Breaking: Michael Yon Arrested At US Border For Not Reporting His Salary

Seattle Weekly:

UPDATE: A spokesman from U.S. Customs and Border Protection says there are two sides to every story. Details after the jump.

Airport security is a big deal these days. But since when has reporting your income been a matter of national security?

Michael Yon is an ex-Green Beret turned war correspondent who’s spent much of the past four years covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His passport, therefore, is likely to have the kind of stamps that might make TSA agents think twice, especially in the wake of Christmas Day’s underpants bomber.

But according to Yon, it was his refusal to tell SeaTac officials how much money he made that apparently landed him in cuffs.

michael-yon-facebook-feed

Yon says he was rescued from his “border bullies” by Port Authority police who advised the agents (still trying to confirm if that means TSA or Border Patrol) to let him go. And in a later Facebook post, Yon said that his treatment at SeaTac was the worst he’d ever received, a pretty strong statement from a guy who’s made his way through airports in Brunei, Kuwait and, of course, Afghanistan.

Daily Weekly has a call in to the Port Authority police spokesperson’s office and TSA’s regional office to confirm the incident. We’ll let you know what we find out.

UPDATE: Unfortunately for us, the government’s side isn’t going to be made public anytime soon.

“In any situation there’s two sides to the story,” says CBP spokesman Mike Milne. “You’ve heard one side, and we’re prohibited by the Privacy Act from telling our side.”

Although Milne wouldn’t provide any details, he did say that TSA had nothing to do with Yon’s arrest. (A fact that should have been obvious to me — when was the last time you saw a TSA agent wearing handcuffs? — but I didn’t want to assume anything since Yon hadn’t been specific.)

All funds can be frozen under the patriot act. Familiar with a business traveler this happened to. Just a number to call. Be prepared…Interpol, Infraguard, Justice Department.

  • Johnny Golden

:gun: Let us not forget that the Czar of Homeland Security & TSA put out the memo that Veterans & gun owners are a potential security threat…How many diaperheads & illegals got into the U.S. while they were Fucking with a Patriot?

Yon has chunks of guys like those Customs’ agents in his stool.

    I posted this on Breitbart:

There is no humor in this article. His name is probably on a list because he is a conservative and a patriot. That translates to : terrorist. Some TSA wokers are total a$$holes. They feel empowered but as someone above said, if Michael looked like he just go off a camel, then he would probably have gotten a coffee and hurried through. I live here near Seattle and all the officials are radical democrazis.____Reminds me of the time I flew on business from Houston right after 9-11. The Tsa officials flagged me as a security check. In front of all the boarding passengers, they patted me down, took off my belt and wanted to know what was behind my jean’s zipper. What as assanine question. I was embarrased but stood my ground and said “better looking than what you have”. So I unzipped my jeans and asked her if she wanted me to take them off. All this front of hundreds of people.

Bottom line is we are in an era with this Obongo adminisitration that all these blogs are being monitored and our ISP addresses are being logged. I can assure you that we, who express our “anger” against the dear leader are on a list and will be harrassed sooner or later if we fly because we like Mr. Yon are a threat to these communists and the muslim’s get preferential treatment.

Looks like DHS has a memo from the President to Keep Yon from reporting the real story in Afganistan. It makes the manchild less than a man I wonder if the TSA and Port Athority have a connection to SEIU I would bet that could be in the the mix.

Mike,if you read this blog, I think you are a real hero and a great journalist. Shit happens at airports. “Don’t mean nothin” Welcome back to the States !

  • Moriah

Is there anyway to find out who’s on the no-fly list? I don’t have a salary…

  • cold soldier

My experience with TSA in New Orleans (The. Simian. Authorities.) is that they are people on welfare, that got tired of staying at home, and wanted a little power.

  • Marplot

Had a similar experience with Canadian Customs at Niagara Falls crossing, Aug 09. Drove to the Canadian customs “toll booth”, the agent asked us the usual where you been, where you going questions. Passed my passport through her scanner, then she asked, “Do you have any firearms” in your van?” (I have a CHP) I answered no. Then she asked, “do you have any firearms at home?” HUH? I asked her why she needed to know that and she just lit into me!! Whoa!!
What data is our country “sharing” with others? Everything apparently!

  • billy_bonney

Bullshit, Yon was targeted because he puts out some unflattering (to Obamao) material.

Bet all our names are on a list just for pulling up
    Pat’s website.

fuck them, that won’t stop us.

God bless Mike Yon, I’m not going to fill his shoes but I am determined to stand beside him. I have embed orders with the Marines. Out.

  • Lone Wolf

I noticed a message flashed momentarily at the bottom of my screen earlier today when I loaded this site that said ‘waiting for http://www.whitehouse.gov‘…

  • Joe

Oh please, this is probably just some power tripping TSA or boarder guard. If you really think he was targeted because he reports the truth then shouldn’t the government try and avoid making a spectacle of it? If the government wanted him gone, they would have gotten him in Iraq or Afghanistan.

My 16 year son was grilled and treated like a criminal by a TSA screener over his school homework papers in his backpack. I was furious! The bitch couldn’t tell the difference between algebra and a “suspected terrorist map” It took all I had to bite my tongue! Instead of sniffing out Muslim middle eastern men like they should they have to pick on old ladies, military veterans and school children. Were just about one more manufactured “crisis” to martial law.

TSA may handle situations on their own in a way that may or may not be acceptable , but If someone thinks people are flagged indiscriminately, you’re mistaken.

  • GF

The Israelis must be laughing their asses off at us.

Yon could have saved himself the trouble if he drove up from the south with a ton cocaine and 50 illegals, he’d have a 95% chance of getting through some back road without anybody asking him shit.

  • Clutch250f

This wasn’t ever reported here in Washington. Hell i never heard of it and i live within walking distance of SeaTac airport. Doesn’t surprise me though, that is kinda bad publicity for the airport..

  • Jeff

No surpise here. I was “flagged” for extra screening in 06-07 once I hit the states on leave from the MTO.
I basically had to strip to the waist (Yes, in uniform)at each TSA Security screening at every airport I went to. When leaving home to go back, this happened again at our local airport. Seeing this, my better half started to throw dollars at me and yelling “take it all off”. TSA got the point and ushered me through.
So, this crap was happening even then but needless to say, I’m a bit suprised they’d stoop this low and trump up some type of charge to arrest Mr. Yon.

Thank you Yon for not taking the Fed’s shit! I got your back buddy as well as many others!

I think CBP has it all wrong, it’s called FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT!!! The public has the right to know unless there is sensitive aspect to this which I see that there is none….complete and utter BS.

Michael Yon…keep up the good work. If your were not effective you would not be on their radar!

By the way, whose business is it anyway what a man’s salary is…especially at the Seattle airport? What in the world would make that, in any way, shape, or form, a valid question for TSA to ask? Ole Mohammad, on Christiams Day, in Detroit, didn’t even have a salary! There has been no evidence that he was even ever employed. A man’s salary is none of the TSA’s or even DHS and ICE’s business…certainly not as a simple question at a Customs check-point. I have been al over the world and have been stip searched, scanned, wanded, patted, probed, and whatever else they desired to do, sometimes while seriously armed soldiers were keeping guard at national entrance locations, but never, not ever, have I been asked what my salary was!

I say: Keep your eyes open…something aint right about this thing…something else is afoot…some other thing is soon to be exposed…and those of us who are on whatever list is being operated on, in this case, shall soon learn what thst really is.

  • Bobby E

This is how they will operate. Whether it is Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, or the best of our citizens and patriots, they will attempt to remove us one at a time … one day someone you know, admire, or follow will be there, the next they won’t. They cannot accomplish this when we unite as one.

  • josephus

Everything is being monitored. You are 100% correct. I have no doubt this site is a fan fav.

  • cold soldier

Michael needs to disclose his income to enter the country, yet we let barry waltz into the White House without so much as a picture I.D……INSANITY :!:

  • JJIrons

Wow! Looks like our nation’s security is back to 100% ! We really “got someone” this time! What a crock…If he was James Carville or some other dickhead, he’d have gone through no problems.

  • Lil Mac

Wonder if this had anything to do with Michael’s latest dispatch ??? I salute the Ernie Pyle of our genneration , Welcome home patriot & give em hell

If the TSA has no power of arrest, why are charges of kidnapping or unlawful arrest not being filed?

  • cold soldier

I knew that was coming

  • Annie Oakley

I was going to attend a conference next month. With all that is going on, I’ve decided not to go. It would be too far to drive.

I did call the hotel and the airlines and told them why I’m not going. Because I know it could easily happen to me (being mistreated by the TSA losers) at the airport.

I refuse to fly anywhere now, if I can’t drive there, I’m not going.
