UPDATE 8: A good update to tide the interested over, as we are midstream: Mondo Frazier in today’s Big Government: “The Story Has Neither Been Disproved Or Confirmed”. More from me, to follow, it’s taking time because I’m doing 5 other jobs, was out on the border with the AZ BP today, and have a lot of moving parts to piece together here.
UPDATE 7: As the primary story has now shifted to the Kimberly Dvorak story (ie, the story of Kimberly herself, whether or not she has engineered a hoax, her potential motives and partners), I’m preparing a detailed post, involving multiple sources as well as reporting from other public website posts, to give a full analysis of exactly what has gone down here. As the only blogger to have spoken at length to the original reporter of the story that is re-posted here, I’m sure you will find it all very enlightening. UPDATE 6: Was out of pocket most of the day, no new reports from Kimberly. Called her this evening, left a message.
UPDATE 5: Spoke to Kimberly again tonight, at 9:54 P.M. PST, for 10 minutes and 4 seconds, and not only does she continue to stand by her original story, she claims to have advanced it further, and has given me more information, including her claim that she has learned that this is not an unprecedented event. The rest, I have agreed to keep confidential. According to her, she will have an update in the morning. In blunt, plain-spoken English: either this story is true, or this woman is in need of urgent psychological care.

UPDATE 2: to the Webb County Sheriff’s and they would not confirm or deny that any ranches had been seized. They pleaded agnosticism.
I just spoke to Kimberly Dvorak who I know and has been a source on ACORN and other stories for Breitbart’s sites. Kimberly wrote this article on the situation this morning:

Kimberly is adamantly standing by her story, and gave me the name of one of her three sources inside both the Laredo Police and Webb County Sheriff’s Departments. She says two of those sources not only confirmed the story of the ranches being seized, but elaborated in great detail on what was happening. She also has other sources on the ground, non-law enforcement. She is mid-stream in developing and further reporting the whole story, and has reason reason to believe that law enforcement is in mid-operation on the ranches, and do not want that operation interrupted with publicity before they are finished.
Given the shootout that occurred on the 22nd, it would also make some sense that the ranches were simply occupied as safe havens by retreating Zeta gunman.
Kimberly has a record as a credible journalist, with established sources inside the Mexican cartels themselves.
I have no idea what quite is or isn’t going on here, but I say let’s give ol’ Kim the hours ahead to track all of this, and flesh it out, one way or the other. She’s asked for the rope, and I’m giving it to her.

UPDATE 1: The Webb County Sheriff’s department told me they had no information on the alleged seizure, and other people are claiming to have heard the same from both them and the Laredo PD, as well.

In what could be deemed an act of war against the sovereign borders of the United States, Mexican drug cartels have seized control of at least two American ranches inside the U.S. territory near Laredo, Texas.
Two sources inside the Laredo Police Department confirmed the incident is unfolding and they would continue to coordinate with U.S. Border Patrol today. “We consider this an act of war,†said one police officer on the ground near the scene. There is a news blackout of this incident at this time and the sources inside Laredo PD spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Word broke late last night that Laredo police have requested help from the federal government regarding the incursion by the Los Zetas. It appears that the ranch owners have escaped without incident but their ranches remain in the hands of the blood thirsty cartels.
Laredo Border Patrol is conducting aerial surveillance over the ranches to determine the best way to regain control of the U.S. ranches, according to the Laredo Police department.
The approximate location of the U.S. ranches are10 miles northwest of I-35 off Mines Road and Minerales Annex Road. Just off 1472 (Mines road) near Santa Isabel Creek south of the city of Laredo, Texas.
The Los Zetas drug cartel is an offshoot of the elite Mexican military trained in special ops. The mercenary organization is said to include members of corrupt Mexican Federales, politicians as well as drug traffickers. The group was once part of the Gulf cartel, but has since splintered and now directly competes with the Gulf cartel for premium drug smuggling routes in the Texas region.
The new leader of Los Zetas is Heriberto “El Lazca†Lazcano and is considered the most violent paramilitary group in Mexico by the DEA.
Recently the drug organization has kidnapped tourists, infiltrated local municipalities and continues to smuggle narcotics into a very hungry U.S. market.
The violence south of the border continues to spin out of control and has left Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on virtual lockdown with businesses refusing to open the doors. Last week a particularly violent attack by the Los Zetas included the use of grenades and resulted in a dozen deaths and 21 injuries.
The hostile takeover of the ranches has met with silence with local and national media; however sources say they could be waiting to report the stories once the ranches are back in U.S. control. This journalist questions if this was a Middle Eastern terrorist attack if the media would sit on their hands.
