WASHINGTON (AP) — Toyota is recalling about 8,000 Tacoma pickup trucks from the 2010 model year to fix a problem with the front propeller shaft that could cause the vehicle to lose control.

The automaker told dealers Friday that a crack could develop that could lead to the front driveshaft separating and falling from the truck, causing the vehicle to lose control.

While small in number, the recall is the latest issued by Toyota, which has called back 8.5 million vehicles worldwide for faulty gas pedals and brakes. The recall involves 4-wheel drive Tacomas that were built from mid-December 2009 to early February 2010.

A notice to dealers says the part was manufactured by Dana Corp.

A Toyota spokesman says most of the vehicles are on dealer lots or in the distribution chain.

Now I am thinking instead of the Tacoma maybe I’ll get a Ford Ranger. Saw the ones the Afghan N Army bought and they looked good, and so far they havn’t been recalled for a faulty propeller shaft? Obama said the other day that “anyone can buy a truck” and that would include me.

All of this is a blatant attempt at Zero boosting GovernmentMotorsCorp. May Chrysler and General Motors go down in flames. It’s time for the unions, who have been the cause of overpricing for years, be brought to their knees. I won’t cheer until they are all out of work. FUCK UNIONS AND FUCK OBAMA!

Tacomas are amazing trucks. Just buy an 09 model.

My dad had a ’06 Ranger and my mom an ’07 Tacoma. They ultimately sold the Ranger and plan to keep the Tacoma for many years. I drove both and while the Ranger was a competent truck, there was just no comparing it to the Tacoma. What really surprised me was the way the Tac handled the deep snow in winter….just amazing. It bested the Ranger by a huge margin in every way.
