in this case: close shope and re-constitute under a different brand. Shit, Pelosi and Reid do it all the time…healthcare reform, er, no insurance reform….it’s not terrorism..it’s man-made disasters.

    That part of the constitution addresses criminal statutes. Congress can not make a law that says members of ACORN automatically go to jail. It DOES NOT mean congress can not cut off funding. The constitution taken as a whole; however, gives congress NO authority to ever provide funds to ACORN or any of the thousands of other purposes and recipients that are on the dole.

    Yeah, if Congress is going to cut funds for one corrupt, criminal organization, it needs to, in all fairness, cut funds to ALL corrupt criminal organizations!

    Bullshit. ACORN is a contractor and congress can pay or not pay them at will. Same as every other group that has a contract with the government.

    ACORN thug honchos must be seething with anger over what happened to them. They were set to get shitloads of money from porkulus alone.

    The constitutional argument made by ACORN is nuts. There is no bill of attainer involved here, just a ocntractor relationship that Congress can terminate. There is, however, a danger that the Democrats in Congress will play a game, wringing their hands about the “strong position” set forth by ACORN in order to backtrack on defunding ACORN.

    Where is Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in this?You cant have a circus without the clowns.We have our first black or half black President in office and this is how some black people are still acting like nothing has changed.Take pride in this President and stop embarassing this man.For every step he takes forward you have people like Acorn setting him back three steps.How patheticaly sad.I sometimes feel sorry for Obama because of these types of people.Help the man,stop hurting him.Peace out.
