Here in Florida, if you use Unemployment as a means of income instead of searching for a job is completely foolish- since it maxes out at $275 a week.
I have been out of work for almost 1 yr – the line of work I use to do as a Mechanical Designer/Estimator is pretty much emliminated.
I have put out over 700 Resumes, 30 Applications and 20 Visual Resumes and have not yet had an interview. I have put in at walmart for a cashier/deli clerk/night stock and have put in at every local fast food place for any position.
I have spoken to HR Reps – for professional jobs I am competing against 200-300 people per job. For No skill employment the numbers are much higher and people with better credentials and qualifications then myself are getting those basic jobs just to be able to work.
The truth is , that the situation out there is VERY bad – much worse than anyone really wants to accept. No one ever talks about the enormous amount of people who have either finished their 99 weeks or those that worked under the table that are not able to collect Unemployment. this doesn’t even count all of the Part time jobs that have been lost as well.
