I believe Obama is simply trying to be honest
with what he’s being dealt with. The words he used
to explain the situation at hand was an analogy and
that’s it. To read more into what he said really
misdirects the focus at hand. The intense situation
of negotiations over who should get tax cuts and
who will finance it is significant and dangerous
because, it will ultimately effect their standard
living to the point of having less. I understand
nobody wants to give up what they have but at what
cost? Should we be taking more from a struggling
family trying to make ends meet week to week? What
about a struggling student working two jobs
just to educate themselves? Is that what it’s
come down to? Taking more from folks that have
already next to nothing and less from folks that
have an abundance of wealth? Maybe one possible
solution is bring back writing off interest rates
on credit cards many folks could actually benefit
from this. This would be a small solution but at
least we would be heading in the right direction.
We talk about a flat tax of 18% give or take.
The only problem is to who would it benefit more
to? The higher earners are currently around 35%
and folks i am talking like millions of dollars
not bad from what i see here. The average earner
okay is like 25% looking like 30,000 to 70,000
gross income. I want you to understand 18% which
would be a 7% reduction about $2,600 savings to
the average wage earner. Now lets look at 35%
a 17% reduction and since we are looking in that
tax bracket that savings would be anywhere from
$250,000 to millions literally! Why not simply
narrow the class gap by giving two flat taxes.
from lowest to medium wage earners 10% and 28%
to the highest wage earners. You see a 7% reduction
on a $1,000,000 is a savings of $70,000 not bad.
The tax overhaul would be a good start for all
not just the few if we can work together on
solutions and stop blaming each other who is at
    fault. Thanks C.S.

“…who should get tax cuts and who will finance it…”

    Chuck,
We’re not talking about who gets a tax cut, we’re talking about the Dems raising our taxes…and nobody has to “finance it”…Remember, we earned our money, it’s ours. The gov’ment thinks they should have more of it!

You make a good point about Dems raising our taxes and i do agree it is our money we earned it. I will add also that the FED needs to reduce the size of government and stop spending irresponsibly. I am also against more taxes. At this point and time with the current situation with the economy in a slump our government should be looking on how to reduce taxes for everyone. If government is serious about encouraging business to grow and create jobs they have to be more creative with reducing taxes all across the board. Final case in point your absolutely right the gov thinks they should have more of our money. And it’s also ridiculous the rich
want an extension under the bush tax plan and
got it! i think that’s wrong. It really just shows how selfish they are and no regard for anyone else like the bailout wasn’t enough. Now enough is
enough. If your not the top 1% your paying for it! One why or another we are all going to pay for this. The gov does not give money away for free! It’s the average American that’s going to pay that is
the big picture here. That’s not the American way is it? Thanks for your comment Chuck

    Envy is the Liberal vehicle.

Class Warfare is how it manifests itself.

A flat tax would mean equal burden to match our equal rights… therefore the progressives will never do it.

My 15% is way less than say Bill Gates 15% however both of us being U.S. would have equal tax burden.

    ah the American Dream.
