The Final Blow: Stupak Says He Is Close To Deal For His Gang Of Six To Vote “Yes”

The Hill:

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) said Sunday morning that he is close to striking a deal with the Obama administration on abortion provisions.

“We are close to getting something done,” Stupak said in an interview with MSNBC.

Stupak said he engaged in talks late into Saturday night.

The possible deal would focus on an executive order that would specify there would be no public funding for abortions in the healthcare bill.

“We’re close but we’re not there yet,” Stupak said.

Democratic leaders said Sunday they have the votes on healthcare reform, but Stupak said until there is a deal struck, they don’t have the 216 votes they need.

Stupak said “there were eight of us” in the negotiating room, all of them no votes.

Stupak said Saturday that there were “at least six” of his original dozen that were going to oppose the health bill. He said that he was “going to think about” what would need to be included in an executive order to convince him that no federal dollars would go toward funding abortion. Further, Stupak said that he had not talked to the White House about such an executive order.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) confirmed Stupak’s whip count of at least six holdouts.

In an interview with The Hill, Kaptur said that an executive order “could be helpful, depending on what’s in it.”

But, not having talked with the White House about such an action, she said, “I don’t really know how real that is.”

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters Saturday that he was “hopeful” that an executive order, under discussion by leaders on abortion, will persuade a majority of “pro-life” Democrats to vote for the bill.

They are working tirelessly on Sunday..Just a little snub for kicks towards God because THEY are the ELITES!!

Father in Heaven, keep the soul of the former America in Your hands,Nurture and strethen it whereas it will rise up again as it did against tyranny once before.Let Your Rightnessness prevail again in the form of swift and brutal justice upon the heads of the godless Left.

    Amen.

I am not at all surprised by this. There is no such thing as a principled pro-life democrat. They don’t exist and Stupak managed to trick the dumbass Reagan democrats again.

  4. [...] like hell. On the other hand, Bart Stupak (who looked like a man of principles) is reporting that he’s close to working out a deal for himself and his gang of six to vote yes. Boehner says that they still don’t have the [...]

Obama has done nothing but divide this country. What they are doing today is very dangerous for the nation. But they don’t care. With so many people jobless. With the take over of the car industry, and banks. This country is ready to explode. Maybe this is the grand Obama plan…..Martial law.
I believe that is their plan. Because as you see, The democrats have no fear of the voters.

Why is it so difficult to understand how initiated bills and concepts almost always lead to an end result that is unwanted?

Every hot-button issue in this bill is being smoothed over to placate the (supposed) Blue Dogs and middle of the road types. This whole bill is a bag of lies. It will give the majority of Americans sub-standard healthcare and higher taxes. We will - one way or another - lose our primary care physicians. And, yes, abortion will find its way right into the government health care arena just as soon as the initial bill is passed and some organization (NARAL, ACLU) sues the Federal Government to include abortion in it as a “right”. And, guess who controls the courts? The fuckin’ left. The ONLY way to keep abortion out is to strike down the bill in its current form.

I’ll give you one quick example. I don’t smoke nor have I ever. However, I knew the second that the govt. and the money-grubbing lawyers found a way to sue and punish smokers and tobacco companies that they would move on as soon as that goose was cooked. Now, it’s trans-fats and sweets. Within the next few year I KNOW it will be meat products.

Who said elections don’t matter????? Only a dumb ass would believe that now!!!!!!!

I understand that his bill gives the IRS massive powers over us. This is the way they will shut us down and take control. It’s time people. Time for them to really fear us. REVOLUTION is the only solution. See you at the polls in November…. If the black panthers and acorn let us vote.
