Lindsay Lohan is no stranger to shocking and judging by stills and posters recently released for her next movie the troubled starlet intends to keep fanning the flames of controversy.

A new poster for Machete, directed by Robert Rodriguez, shows Lohan posing as a nun, in full habit, licking the barrel of a gun.

A still from the movie has also been released showing Lohan’s character, The Sister, pointing a handgun at the camera.

In the ultra violent action drama, out September 3, Lohan plays April Benz, an avenging socialite with a penchant for guns.

In one scene Lohan goes topless while swimming in a waterfall with Alicia Rachel Marek, who plays her mother.

The film centers on Machete, an ex-Federale, played by Danny Trejo, who launches a brutal rampage of revenge against his boss after being betrayed by the organization who hired him.

It also stars Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Robert DeNiro, Rose McGowan and Don Johnson.

Machete has already fallen foul of controversy after a trailer that was released with a special ‘Cinco De Mayo’ message inviting viewers into a violent on-screen race war caused outcries of racism.

Rodriguez has a history when it comes to making violent movies, past projects have included the gory vampire movie, From Dusk Till Dawn and the 2007 hit Grindhouse.

And Lohan has a history when it comes to posing with guns. The actress posed for a series of controversial pictures recently for The Dirty Side Of Glamor, a book by celebrity photographer Tyler Shields.

In one of the pictures Lohan poses with a gun to her mouth and in another she plays dead wearing just her underwear and covered in fake blood.

Meantime, Rodriguez has defended Lohan, saying her problems and issues are no different from those of other young women.

‘Lindsay isn’t any different from any girl her age,’ he said. ‘She has the same problems that a lot of our daughters have, but she’s in the public eye all of the time.

‘I’ve seen them carry some other girls out of that same club and nobody gives a damn.
