Taliban Overrun District In Eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) – The Taliban overran a district in eastern Afghanistan, occupying government buildings and capturing police officers after an intense gunfight, an Afghan police chief and Taliban spokesman said Monday.

Government offices in Ghazni province’s Khogyani district were taken over, said district police chief Mohammad Yasin, who was away during the overnight attack. He did not have any information on casualties.

“No one (from the government) is in the district headquarters,” he said.

All the police guarding the district headquarters were killed or captured, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said.

“Right now we control the district,” he added, saying their weapons and vehicles had been seized as well.

In recent months, Ghazni has become one of the most unstable provinces in Afghanistan. Insecurity around the country shot up after NATO and Afghan troops began pushing into the Taliban heartland of the south in July.

Parliamentary elections held in September did not take place in most of Ghazni because of the insurgent threat.

Afghanistan has more than 350 districts. Around 10 are under direct Taliban control but they have a presence in many more.

    I was listening to a lady who grew up in Iraq, she has written several books on Terrorist.
    She said the Only thing these people truely understand is Power, and it has been that way for Centuries. I wonder why we dont listen to people like her and just use a Tacticle Nuke… Let these Diaperheads know we have the power and we WILL use it.

    Being right around that area I’ll tell you why this happened. 1. The area is run by I.S.A.F (I suck at fighting) namely poles who dont do shit except eat shit fuck and sleep. No patrolling there AT ALL! 2. Out of the 100k or so US troops here about ten percent are actually fighting leaving the rest as war tourists just here for a combat deployment patch and positive NCOer and OER bullet points. 3. Lastly, the new peace with fucking warlords program is in full swing, appeasing warlords so OBAMBI can keep our body count low and avoid headlines. Each day I struggle to figure out what the fuck Im doin here besides minding the store while the ROE prohibits any real combat.

    Meanwhile one of my buddies lost part of an arm…one whole leg, another half a leg, his balls and ass..due to a mine probably purchased by the ISI with YOUR fuckin tax dollars. As per the other comment nukes are too good for these fucks….how bout just releasing the ROE and drop a shitload more JDAMS…its the ugly truth folks we are not here to win…just sittin around waiting for the right time for OB to gain political points for saying we won and leave!

      JDAMS are nice…but I have always liked the B-52 strikes. Putting a 12 pack up with dumb bombs makes for greater terror…because the people on the ground just don’t know where they will hit.

      Nothing spells FEAR! like carpet bombing.
