Politico:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) says President Barack Obama is spreading “false” information about the Arizona immigration bill.

McCain was rebutting a statement the president recently made about the law that grants police in the state the ability to ask anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant for documentation proving their citizenship.

“If you are an Hispanic American in Arizona, your great-grandparents may have been there before Arizona was even a state but now suddenly if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, your going to be harassed, that’s something that could potentially happen, that’s not the right way to go,” Obama said during a town hall event in Iowa.

During an interview Wednesday night with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, McCain said the comment was “simply false” and partially responsible for pushing a negative narrative about the state.

“That is totally falsifying the law passed in Arizona, which calls for reasonable suspicion, both whether someone should be stopped or not, and, once they’re stopped, reasonable suspicion as to whether they are in the country illegally, and it specifically outlaws racial profiling,” McCain said.

“For the president to make the statement that he did … is partially what brings on a lot of things said afterwards.”

The cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles have voted to boycott Arizona and several civil rights groups have called on Major League Baseball to strip Phoenix of the 2011 All-Star game.

Asked by Hannity why he thought Obama would say something the senator contends is false, McCain responded: “I have no idea. But I know it’s outrageous.”

A little late, Mr. McCain. Looks like you’re just trying to save your political neck.

I saw the interview and McLame never used the word “lie” just as other RINOs will never call a lie, a lie. This is but one of the problems with our government; glossing over the lies by calling them outrageous or the untruth. Why can’t you man up like Joe Wilson and call this Son of a Bitch, a liar – which is exactly what this morally corrupt cretin is. This is why you RINOs are going down – because you can’t man up to the destroyers of freedom, but instead you are embracing them and trying to cut yourself a deal.

McLame – go home to your trophy wife and all that money. And stay gone!

What numbnuts McCain should have said:

Because obamma is a pandering demagog, seeking hispanic votes, and to prime the pump for amnesty.

Attila, Senator McCain comes from an older generation that did not use the kind of language you suggest with respect to the President. For them, McCain’s language is very, very strong.

The important thing is that McCain’s position on securing the southern border and defending the Arizona law are the correct positions and that McCain does attack as false Obama’s propaganda about it. We have a national security and law enforcement crisis on our southern border, and McCain, who does know national security issues well, knows that we have a national security and law enforcement crisis on our southern border.

Yeah, he’s all for securing the Border – until after the elections are over.

    • Phil Byler

No, Sanders, McCain called for troops on the southern border in 2009 long before any primary challenge, and McCain’s position since 2008 has been that law enforcement must come first.

The comprehensive 2007 immigration legislation, which President GW Bush wanted very mush to sign, was like the Reagan-era immigration bill and did have strong law enforcement provisions in it. The problem with the Reagan era bill was that the law enforcement provisions in it were not enforced, creating our current problem; and it was a persuasive criticism that given the experience with the Reagan-era immigration “reform,” we need to do law enforcement first to get it right and not risk making the problem worse by an approach that did not work before. When McCain argued in 2007, that the 2007 bill was not amnesty, he was correct in terms of what was in the words of the bill (de jure); the real problem was how the bill would have worked in practice and that it would have led to de facto amnesty. McCain’s response to the immigration debate was to accept that law enforcement must come first.

Reagan’s amnesty was a huge mistake as well. I grew up on the border and have had to defend my property – back in the 80′s, already, against drug smugglers from Mexico. There was no law, no Border Patrol out there at all back then.

I’ve seen McCain “run to the right” every time he runs for election in Arizona. He doesn’t give a shit about the Border except for what kind of political points he can garner.

I wonder how many people offered to take him up on his offer to pay them $50/hr to pick lettuce? I wonder how many he actually paid to do it? I’ll wager more than one offered to take him up on it, but that he never covered his bet.

McCain is a classic example of a politician pissing down our backs and telling us its raining. And when things get going rough for him, he pulls out his POW card and plays that – claiming that he shouldn’t be questioned nor criticized because he was a POW.
