Both the McChrystal incident and the decisions which led to it are of such a stupefying magnitude that one must ponder the possible influence of the metaphysical.

And in this case, really, not the firm hand of fate at play in the destiny of Stanley McChrystal, but at play in the destiny of a nation, and perhaps its perhaps-destined savior: General David Petraeus. Ultimately, if this story is about any individual, it may be most about him.

    s0me0ne, not mentioning any names, recognizes His most potentially formidable challenger come 2012. I´ve got a hunch about something – and it´s not good. ROE are bad now….if they, the ROE, get w0rse, and things REALLY go into the shitter, who is going to get the finger pointed at him?

      Agreed but with Petraeus there it will be very hard for Obama to not grant any request coming to him. He now has a national hero in charge. Gen. Petraeus makes a stink about the ROE being to tight, BHO will have no choice about loosening the reigns and letting the men do what needs to be done. That is, of course, what I hope and pray will occur but this loser in the WH has a knack of not acting on common sense.

      Yes, we need more troops, especially since McChrystal actually asked for 20,000 more than was reported.

      Dumb, never wore uniform, piano player askum question: WHO is the one person with THE FINAL SAY on what the specific ROE´s are?

      That would be the Piano Player-in-Chief, of course.

      That’s not to say he gets involved in every AO’s ROE (or every anything), but he’ll be paying attention to this one.

      toldyouso … as I said, if Gen. Petraeus requests them, I would imagine that he will get them or have everyone wonder WTF the White House Clown is thinking about (although most of us already ask that question daily)

    Doesn’t this take a toll on morale for our troops? It has to be very frustrating with all this bullshit going on.

    Pat,

    Been a long time since posting. My son is currently deep in the :gun: somewhere in south Afg. So deep in fact, that I have no way of sending care pacs or even moto-mail. I am hopeful now that Gen. Patraeus is in the driver’s seat we can really get on with stomping the taliroach out for good and give the people of the Afghan. a chance at seeing their own way into the 21st century. A-LOT to hope for to be sure, but why else be there then?

    And to think I almost titled this Deep Thoughts “Destin, Florida” and wrote about something completely different. Whew, it’s good when I edit myself properly.

    Although the pictures of the beach babes would’ve been sweet…

      Pat,

      If this is a sore spot, then forgive me in advance. My son, as mentioned above, was in Ramadi during “that time.” I wait for the completion of your video project of that period, yet, I completely understand if the project is not going to your standards and you want only to bring it to “us” finished as you saw it. That is all I will say, you were there.

    It’s been premiering on Andrew Breitbart’s Big Hollywood in advance of the DVD release.

    What wasn’t up to my standards was Hollywood. I walked away from a $1 Million advance from Showtime and Ridley and Tony Scott, as they wanted to make what I considered a lefty PC version of it, after leading me down a primrose path of claims to the contrary, costing me over a year of my life and another $75,000 of my own.
