CBS 2 Chicago:

It’s a titanic battle, and it’s in the 3-D of reality: A Chicago alderman versus “Avatar.”

Eleventh Ward Ald. James Balcer believes the new blockbuster movie is anti-military and anti-American.

CBS 2′s Mike Parker reports.

Balcer is a decorated Marine veteran of the Vietnam war, and now he’s going into battle against the film that may turn out to be the biggest moneymaker of all time. He hates the film’s message, and he’s not alone.

In the movie, an army of mercenaries, led by a villainous Marine, invades the idyllic planet of Pandora and goes after the peaceful blue creatures who live there over deposits of a precious mineral.

Balcer says the film makes Marines “look like lunatics.” In reality, he said, “We are a good, generous country that helps people.”

Balcer’s not the only critic blasting “Avatar” for its point of view. There is also conservative activist Tom Roeser.

“This is the only time I ever sat in a theater where people were cheering the forest and the blue people, attacking ex-Marines,” Roeser said.

Asked if the film is anti-American and anti military, Balcer said, “Well, they never mentioned America but when you have the eagle, globe and anchor — the Marine Corps emblem — it has to be America.”

“And that’s the Hollywood view of us,” Roeser complained. “We are the exploiters, we are pre-emptive attackers.”

Others who have seen the film were less critical.

“To me it was more talking about people’s exploitations on resources,” Michelle Tan said.

“It can be kind of like, liberal and anti-military, but overall, the message was more like humanitarian,” Tatiana Favelevic said.

The film critic for the right-wing Weekly Standard calls the film “blitheringly stupid” and among the “dumbest movies I’ve ever seen.” Others have attacked it for its super-environmentalism and what is perceived as an anti-Christian slant.

None of this has kept “Avatar” from becoming a huge moneymaker all over the world.

Most of people who paid to see probably won’t come away putting 2 and 2 together.
    It’s entertainment…garbage in, garbage out.
But wasn’t this put out by Fox?

Where are the movie producers for Conservative and pro-American films, documentaries and TV shows?

We have Oliver Stone’s bullshit coming on Showtime, revisionist history coming to The History Channel, Michael Moore’s tedious crap, hell, even Al Gore.

    So where are our stories?

A conservative friend of mine who saw the movie referred to it as “Dances with Blue People”: a ripoff of the 1993 movie starring Kevin Costner. To him, the movie was overtly political.

I would say that for liberals, Avatar raises few red flags because they are desensitized to this bullshit but for us, it hits a very raw nerve.

The only thing I don’t understand is how this trite bullshit is becoming a box office runaway. Is it because there’s really nothing else good out there? What is the allure of a third-rate anti-American polemic?

Cameron is commercially successful because he’s mastered a simple concept of popular art:

    1. Don’t talk over anyone’s head, especially the 12-24 year-old crowd (92% of the $ Hollywood makes). Along with this, liberal=good; conservative=bad.
    2. If you can’t convince ‘em, jerk ‘em off with cool CGI.
    3. Study the foreign market, because the foreign market (strictly speaking, the “rest of Planet Earth” is FAR larger than the US market). Pander to peons.

Cameron is a financial genius. Artistically, the man is the definition of “whore.”

Hollywood and the entertainment industry is America’s LARGEST export, most lucrative export, who has to cater to the interests of the rest of the world regardless of the impact it has here at home. Fuck cameron and all who participated in making this garbage.

I went to see it to critique it.
How the hero could be an exmarine was beyond me.
No way in hell was he an ex marine.
And the so called ex marines acted like the FBI at WACO.
    Take no prisoners.
All in all I thought it was a boring movie.
All the action was at the end.
And the blue people where like Dances with Wolves. Like stated above.
The thing never mentioned about Indians, is that they killed people all the time to survive.
    They called them War Parties.
Put on makeup and killed the next tribe over.

Of course the film is anti-military/anti-US…did anyone expect anything less?
