April 25: Joseph Sean McVey is seen in this mug shot provided by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – An armed man who was arrested at a North Carolina airport just after President Barack Obama left the state is to appear before a judge.

A jailer in Asheville says 23-year-old Joseph Sean McVey of Coshocton, Ohio, has a first appearance in court Monday.

McVey was arrested Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Regional Airport and is charged with going armed in terror of the public, a misdemeanor. He’s being held at a county jail on $100,000 bond.

Authorities say McVey told an officer in the airport parking lot he wanted to see the president. Authorities say he had a car equipped with police gear, including a siren and flashing lights.

Airport Police Capt. Kevan Smith says McVey is not in law enforcement.

Officials say he was never near the president.

If this guy was pretending to be a cop as reported, it is hard to give him support

  • Ringo69er

He might be a part time mall cop.

  • Xavier

Maybe he just wanted to have beer with the Prez.

    Tyler
I’m not saying I support the guy…just his right to carry a gun.
The way I read the first report:
    1. Somebody saw a gun
    2. They then went over to arrest the guy
    3. There was no reason to arrest the guy simply
    because he had a gun
    4. The police stuff was incidental to the gun
    5. The report said he was in a public area and nowhere near Obama…then why did they bother with him? Because he had a gun! and that is not a crime!
