The media WERE biased for McCain — during the Republican nomination process. They wanted the best punching bag for the liberals. Virtually any Republican could have been beaten by the Hope ‘n’ Change Mob, but the derisive “McSame” had a great ring to it, and his war injuries were almost as much fun as Dole’s to ridicule during the campaign.
The media have given us the joker, and among other marxists, the most malignant cunt, the shrieker of the House.
Reporters were overwhelmingly biased for Obama and acted as propagandists for Obama. When Obama was announced as the winner last November, there was unrestrained celebration by reporters. Yes, they deserve time in hell for what they helped bring about.
At the same time, I have to say, sorry, Zeek, but (i) reporters were not biased for McCain even during the GOP primaries (they did not like McCain’s support of the Iraq War and support of fiscal restraint) and (ii) polls consistently over time showed that of the GOP candidates, only McCain had a chance to win in 2008 against Hillary or Obama — all other GOP candidates were shown in the polls as way behind in a putative national matchup against Obama or Hillary, with Romney the farthest behind. Coming out of the GOP National Convention, the McCain-Palin ticket went into the lead until the “financial crisis” hit. Had the 2008 election been about foreign policy instead of the economy, then not even the biased press for Obama could have stopped a GOP win in 2008. But the 2008 election was not about foreign policy.
What is apparent now was not on the mind of Americans last year during the 2008 national campaign. McCain unwisely pulled his punches about Obama’s ties with radicals, but a lot of other things were going on that made 2008 a bad year for Republicans: (i) a financial meltdown that created economic anxieties that have historically favored the Democrats and did that year; (ii) a Bush Administration financial bailout that muddied the waters of what was a Reaganesque economic message delivered by McCain and Palin on the campaign trail; (iii) the unpopularity of Bush, which is unfair but which is the result of unceasing attack by the Left and Bush not using the bully pulpit to defend his Administration; (iv) money and more money, some of it illegal, that Obama had (how do you beat a 7 to 1 advantage?); and (v) the aforesaid media bias that was absurdly in the tank for Obama and that operated effectively day-in, day-out as a propaganda machine for Democrats (e.g., Obama, the tax cutter).
I personally believe that the GOP must move to be an assertive conservative, pro-military, pro-life fiscally responsible party that defines itself philosophically. I just so happen to believe also that McCain bashing is counter-productive, particularly since this year Mccain’s voting record is as conservative as any and McCain has been a responsible voice in supporting General McChrystal’s Afghan troop request and supporting the Iranian dissidents.
As for the establishment media, though, bash away. They are positioning themselves to be part of Obama socialism in a betrayal of the First AMendment.
The MSM loved McCain as long as he was critical about other Republicans. As soon as he got the nomination, which the MSN championed, they turned on him and supported Obumblehead and the Dems.
They are still covering every Obumblehead misstep.
