Schwarzenegger Puts Most State Workers On Minimum Wage

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday officially ordered most state workers’ paychecks slashed to the federal minimum wage — $7.25 per hour — now that California has entered a new budget year without a spending plan.

State Controller John Chiang, who issues the paychecks, has said he would not obey the order.

Debbie Endsley, state Department of Personnel Administration director, said in a letter to Chiang on Thursday that he “has no legal authority to pay state employee wages” above the federal minimum wage when there’s no budget in place.

Under the order, state employees’ pay would be reduced as of July 1, although most workers’ checks are not issued until the end of the month. Once a budget is signed, state employees would receive full back pay.

The Schwarzenegger administration last ordered Chiang, a Democrat, to cut workers’ wages in 2008. Chiang refused. Schwarzenegger took him to court and won. An appeals court heard the case last month and has yet to rule.

The instructions from Endsley on Thursday exempted more than 37,000 state workers who recently reached tentative contract agreements with the administration after being offered immunity from such wage cuts.

    The idea that the rest of the country can be put out of work and the rolls of civil service (gubmint) employees can keep growing is as ridiculous as their leader who epitomizes ridiculous. Soon ‘gubmint’ workers will be unemployed as well. Go ahead, vote for that shithead again.

    ONLY in California do we give welfare for chips and tits. Only in CA. I’m leaving at the end of the summer and I cannot wait to be around more normal people.

    I’m thrilled that the state parasites are making minimum wage. Thrilled. Serves them right. These are the same arrogant pricks who give you a hard time at the DMV, EDD, Franchise Tax Board or other agencies.

    Many times they don’t answer the phone, OR they shuffle you all over the place to get you off the phone and hoping you’ll be so digusted you’ll just hang up and give up, which is what they want.

    These little potted plant cretans need to get a taste of what it’s like to be unemployed, underemployed or exhausted your unemployment benefits. They need to feel the pain the rest of us have, losing our homes, our cars, our savings, etc.

    These same little state workers have NO problem with giving an illegal alien mom with her anchor baby food stamps, WIC and other shit, yet will turn away a single white female like me who could use the help.

    I hate most of these little pricks. Revenge is a dish best served cold. And 7.25 an hour is very cold.

      Annie, We’ve lived in CA for most of our adult life and have watched its decline. Ca’s bankruptcy is just around the corner & the giveaway politicians & sanctuary mentality are the cause. Ca once was a state of great opportunity until the importation of legal & illegal alien labor became acceptable — US/Ca citizens were put in the back of the bus!

      You make some good points — Ca has a lot of heavy lifting to do make it the Golden State that it used to be! As other replies have mentioned it will take a strong leader like Ronald Reagan and yet things have changed so much Ca’s outcome will be very cloudy. You will prosper – find a well managed state & remember don’t vote for Dems in November!

    California’s going down folks..there’ isn’t a Repuk or Demoncrap governor on earth that can save it..the libs have had control of both houses for way back to when Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown and friends got their hot lil majority hands on the state Ronnie Reagan left them..oh by the way Reagan turned the state around after Jerry’s father Edmund G and friends tossed him a piece of shit…California will be our Greece..watch :evil:
