Honestly, I don’t know what Cameron wants to film that isn’t already being filmed. We can all see the gushing pipe. It is currently gushing and tomorrow it will be gushing and it will continue gushing until the relief wells are drilled (as it is clear that is the way they have decided to go).
The nuclear method would have sealed the pipe 2 weeks or so ago but not BP or any other company would be allowed to drill that source again it once the nuke closed it off.
Yes, I know we signed treaties against underground detonations but I believe they could have skirted the gray area because this would not have been a detonation for research and development of new weapons.

Nuking is actually a dumb idea. Got that straight from someone who designed and “used” them back in the good ole days of testing below ground. Potential for massive release of hydrocarbons. Check out ALL of the details of Operation Gasbuggy. Treaties don’t mean crap compared to this.
As for Allen, the guy is either a liar or dumb. When “Topkill” failed and everyone could see at least the mud being blown out of the splits above BOP Stack, Allen was saying that it worked.

I don’t believe anything would be released from a detonation that is 5000′ below the Gulf then another 10,000′ feet below the seabed. The trick would be the get the “crush zone” right on top of the pipe leading to the reserve.
Like I said, it would work but we lose a HUGE oil reserve which would be bad for the oil independence idea that I like so much. So we wait … the well will get fixed, years of environmental cleanup will occur and this will fade from people’s mind (in this day and age, the memory won’t last a year from the time the broken pipe is finally filled with concrete).
As for Operation Gasbuggy; that used a 29kt bomb at a depth of about 4200′ . I am not talking about a bomb that large (5 to 8kt max), plus the depth would be 15,000′ below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. I would be surprised if it registered a 2 on Richter scale.
