At Least Two Killed In Islamist Attack On Chechnya Parliament, Hostages Seized

The parliament in the restive Russian republic of Chechnya has come under attack, Russian news agencies report.

At least three guards were reported to have been killed at the building in the capital, Grozny.

Local news agencies report shooting taking place in or near the parliament, with one suggesting a suicide bomber had attacked the building.

Other reports say hostages were taken, but Russian news agencies now report all the militants have been killed.

According to some sources the shooting broke out around the office of the parliament speaker, but the speaker is thought to be alive and inside the building.

Russia’s Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev is visiting Chechnya and is thought to be in an emergency meeting with the Moscow-backed President, Ramzan Kadyrov.

The Kremlin is struggling to contain a growing Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus, a strip of poor, ethnically mixed provinces along Russia’s southern border.

The Kremlin had declared victory in its battle with Chechen separatists, but analysts say continuing shootings and bombings over recent months show Moscow has failed to stamp out the insurgency.

    well, the other week there was a split between the Islamists and the Pro-Independence factions, the latter accusing the Islamic jaamat of hijacking the idea of independence with their Caucasus Imarate idea, as well as having some double agents in their ranks of foreign fighers. some of them are apparently linked with the FSB, and some with Saudi and other middle eastern secret police units that in the end had a link to the FSB. in one instance, there was a group that was sent to fight in Chechya, but in reality they spent there only one month, hiding in the mountains, but upon returning to their homecountries they became reveared figures in their communities and islamic militant factions. in the end they became agents of influence of various governmetal agencies within the local terrorists groups and organisations. most of them continued their activities with HAMAS ans Hezballah.
    Givel all this, the chechens pro-independence insurgency decided to cut them off, and this attack on governmental complex was to be seen as operation of “honor” in order to appeal to independence-minded population to resist the russians without jihadi ideology, but with straight up guerilla warfare.
    thee is so much more to this dirty little war that it all fits into the paradigme of controlled chaos by russians. i mean they already killed about 300,000 chechens, from their total of 1 million. this is genocide, and the perpetuation of the war is in the russian interests.
