MONTREAL (CBC) – Two Montreal teenagers are facing charges after being arrested for impersonating police officers, police say.
The two allegedly stopped and searched several cars in the citys Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district, occasionally demanding drivers pay a fine, Montreal police Sgt. Ian Lafrenière said Tuesday.
They are also alleged to have stolen objects from inside the cars.
“They had some flashers and sirens so they were pretending to be an undercover police car,” said Lafrenière. “[They] were not wearing any badges or anything like that.”
Some drivers complied with the teens demands, but others found the situation suspicious and alerted police, Lafrenière said.
Though this type of situation is rare, people should remain on alert, said Lafrenière.
“Just listen to yourself,” he said. “If you think it’s weird just ask for a badge, a piece of ID, and if at the end of it, if you’re not sure enough, you can call 911.”
The two 18 year olds, Erno Bujold Adam and Vincent Beauregard Ononiba, face charges including impersonating a police officer, theft and extortion.
They are expected back in court April 13.
