At great risk to being labeled a pseudo-intellectual anda troll please bear with me as I vomit this up:

I have never been happy with the World Trade Center(s) bombing. It seems so useless as a strategy. What did it accomplish (other than killing and destruction which is bad enough but bear with me – think like a Jihadi)?

Then this event added to the attempt to get the Gitmo Terrorists to Ill (near a nuke plant-hello) got me thinking (take cover, I know).

What if the shoe bomber and the Panty bomber were tests, graduation ceremonies?
We give you lame tools (Al Qeda can’t get a detonator to work? WTF?) and if you succeed, we smile and send another but if you try and fail that proves you are working for us so now you’re in an American Jail (hopefully) where you can now indoctrinate all those American Muslims (read that angry black males).

Then, one fine day, all of God’s newest children rise up, take over prison (with outside help) and assault countryside.

So, you earn your bones, prove your loyalty, get sent to Jail and spawn new Jihadis and, one day, all rise up.

Now, what if most of the American military is out of CONUS and stuck under quarantine (Swine Flu Deux).

Just a thought.

Does anyone have an idea what might be in the proximity of major Federal Prisons (nuke plants, chemical waste dumps, small towns full of Chechnya opportunities, railway hubs, airports, military bases, power nexi…are you getting my point?

Send in a failed Jihadi to mulitply his or her effectiveness in fertile recruiting grounds.

Again, I am now taking cover…

What would happen to local and state law enforcement if, during a large scale (Uttica Style) prison riot/take over, if these responding law enforcement officers were assaulted while their attention is on the prison by an IED or other attack?
Then the prison was breached and the prisoners were allowed to go free while a cadre of ‘Jihadis’ go on another mission (take over a school, blow up a power plant, release chemicals from a plant, attack a nuke plant, etc).

What if this was done in CA and El Emme (Mexican Mafia) were part of the release from a major state prison?

Maybe everything up ’til now is training and development for this?

I think the Jihadists made several mistakes.

#1. They didn’t know that the majority of the people who work at the WTC’s don’t show up for work until 9 A.M.

#2. If they had hit both Twin Tower’s below the 20th floor after 9 A.M. they would have killed in excess of 30,000 people…easily.

#3. If the Al-Queda terrorists aboard Flight 93 had kept their mouths shut they would have reached their destination of either the Capital Dome or the White house causing who knows what damage.

My point is, that Al-Queda, no matter how well educated some of them may be, simply aren’t that knowledgeable about the United States, if they were, they would have acquired the knowledge to avoid the mistakes they made on 9-11-2001.

Herein, Mike, lies the problem Pat made note of to me.

I agree with you BUT I think it is important to confirm whether we are dealing with an organization that is incompetent or has a plan.
If they are incompetent or just plain chaotic then that requires a slightly different approach than if they have a plan.

I am looking at this strategically, not tactically.

Was WTC a shot in the dark that rolled a natural 20 on a D20 (in other words got lucky) or was it thought out and planned as part of a larger goal or plan that is not being seen through the haze of the rubble?

Random violence means we ALL need to be in the ‘militia’ and sitting tight will only makes things easier for the terrorists. A plan means the good money is on well trained operatives (from Local Law Enforcement to SEAL Teams) and we, the people, need to sit tight, trust our trained operatives and stay out of the way (to an extent).

Your last point is excellent and is the reason I am ‘thinking too much’ about this.

My understanding was that Al Goatfucker actually did not intend for the buildings to collapse but rather to make a gigantic specatacle on the news. The point being a “shock and awe” dog and pony show to get Bush to quickly capitulate to their demands. AG did not want a long, protracted war of attrition in the middle east such as with Iraq. But Bush was kind enough to give it to them anyway. God Bless you, Mr. Bush!

I think you are giving them a bit much credit for tactics. Islamic terrorists are short on tactical nuance as seen in Iraq and other places. The entire point is to kill enough civilians and have your opponent capitulate. See how well that worked in Iraq. Unfortunately I could absolutely see Ovomit cutting backrooom deals with Al Goatfucker now they know he lacks the balls to really fight like Bush did.

the point of the 9/11 attacks was to accomplish EXACTLY what they did: instill fear, divisiveness, and wreak destruction: both physical & financial — get the attention of the world. They proved that a small group of men with a political and religious ideology were capable of taking on the most powerful country in the world. And that,Tim,is exactly the way jihadis think.

As for indoctrinating American prisoners, that’s been going on long before 9/11. It’s what islamic fundamentalists do–recruit anytime, anywhere.

Al Q’s fingerprints were all of the Mumbai attacks. Same MO. A few men causing major destruction of life and property, instilling fear and chaos on the world’s stage.
