Arizona Governor Signs Nation’s Toughest Anti-Trash Law

PHOENIX (AP) – Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law the nation’s toughest legislation against illegal immigration Friday, a sweeping measure that supporters said would take handcuffs off police but which President Barack Obama said could violate people’s civil rights.

The bill, sent to the Republican governor by the GOP-led Legislature, would make it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It would also require local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.

Brewer, who faces a tough election battle and growing anger in the state over illegal immigrants, said the law “protects every Arizona citizen.”

“We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for Washington to act,” Brewer said after signing the law. “But decades of inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation.”

Obama said in Washington that he’s instructed the Justice Department to examine the Arizona bill to see if it’s legal, and said the federal government must enact immigration reform at the national level—or leave the door open to “irresponsibility by others.”

“That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe,” Obama said.

Brewer was under intense pressure from anti-illegal immigration groups and lawmakers in her own party to sign the bill, but has given no indication what she will do.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the State Capitol complex Friday calling on Brewer to veto the legislation.

Demonstrators have been camped outside the Capitol since the measure passed out of the Legislature on Monday. Their numbers have grown steadily throughout the week, with buses bringing protesters from as far away as Los Angeles.

About a dozen supporters of the measure also gathered.

    Here is a few facts for Mr. Obama to chew on:

    1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people)are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.
    2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
    3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
    4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
    5. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
    6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
    7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
    8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
    9. 1 in 25 illegal aliens are felons
    10. 1 in 12 illegals have commited sexual assault
    11. 1 in 6 illegals have commited misdemeanors
    12. illegals consume 45 times more than they contribute to the economy.
    13. illegals murder 45 Americans every day, on average.

    I think it’s great. :beer: :beer: But I see problems on down the line.
    -Riots, they are busing in protesters from California. Everyone knows if a minority group riots, the government gives them everything they want. We had blacks riot in Cincinnati in 2000, over a black man getting shot by the cops. Cops were cleared of wrong doing, but they rioted anyway. Our city council has bent over backwards for the black community ever since.
    -A lot of these illegals are gang affiliated,expect brown on white violence. That will be hushed up by media. Of course.
    -Obama passes sweeping Immigration reform.
    -Newly made “citizens” vote in obama for a second term in a landslide win.
    -4 more years of the usurper.

    Hope I’m wrong. :beer: :beer: to the Governor of Arizona for doing what’s right.

      Anyone who riots has immediately surrendered the moral and ethical highground; nobody can claim their cause is legitimate and noble if they must resort to fear, intimidation and violence to “prove” it – they tried it before, and lost (refering to the marches a few years back). 70% of Arizonans support Brewer’s bill.

      The key is to never stand down – never let them intimidate us or strongarm us into silence and acceptance – we have the moral authority, we have the will of the people, we have the rule of law on our side. I hope anyone here has the stones to push back twice as hard in the face of opposition.

      Sign me up for a couple of weeks there and I’ll bring some sharpshooter friends to help with that whole immigration thing. Some well placed shots will do a lot to stem the tide of illegals just waltzing across our borders. And when that problem has been countered, we’ll be glad to deploy to urban areas for Ops.

    We had a perfectly good guest worker program, that prevented all these immigration problems, from WWII to the the early sixties when Democrats and their union buds destroyed it.

    Oh, by the way they stole bonuses and savings from the some of the guest workers, Braseros (sp.?), and denied many of them the transportation home that was part of their contracts. The Left seeks only to exploit illegal immigrants and people with short memories allow them to do so with immunity.

    What racial profiling? Since when has “Mexican” been considered a race? This is NOT racial profiling, but geographic profiling.

    If Hungary were south of the border and were doing what the Mexicans are, we would react the same way. And there certainly is no Hungarian race.

    It is all based on geographic location. What do they still not understand about the adjective and status of “illegal”?

    Interesting that the current one-term president sides with non-Americans instead of legitimate Americans.
    Is his empathy as a non-American born citizen showing?

    Obama cares nothing about the rights of those legal American citizens who won’t for him anyway.

    He only is concerned about the votes of potentially new voters who are illegal now and will end up legal if he is allowed to grant them amnesty.

    As usual, he is on the wrong side of all things American.

      A Sobriety Checkpoint. Which the Supreme Court said is Constitutional. So if Latinos are being “Profiled”… I guess every person who stops for a beer After work is also being Profiled.
      I do not think it goes far enough, Personally I would Re-Start Operation Wetback! In 1954 Eisenhower used ALL Law enforcement available (Including Military) to Deport over 1 Million Illegals. If it worked then, Why not now?

    Yesterday I sent a letter of congratulations to Governor Brewer for here actions to protect Arizona from both illegals and the Communist lackeys in Washington DC. Everyone here should do the same and let her know the “right” thinking America is not only behind her, but standing beside her.

    Just Google the Governor and you’ll find under “Contact” a place to type in a message that WILL get through. She is not a coward who hides behind a Zip Code disqualifier like the Marxist Morons in Congress. I’m sure she would appreciate hearing from you; and she does have an automated response back to let you know it got through.

    Republican Women might just save the union since the Republican Men we have now are nutless little appeasers.

    Guess what – a poll just released shows that 70%+ of Arizonans support this measure. Furthermore, the Constitution does not mention anything about immigration. Thusly, any federal attempt to interfere with this law will be unconstitutional and illegal.

    Any attempt to interfere with this bill, in defiance of the Will of the People, is nothing short of fascist.
