Obama Explains Why Hybrids Aren’t Good Enough For Him – With Video

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A guy who flew all the way from Cleveland to quiz President Obama today wanted to know why the self-described green president doesn’t have a hybrid. “The limo that you drive … electric sometime soon?” he asked to applause.

“I’m going to be honest with you,” Obama replied. “When I first got Secret Service protection, I asked, ‘Can we make these cars hybrid?’ ” he said. “I apologize, but the Secret Service said no. … The cars that I’m in are like tanks … so they weigh two or three times what an ordinary car weighs, so they just couldn’t get the performance or acceleration” if they were a hybrid.

    There are farm tractors that run on methane. The tractors themselves are heavy, plus they pull heavy loads.
    As for acceleration go to a tractor pull contest and see what a souped up tractor can do.

      um, Lexus LS has a hybrid system with a V8 – it can go faster than the same car without hybrid option, and burns less gas at that.
