Obama’s Brilliant Oil Spill Solution: $7 A Gallon

New York Post:

President Obama has a solution to the Gulf oil spill: $7-a-gallon gas.

That’s a Harvard University study’s estimate of the per-gallon price of the president’s global-warming agenda. And Obama made clear this week that this agenda is a part of his plan for addressing the Gulf mess.

So what does global-warming legislation have to do with the oil spill?

Good question, because such measures wouldn’t do a thing to clean up the oil or fix the problems that led to the leak.

The answer can be found in Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s now-famous words, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste — and what I mean by that is it’s an opportunity to do things that you think you could not do before.”

That sure was true of global-warming policy, and especially the cap-and-trade bill. Many observers thought the measure, introduced last year in the House by Reps. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Edward Markey (D-Mass.), was dead: The American people didn’t seem to think that the so-called global-warming crisis justified a price-hiking, job-killing, economy-crushing redesign of our energy supply amid a fragile recovery. Passing another major piece of legislation, one every bit as unpopular as ObamaCare, appeared unlikely in an election year.

So Obama and congressional proponents of cap-and-trade spent several months rebranding it — downplaying the global-warming rationale and claiming that it was really a jobs bill (the so-called green jobs were supposed to spring from the new clean-energy economy) and an energy-independence bill (that will somehow stick it to OPEC).

Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) even reportedly declined to introduce their new cap-and-trade proposal in the Senate on Earth Day, because they wanted to de-emphasize the global-warming message. Instead, Kerry called the American Power Act “a plan that creates jobs and sets us on a course toward energy independence and economic resurgence.”

But the new marketing strategy wasn’t working. Few believe the green-jobs hype — with good reason. In Spain, for example, green jobs have been an expensive bust, with each position created requiring, on average, $774,000 in government subsidies. And the logic of getting us off oil imports via a unilateral measure that punishes American coal, oil and natural gas never made any sense at all.

Now the president is repackaging cap-and-trade — again — as a long-term solution to the oil spill. But it’s the same old agenda, a huge energy tax that will raise the cost of gasoline and electricity high enough so that we’re forced to use less.

The logic linking cap-and-trade to the spill in the Gulf should frighten anyone who owns a car or truck. Such measures force up the price at the pump — Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs thinks it “may require gas prices greater than $7 a gallon by 2020″ to meet Obama’s stated goal of reducing emissions 14 percent from the transportation sector.

Of course, doing so would reduce gasoline use and also raise market share for hugely expensive alternative fuels and vehicles that could never compete otherwise. Less gasoline demand means less need for drilling and thus a slightly reduced chance of a repeat of the Deepwater Horizon spill — but only slightly. Oil will still be a vital part of America’s energy mix.

Oil-spill risks should be addressed directly — such as finding out why the leak occurred and requiring new preventive measures or preparing an improved cleanup plan for the next incident. Cap-and-trade is no fix and would cause trillions of dollars in collateral economic damage along the way.

Emanuel was wrong. The administration shouldn’t view each crisis — including the oil spill — as an opportunity to be exploited, but as a problem to be addressed. And America can’t afford $7-a-gallon gas.

So how would we fight this?
What would be the equivalent of the Boston Tea Party?

    • CPLViper

There is no equivalent. Dumping gas or oil in the water only helps BHO get what he wants (and BP has done enough of that already).

I really don’t know what can be done besides the results of the voting process. Tea Parties with millions across the nation has made some people wake up but there are still many still asleep. Talk radio continues to educate people on the Constitution but not enough people are listening … instead they know something is wrong, they can feel it, but they can’t quite “put their finger on it”. This is a direct result of them not having been properly taught our history or taught a tainted version of our history. They do not know what freedom means and they do not know which freedoms have been and currently are being taken away. They simply cannot see through the deception that the steps taken by the government (for decades) are not compatible with freedom. They do not recognize the mortal risk to this country with each new power grab the government achieves. For others, it is that they simply do not care or, worse, they agree with what is happening.

The government for decades has been able do what the freedom loving public would not agree with quietly and secretly while trumpeting the policies they would like.

The government has always given us a common enemy in Communism or Socialism or Totalitarianism. Something for us to rally behind. For instance, the US and the Soviet Union was like a cat and mouse, both needing each other.

Ultimately when the US was victorious in the Cold War, we no longer had anything to chase or to run from.

Twenty to thirty years of continued Marixist, Socialist and Communist media manipulation to confuse the citizens on what is right and what is wrong. Whispering into the ears of half of the politicians and manipulating them to move further and further to Socialist tendencies, teach mediocrity, neuter the male population by frowning on muscularity, competition and the reflex to fight. Forcing a false equivalency into economics and chipping away at individuality and an individual’s right to protect themselves. Eroding the idea of personal property and removing religion everywhere it exists.

Responding lightly to enemies and terrorism in order to keep the military tied down and tired. Allowing our enemies to only fight enough to keep us engaged and spending money on war efforts all the while our real enemies are giving incentives to lure our businesses out of our country with cheap labor and materials.

Then, finally, when the Socialist agenda “simmers” as it has for the last couple decades, the “pot finally boils over” and gives us the housing market collapse that “dominoes” the rest of the economy. Finally, in an attempt to drive a stake through freedom’s heart, the government decides to keep running up debt and driving any form of recovery from being attained.

The next few years are crucial. The next leaders are going to have to be mortally brave. They are going to have to have a spine where they do what needs to be done and crush the barriers that we have allowed every enemy and every opportunist to build in front of us.

I don’t believe we are doomed to fail, yet, but to get the leadership we need we must continue to get the message out. If we let go, if we get tired of spreading the message of what freedom means, teaching our children and all who will listen about the rich and noble history of our country, what the true meaning of the Constitution is then all may be lost. And what I mean by the true meaning of the Constitution is not an interpretation of the Constitution (be it an interpretation from the right or left) but what it says as reiterated in the personal writings of the founding fathers and exemplified by how they lived their lives.

Ok … heavy thoughts for a Friday night … time to smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.

WE NEED TO LOOK AT THIS IN THE TRUE CONTEXT!!!!!

The real reason for Obama and the Oil Spill crap is to destroy “The South”.
    1) Render the Oil Economy useless….then other industries will follow.
    2) Render the land useless and inhabitable.
    3) Military action against Anti-Obama population.
    4) Clean-up & re-populate the land with Obama supporters as “Land Barons” and Masters.

NEED TO ALSO THINK IN CONTEXT OF TOM CLANCY’S “RAINBOW-SIX”…..DESTROY THE ABILITY TO INHABIT THE LAND SO ONLY THE WILDLIFE IS THERE TO MAKE THE ENVIRONMENTAL BUNCH HAPPY.

Look Pat, USMC, Tim, Hawker…….You all think I am crazy most of the time.

BUT WE ONLY HAVE 2 WEEKS BEFORE MOST OF THE COMPANIES GO BROKE & THE SOUTH IS GONE ECONOMICALLY.

IF THIS DOESN’T RISE TO THE LEVEL OF TREASON, NOTHING ELSE WILL EVER BE WORTH IT IN AMERICA.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU MILITARY GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

    • http://patdollard.com Average Joe

OBAMA HAS TRULY DECLARED WAR ON THE SOUTHERN US.

WITH $7.00/GAL GASOLINE, THE REST OF COUNTRY WILL FOLLOW IN RUIN. READY FOR ISLAMICS-MEXICANS-EUROMARXISTS TO DIVIDE THE COUNTRY.

There’s even more afoot that I am we aware of – namely all this government in-sourcing of jobs. Obongo has mandated in a government wide memo (but signed by one of his lackies) that the government in-source up to 400K jobs that were formerly held by contractors – the very jobs an OMB study (OMB A76), commissioned by Congress in 1976, to reduce the size of the government by out-sourcing those jobs not considered “critical”. Now they have reversed and are putting small businesses out of business.

Obongo crows on about all the monies given to banks for small businesses, but no bank is going to loan money to a small government contractor who has no signed contract. And thus, they will close the doors. I know because the company I work for lost 95 personnel this year alone to in-sourcing.

But here’s the other part of his diabolical plan – when you in-source jobs and kill small business; you also kill revenue paid by small businesses to local and the state governments. And what happens then is reduction of state and local services – like education, police, fire etc. So this plan has two spearheads – kill off small business and then bring down state and local governments.

This in-sourcing is basically illegal because when Congress mandated out-sourcing, they also mandated OMB studies along the way confirming the validity of the decision. There is over 30 years of validated studies as to cost savings he has literally thrown out the window in order to swell the size of government.

And yet another lie – he is adding the in-source jobs to his jobs numbers growth to bamboozle the public. These are NOT jobs created – you don’t create jobs when you make the people changes hats, so to speak. Just another lie from the mouth of this illegal alien, traitor and usurper.

Our nation is under attack on all fronts. The spill is just another “convenient” crisis and serves as another diversion from the fact he is attacking us on a wide front.

His attack is not unlike the Battle of the Bulge because he is going way beyond his base, just like the Germans went way beyond their logistical support. This November should be the halt of Obongo’s advance if we can reach some parity in Congress. Right now, we must stay engaged with the wavering members of the Democratic Party who are truly scared of losing their jobs. Even though the plan to throw them out may come to pass, we must instill fear in them that there will be a Judgment Day and punishment for their treasonous actions.

Put the fear of God, the Constitution and a real possibility of a New Revolution in them!

If they are floating the idea of $7.00 per gallon of gasoline you can be sure their real plans are for much more.

In addition to that, they will increase taxes and the cost of coal, electricity, natural gas and water.

    Carol Browner’s dream come true.

    • Paslode

Actually your being far too kind. Any and all increases in oil prices will end up costing everyone of us far more than $7 per gallon. whatever the increase is, it will be transferred multiple times to you by way of groceries, clothing, housing, property taxes, state taxes, etc.

How? It will get passed on and increased through every link in the distribution chain until you receive the final product. Or in the case of State and Local Governments, their operating expenses and they will make up that shortfall by increasing your State and Local taxes.

Enjoy your last 4th of July Independence Day. Because after this the party is over!
