well lets see, pay for cable, have money go to liberal views and ideas we don’t support, hhmm, sounds like what is still happening to the print media, now starting to effect cable?

  • DC

THe reason/s people are leaving cable:

    High cost….cable keeps raising their prices….Why, I don’t know!

Low quality….with the exception of available digital channels for additional subscriber fees, Cable is the only media left that uses analog technology….NTSC video, pumped over an RF channel, with lousy signal-to-noise ratio.

And as far as channels….satellite has the same “Mandatory” channel lineup and packages the subscriber HAS TO TAKE regardless!

So, even tho one is stuck with a predetermined set of crappy channels they may never watch, the video is a quantum leap over analog cable and the cost is reasonable and seldom goes up.

    Oh contrare DC.

    Cable is entertainment.
Entertainment is by nature a luxery.

Everyone else stop reading unless you actually want an understanding of your cable bill and the fact that as an industry we are hireing not fireing Americans.

Without saying the company I work for.
I think it is pretty normal in the cable world.

    is all digital.

constantly pushing more HD on to our everyday channels at no extra cost.
and constantly trying to improve our call times for customer service.

the cost increases for us have been handed to us by ABC/Disney to the tune of 10 to 20 percent a year for the last 10 or so years
They have us by the scrotum because the number 1 thing people watch is ESPN(a great product) so they package it to us at a premium then you get it packaged because they won’t alow it any other way.

add on inflation(yes your government printing more money.)

    So there you go.

My company gets service to po dunk country towns across the U.S. that (have a superior product to lets say San Francisco or DC) would have never gotten crap except for the money we invested locally.

In this down turn we have done no fireing!

Let me say again…WE HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY HIREING.(why? because the entertainment at home is way more cost effective than anything else)

Again we have grown jobs without government interference or handouts our unions.

We wire schools and small local governments for free so you all can sit back and bitch how terrible we are.

Dish has got an ok product. however they can’t move data both ways well, and they are not as weather proof as cable. little things like wind, rain and snow that happens in the real world.

    So do what you will.

We don’t sell iron lungs…. we sell a luxery.

    .

No one is arguing that it’s NOT a luxury, but everywhere I have ever lived….big city or little berg, the cable service has been dog-shit!
the last time I had cable, I suffered thru constant outages, noisy cross-channel interference, lousy field service from the company’s know-nothing techs, and accusatorial attitudes from the staff.
I’m on, and have been on Dish for the last 5 years with not one, (except for the occasional thunderstorm that gets between my natenna and the satellite) single outtage due to any of the things you mentioned above.

Yea….maybe it’s just my opinion, but yours is just an opinion too.

      Yup

Personally I gave up cable T.V. and satellite a year and a half ago and have been enjoying Netflix streaming ever since.

Now that ESPN is available on the XBOX platform I really don’t see any reason to go back.

HD over the internet rocks and it is available live or when I want it through on demand and all for low one time costs per year or month (internet service/xbox gold/neflix fee).

Personally, it is far more entertainment than I ever received from the other services, but to each their own.

I’m sure though that the powers that be will ruin it somehow.

Have had Dish Network for 13 years. Would NEVER pay for cable again.

Cable is a luxury.. no one can dispute that fact. More and more people are cutting expenses. many families have lost their jobs or had to take pay cuts and are therefore cutting expenses. Even those families who are still employed are cutting their budgets preparing for the inflation we are sure to see in the coming months.

Also people have woken in this nation. Priorities have changed.. family is once again becoming the priority it should be. People are turning off the tv and spending time helping their children with homework, sitting down at the family dinner.. talking to each other. Being families!

Yeah, ain’t that an original idea. Woot!

My kids did not have TV until middle school.. all read at a college level by 5th grade. ( except the youngest who’s disabilities mean he will never ready beyond a 6th grade level) we also have dinner at the table as a family every single night.. my kids friends BEG to come to dinner and as good as I know my cooking is I know its because those kids want the boundaries and family bond we have in this house. It is sad to me how many people do not have families but just groups of people who live in the same house. I know “parents” who can tell you who was on the last 4 seasons of american idol but don’t know who their kids teachers are.

What’s Cable? I got rid of my TV set five years ago, did I miss something?

We kept our cable to watch 24 but when they got a “new” liberal writer who had Jack go to Africa to built houses for the poor because of his guilt over using torture…THAT

    was

    the

    end… :gun:

certain providers may be losing customers – others might be gaining, however people are flocking to entertainment in general, and the stats prove this – what the medium is doesn’t matter. For some reason, people are willing to splurge on entertainment luxuries: movies, video games, and such. (probably to escape from the miserable world that Obama has created for us)
