Washington Post:

SEOUL — President Barack Obama will not announce his decision on sending more troops to Afghanistan before the Thanksgiving holiday, senior aides said on Thursday.

The news came as the president greeted 1,500 troops at Osan Air Base in South Korea, just before boarding Air Force One and heading back to Washington after an eight-day Asia trip.

Obama and his top military and diplomatic aides have been deliberating for months over how to proceed in Afghanistan, where the United States and its partners have sought for eight years to defeat the Taliban and deny al-Qaeda a safe haven from which it can plan and launch attacks.

Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, has stated that without the deployment of up to 40,000 additional of troops within the next year, the mission “will likely result in failure.” But some aides are arguing for a much smaller troop increase, and the U.S. ambassador in Kabul, Karl W. Eikenberry, has questioned whether the Afghan government can be a reliable partner.

Obama said in interviews Wednesday that he would reveal his decision within the next several weeks. On Thursday, aides clarified that there would be no announcement before Thanksgiving, one week away. Senior administration officials said Obama intends to meet with his national security team again before going public with his plans.

Obama did not mention the looming decision in his remarks to U.S. troops, referring to the Afghan conflict only by thanking South Korea for its efforts and expressing gratitude to the American soldiers who have served there.

But he did discuss the region in his meeting with South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak, whose government has is sending 150 civilian aid workers to Afghanistan.

Obama arrived on the base 3:19 p.m. local time (1 a.m. Eastern Standard Time), and received a rousing welcome from 1,500 troops in camouflage uniforms, many holding cameras or pointing cell phones to snap pictures.

“You guys make a pretty good photo op,” the president said.

Standing on a riser wearing a blue suit and red tie, with a cluster of troops and a large American flag behind him, Obama expressed “the gratitude of the American public” and said his meetings in four countries over eight days in Asia will help deliver a “safer more prosperous world for all of us.”

He got a huge cheer when he told them he was increasing military pay. “That’s what you call an applause line,” he said, before boarding his jet and taking off at 4:11 p.m.

Where’s he going this time to duck the issues of governance (or lack of it because he’s just a fucking hand puppet)?

  • Nanny

I still can’t believe these troops can even shake his hand when he shows up for the photo ops. I would spit on his shoes if I were them!

    • Wilson

eh, cut ‘em a break… that’s easy to say from far away… hard for a young troop to carry out, and would surely ruin his/her career. Not worth it for that scumbag.

    • Tellicorick

I’d whip out Ole Blue and piss all over his Italian loafers, myself!

    • karl anglin

Those troops were under orders to be with Obama!!!

  • ODIN2012

Oh Yes, obama using the troops as his personal tool. Obama is nothing but a freakin pimp and everyone is his bitches. We better fall in line or we’ll feel his pimp hand…

  • trustme1013

I’m sure this pleases the millions of troop-haters in this nation that voted for him.

    What a scumbag.

  • Lock and Load

Yup, that’s about all the commie-in-chief’s troops are worth to him – a chance for a good photo op…. What a pathetic, self-centred dirtbag
I don’t know how much else he has to do before the troops REVOLT en masse. It’s not like he’s even trying to hide his contempt for them :???:

  • MarineDoc

Just another sign that he really believes we are politically and not strategically expendable! The only time we see him is when he is either dodging another issue or apologizing to some other nation.

Meanwhile I am sitting in Iraq doing nothing when I should be in Afghanastan.

    Just truly unbearable!!

I do howver agree with Wilson above. Hard for the younger enlisted to cut against the grain and i am afraid the Chesty’s of the past are not present in today’s military among the high ranking officer corps.

Sad thing watching this train wreck occur!!

    • Nanny

Stay safe and thanks for your service. I realize that spitting on a President would bring the wrath of Jezibell down on a soldier but it sure would be a strong message to this asswipe that not everyone loves him especially those in the military and that would be worth it. Take down a few halos that he thinks are over his head.

    • amy

Marine Doc, Stay safe and please let your fellow soldiers know that we are thinking about all of you and keeping you in our prayers.

    • the friendly grizzly

MarineDoc: first, thanks for your service; this from a 4-year squid who sat in front of short wave radios for his living.

This is off topic but related: what is the re-enlistment rate these days? And the guys who are not re-enlisting, how many are going home because of the present (alleged) Commander in Chief?

MarineDoc, “Chesty’s of the past are not present in today’s military among the high ranking officer corps.”

      So true. It’s almost demoralizing.

I’d drink to that before being labeled a photo-op. When I saw AF1 come into Iraq a few years ago I was excited. If this asshole shows up while I’m in Afghan I’m walking the other way.

    • MarineDoc

Thanks all. Friendly Grizzly – I started out as an enlisted Corpsman and am now on the darkside but respectably as a physician assistant. I do not have the figure at my fingertips on the re-enlistment rates. What I am seeing however are more stringent policies with the sole purpose of creating higher attritions in retainment (i.e. physical fitness standards and the like). What I call a soft forced attrition. I have spent most of my 17 years on the Marine Corps side (green Sailor) and as of recent have a somewhat pulse on what is going on in the Marine Corps Officer community. I can say with certainty that a lot of good Marines are leaving and some have even stated to me that they are leaving to prepare for the worst. Also the political correctness environment has reached a dangerous level and with recent events one has to question who is the enemy among us.
For myself, I am very discouraged. I do my best to educate the men and womwen under my charge and open thier eyes. Teach them about the constitution and what they fight to protect. However, I do find myself as of late sadly assuming the “doing my time till retirment” concept which I am not proud to admit. My only goal now is to teach my subordinates the foundations and principles that this country was built upon and hope for the best!!

      God Bless

  • Moriah

That’s why he needs a teleprompter. He’s an inarticulate idiot when he’s not being prompted with the correct phrasing. Egotistical bastard disgraces the now black house..

  • TerryTate

I’m giving you all a pay raise.

Too bad you won’t be around to enjoy it….

  • amy

Isn’t it funny how he’s ramming socialized health care down our throats and trying to get cap and trade passed asap, but he’s gonna “think” about sending help to our troops for MONTHS!!!!????? Out troops deserve MUCH better.

    • Nanny

      Very Good Point!

  • Ernest T. Bass

time for the troops to get back and carve some “turkeys” @ the 1/2 white house

  • the friendly grizzly

“You guys make a pretty good photo op,” the president said.

I heard that on the radio today, and nearly went through the roof of my car!

I only served for four years and certainly was no hero. But serve I did. That remark has to be about the most insulting, patronizing remark I have ever heard out of the mouth of a President.

    How DARE he!!!

  • Sully

Calling Barry the Nut-Sniffer a scumbag would just make Him horny.

  • Annie

Pay raises?? are you KIDDING ME??? that lying sack of shit will raise the military’s pay when hell freezes over. He thinks they are so stupid that just the promise of some money will win over their hearts and minds, nevermind actually Doing it???? and the photo op quote just proves my point. He thinks its all about him, that he has stepped down from mt olympus to grace us with his presence, and we should be grateful for his guiding hand. And as far as some soldier spitting on his holy shoes, GO AHEAD! I don’t care if they do bounce the poor schmuck right out of the military,.. the balls he will have shown will get him further in civilian life than anything he could have done otherwise. I wold hire such a MAN in a heartbeat. sorry, but the unmitigated hubris of that poser just riles me up!

  • PatriotofPast

Thank you ALL for being Americas Patriots… And God Bless.
I just had to comment about this article I read in my local newspaper… About Sarah Palins book “Going Rogue”, the writter actually said “She does NOT have the experience to be Vice President”.
PLEASE tell me what Experience Obama has TO BE PRESIDENT? I’m still looking.
