After a long weekend of sorting this out with PopModal, the series is being uploaded for release today. It turns out that the files were still too big for PopModal, but they referred me to Blip.tv were the upload is currently in progress. PoPModal is going to run the series as well, from Blip.tv’s embed.

I know this has been a pain in the ass and bummer for everyone, but I assure you, it’s only been a thousand times that for me.

The site will now also continue posting as normal.

Onward and upward….

13:28 Update:

It says it’s still uploading, but hasn’t moved past 55% for nearly two hours…perhaps the whole system is just busier due to time of day….not aborting yet, since the system has not aborted me…

13:48 Update:

I went ahead and aborted, and re-started the upload. Welcome to my nightmare…

16:40 Update:

Alright, we’re at 55%, which is where it crapped out last time. Let’s see if we break clear…

16:49 Update:

DOA. Dead at 55%. Started on its own again, I’m trying two other systems that were referred to me today…it’s starting to seem that this would be faster if I wiould just burn, sell and ship DVD’s…

Jeffers M. Dodge of PopModal has advised me to use a program called Sorenson Squeeze to reduce the size of the video files to get them to upload to Blip.tv.

Throwing objects around the house from time to time is a virtue? Good, I’m in the clear.

Will these episodes be available on DVD? There are those of us who either don’t have access to or cannot afford high speed internet.

      Yes.

Thanks Pat. I hope having to deal with this didn’t screw up your Holiday weekend too much. I don’t think that we out here in Dollard Nation can ever thank you enough for all you do to keep us informed.

Have you tried Blip.tv or Dailymotion.com. Neither has a limit on how long a video can be and it’s free hosting. Blip.tv has a size limit of 1 gigabyte where as Dailymotion.com does not.

I use to use Sorenson Video 3(aka Squeeze 3) then On2 VP6 (Flash Video 8) before I started using Quicktime Pro 7′s h.264/MPEG-4. I will say it should take a damn long time to render an hour long show no matter which program you use, so sit back and have a beer  Quicktime Pro is cheap though, $29.

I’ve been trying to upload to Blip but it keeps crapping out at 55%, so I was going to reduce the file with Sorenson, and hope for no great quality loss. The file is 17 gigs. I’ll also try Daily Motion; thanks for the tip.

    • GF

17 Gigs! Cripes. When rendering footage for the future try changing the data rate to about 2.5 mbits/sec (312 Kilobytes/sec *). This should still deliver great quality for the web when using h.264 and get an hour long program down to about 1.2 Gigs. It’s just an hour per episode right :???:

      * yeah, bits is different from bytes

Pat, have you tried uploading via FTP? I’m assuming you’re using the web uploader. http://blip.tv/dashboard/ftp. That will at least allow you to resume your uploads.

 <—– For you Pat. Hope I get a chance to shake your hand someday and buy a half dozen or so for you.

It’ll all work itself out. Computer programs can be a bitch, so just sit back and take a deep breath.

Don’t know for sure but it may be that their max upload for one file is 8.5 gigs because that’s the size of a single sided dual layer dvd. Kinda makes sense because that would be somewhere around 55% if 17 gigs, ya?
